Arredondo, but I do not recommend them for srs bsns, use 17 round factory instead. Pretty much for range funs only, the retention bracket is plastic and the extendos can pop off if dropped while loaded, bukakkeing your rounds everywhere. Most embarassing. Also when Arredondo says "adds 5 or 6" they mean "adds 4 with gorilla strength, or 5 if you want to deform your springs." Taylor makes excellent aluminum clip extenders, but they're bulky, ugly and twice as expensive.

If Arredondo changed their retention plate to aluminum or used an unbreakable system like Taylor they'd be fantastic. They'd probably also be just as expensive.

I'm worried there's something wrong with my Model M. I have it attached via a PS/2 to USB cable, and for some reason it's causing my PC to lock up repeatedly when typing, eventually spitting out a line of gibberish.

Could this be the Model M or is it more likely a problem with the adapter? I unfortunately don't have any other PS/2 peripherals to test the adapter with, and don't have a PS/2 port to test the Model M with.

Proper IBM Model M keyboards go for anywhere from $20 to $60 USD, usually. I'm pretty sure all of the IBM ones use the AT connector, the PS/2 model was manufactured by Lexmark, and a decent used one should run you no more than $40 since they're less desirable than the IBM models.

Model M clones can have wildly varying prices, with modern Unicomps going for around $80. I'd stay away from anything that isn't a proper Model M or a Unicomp.

No, the proper IBM ones have interchangeable cables. You can buy an AT Model M and replace the AT cable with a PS/2 one easily. The Lexmark ones have fixed cables and mostly only came as PS/2.

Yeah, newer-production RGB. Heard there were QC issues with the red-lit and early RGB ones.

There's an anon with a K70 RGB whose LEDs are failing, but allegedly they're different keyboards internally. Saw a couple reviews of the K65 before I got it that seemed to indicate it was a problem with the tenkeyless models too, but mine is golden.
I don't run an animated colorscheme either, which probably helps.

"gaymen" bullshit and ricer beacons aside, it's a really good keyboard.
Now if only the software could take data from a game (tire temp in a racing sim?) and display it in the lighting as something useful, it might actually be worth the price.

I'm going to put my foot down on getting a CODE with green switches because I can't find any other board with them that is simple.

Convince me why I should/shouldn't do it. Also fullsize or TKL?
>>
>>51771154
>Aren't the colors basically just difference feels and response?
Yep. Not so much the response bit though, just a difference in how they feel and sound. You should get a switch tester and figure out which one you like the most from that.

Reds take a while to get used to, as they offer no tactile feedback and feel weird as hell to type on at first. I like my reds, though.
>>
>>51771154
I'm fairly sure browns are the beginner's go to switch. they have the tactile bump, so you know when it actuates, but they don't have the seperate block so it's not super loud clicks

reds are just flat all the way down, so because of that they have a faster response (so better for competitive twitch games like FPS), but it takes longer to get used to where it actuates so you don't slam down the keys until they bottom out, whereas with browns & blues (and their heavier/lighter variants) you can actually feel where the button gets pressed

It's really recommended to test switches before you buy a keyboard.

I think red has the most popularity along with blue, blues are known for CLICKCLACKCLICKCLACK CLACK CLICK CLICK CLICK
reds are known because PRO GAMER LEET SUPER HIGH SKILLS

I think this is also why so many people are disappointed with the feel of their keyboard when they get reds & they don't do the research
But, if you want a linear switch that doesn't get lighter or heavier or gives any notification, reds/blacks are the ones for you.

Reds are also the lightest switches amongst the popular ones IIRC

yeah yeah yeah

>it'll fail in a month!
>just give it three months!
>wait until the warranty runs out, then you'll be sorry!

I will continue to update /g/ on the status of my shitboard until it actually fails in some way. Generally, I don't consider a keyboard to have failed until an alpha key becomes unreliable, at which point I just replace it instead of bothering with warranty claims. A keyboard is like a clutch in your car -- You can spend a lot of money and get a really good one that makes every stroke feel like sex, but it's still a consumable item that degrades with use.
>>
>>51771257
I like blues for gaming because the microswitch click immediately conjures up the feeling of an arcade machine's buttons.

Interestingly and off-topic I took the dome light out of my car and found its switches were manufactured by Alps and could be easily removed from the assembly and replaced. Never seen anything like that on such a trivial piece of equipment.

Unfortunately they are not.

I haven't had any problems with the Shine 4's cable routing so far. I'm not sure why they didn't just make it go straight, but this doesn't seem a whole lot less durable.

Aside from which, the mini-usb port isn't directly attached to the PCB (found this out when I opened it to swap the shift key for a lighter switch), so if it should actually break out of the housing, repairing it should be a rather simple matter.

Does amazon do sales on random small name mechanical keyboards (like http://www.amazon.com/Azio-Backlit-Mechanical-Keyboard-MGK1-K/dp/B010M53SLU ) during christmas or so?

I'm not sure if I should just get it or wait for a better price

At what point would you guys be willing to sacrifice switches for a deal?

