Hey guys, I want to upgrade from my shit cpu to something a little better. I have an athlon x4 750k, and I was looking at the 7870k thinking the cpu component might be better, and I wouldn't have to upgrade my mobo considering its the same socket. I'm buying a new laptop, my budget is somewhat short, but i ready to spend if the price will worth that.

and i close up on pic related options options.

all of theme Lenovo because of the price.

So, in pic related are my options.

I plan to run old games (mass effect, DAO, GTA 4 etc) on theme, and new games on low settings if possible.

So, how big is the difference between the 411$ model and the rest of theme? is it worth the price bump?

And what model will you recommend?
>>
>>51791804

If you want to play videogames forget about the ones without dedicated graphics. Even then don't expect to get great framerates with that mobile Radeon thing.

I'd pick the $767 because you probably don't NEED an i7.
>>
>>51791804
>how big is the difference between the 411$ model and the rest of theme?

Half the RAM, no dedicated graphics, considerably worse CPU, won't let you do much data hoarding
>>
>>51791804
>>51791913

I bought the 411 model month ago, played the ME series, if you are ready to compromise with graphics, its a decent cheap choice.

Plus i play eve online on almost max settings, can't complain.

Don't know about the other models.

After 5 years of use I decided to upgrade my gpu and psu. Then I noticed that my cpu was overheating fairly fast and made the mistake of cleaning the heatsink and cpu without knowing about thermal paste and its uses, so now I gotta get some thermal paste because the cpu gets at the temperature in the pic while idle.

Is thermal paste something I can buy the cheapest I can find or is it something I should be careful with and buy from good brands? What things I should look out for when buying one?
Also, would you recommend me to replace the stock cpu cooler while I'm at it? Any recommendations on cheap ones?

Should I get the Asus Xonar DSX soundcard if my onboard's audio mic input is beyond fucked? I produces noise and plugging the mic into front input or jack extenders doesnt work either. Cheap usb soundcard don't change much. The mic itself works flawlessly. I've tested the mic itself on the new laptop with Realtek audio card and it worked without producing noise.

Skylake (i 6xxx) has already been released, and it doesn't work with DDR3. DX12 is coming but it's gonna be Windows 10 exclusive, I think

Skylake CPUs are as cheap as €130 for an i3 to 400+ for an unlocked i7

Bro Intel doesn't make graphics cards. Unless you're planning to play serious vidya on Intel integrated graphics, in which case lmao.

I checked the wiki, it lists avast, tells you not to install it, then lists 3 others that cost money and says they don't offer real time protection in the free version.

Do you even need antivirus stuff these days anyway? I'm not exactly torrenting totally_not_a_virus.exe these days.

> You are given a serial implementation of a hash table (sources are posted on _) and are asked to change the hash table into a concurrent (thread-safe) object using several techniques. The hash table is organized as a set of hash chains. Each key is mapped to a hash chain by means of a hash code. The number of hash chains is fixed to 15, so the hash codes are mapped to the range 0..14 to select one of the hash chains using direct array access. Each hash chain holds multiple key/value pairs, which are organized in a linked list. The linked list is sorted by the value of the key.

> Question 1. Lock-based synchronization
Implement a thread-safe version of the hash table using a coarse-grain critical section that allows only one access to the hash table at a time.

--hwdec=<api>
Specify the hardware video decoding API that should be used if possible. Whether hardware decoding is actually done depends on the video codec. If hardware decoding is not possible, mpv will fall back on software decoding.

<api> can be one of the following:

no always use software decoding (default)

auto see below

vdpau requires --vo=vdpau or --vo=opengl (Linux only)

vaapi requires --vo=opengl or --vo=vaapi (Linux with Intel GPUs only)

vaapi-copy
copies video back into system RAM (Linux with Intel GPUs only)

vda requires --vo=opengl (OS X only)

auto tries to automatically enable hardware decoding using the first available method. This still depends what VO you are using. For example, if you are not using --vo=vdpau, vdpau decoding will never be enabled. Also note that if the first
found method doesn't actually work, it will always fall back to software decoding, instead of trying the next method.

The vaapi-copy function allows you to use vaapi with any VO. Because this copies the decoded video back to system RAM, it's quite inefficient.

NOTE:
When using this switch, hardware decoding is still only done for some codecs. See --hwdec-codecs to enable hardware decoding for more codecs.

What do you use on your computer the most?

Imo a good mouse that has exactly the # of buttons you need and fits comfortably in your hand is a better investment because the mouse is constantly being used. Dpi matters for shooting games but a "gaming" mouse sacrifices build quality for buttons and sensor qualities, really only necessary for mmos.
If you're getting RSI from typing, get an ergo keyboard.