I'm looking around to find the best deal on an XT and I found a local shop that has a single model of the XT with blue caps and it's around 30€ cheaper than other sites I can find. I bought a KBP V60 Mini – Matias Quiet Click.
I dont really know why i got it, but i can type pretty good and it saves ALOT of desk space.

I have some questions for anybody who might have this model.

1. Where is the software for this product? I could not find it on kbp website, but found it on some firmware on a facebook post by somebody.

2. what are the switches on the back of the keyboard?

3. What does the light do other than light up. this model has only one led and thats beside the shift key. it lights up when i press shift entell
>>
>>51776728
1. What do you need software for? I have this same board and never wanted to use it for anything. I don't think there is any.

2. They change the layout a bit (look for the manual), like FN on Caps an stuff.

3. If the light besides Shift is on, your shift, ctrl, win and fn key become cursor keys. Pretty nice imo.
>>
>>51776728
you bought a 60% keyboard, with matias switches nonetheless, and you have no idea about how to use it?

I cannot help but tell you that this is funny. That's some serious niche shit (shit not in a bad sense) that you got yourself there. Is this your first mech?

what do you guys think about putting LED's on this keyboard? im going to try and do that. if you could recommend some resources/links that would be helpful
>>
>>51778216
I can tell just how new you are to this.

Here are multiple reasons why this will not work with almost 100% certainty:

1. The PCB does most likely not accommodate for LEDs
2. Matias switches most certainly don't accommodate for LEDs (they are a continuation of the ALPS switch, which doesn't accommodate for LEDs. I wouldn't know how you'd get an LED in to one of those without redesigning half the switch)
3. You'll somehow have to get the LEDs out of your microsoft keyboard. It doesn't really matter what type of LED is in there since the classic LED or SMD LEDs would work, but just getting them out in the first place could be difficult depending on how the board is constructed.
4. You'll probably also have to solder in resistors so that the LEDs don't get blown the fuck out the moment you plug your keyboard in. I highly doubt that the PCB accommodates for these too.

Just because there are some indicator LEDs on the board does not mean that the whole keyboard is designed to fit LEDs. You can go ahead and try though, let us know in case you succeed.

What's the difference between a single layer PCB and a dual layer PCB in a keyboard?
>>
>>51778743
A dual layer PCB is more durable since even if a solder joint breaks on one part of the PCB (or some other part of the PCB goes dandy) there's still a second layer which still be perfectly fine.

Though you'll either need a keyboard that has some horrible soldering work or a really brutal pair of hands to make some part of your PCB break in the first place.

i understand
1. i think the pcb does accommodate for LED's, kbp v60 does kbp v60 matias quiet click should too :S
2. " http://deskthority.net/wiki/Matias_switch " Matias switches are based heavily on the simplified Alps design. The shell is completely transparent, allowing for LEDs to be mounted directly underneath the switch. Alps-type switches with tactile and click leaves do not have room for an integrated LED, and having the switch lit from below is Matias's alternative to using linear switches with integrated LEDs for lock keys."

3. I have found a tutorial on how to do that

4. Yeah thats going to be the hard part, if you could send me some resources/links that would be helpful

Anyways thanks for your help, i'm a complete noob please forgive me for any mistakes. Im currently gathering links about how to do this, will archive this thread as well.

Super satisfied with it, especially for the price. Coming from an old Dell rubber dome keyboard (served me well, but I wanted something smaller and mechanical), the difference is huge. I am to understand that the switches are not Cherry MX Blues but some ripoff, but they feel great.

The keycaps are not good, I dislike the text and they feel kinda weird, but I'll be replacing them soon. Suggestions for a good set of black keycaps w/ non-goofy lettering?

Would absolutely recommend the board, though.

Talking about the ducky zero, is it actually remotely as well made as other ducky boards? I'm afraid to get one because I think they might have compromised too much to make a budget board. People are saying it's higher quality than the cmstorm quickfire lineup, but I'm not sure if they just say that because of the ducky brand name

Well, good luck to you in that case. I am still somewhat doubtful about using the LEDs from your other keyboard, but getting them out should probably be a relatively simple matter of desoldering.

Other than that, you can purchase various LEDs here (http://www.gonskeyboardworks.com/) in case it doesn't work out with the LEDs from your old keyboard.

Do report back if it works, now I'm curious.

How do you like the HHKB?

How do you deal with having the function keys only on the FN layer?

I use the FN keys a lot and I'm torn between a realforce TKL and a HHKB. The realforce is far more functional, but the HHKB layout seems really comfy and is just pure sex in terms of aesthetics. I'd go for the HHKB instantly if it weren't for the FN keys being on a function layer.

Alright, reposting in the correct thread:
Sup /g/, I'm in the market for a new keyboard.
I don't *really* need a new one, but my old Microsoft wired 600 has the bad habit of randomly freezing in DIRT Rally, and it used to freeze even out of game some time ago (it just stopped doing that, weird)

Since its a pain in the butt when it happens, and I wouldn't mind a better keyboard, I was thinking about spending some money.

Problem is, Logical Increments is woefully outdated, and all guides I find don't yield much when it comes to european keyboards.

So, to the point:
No microsoft, Italian layout is a plus but anything QWERTY goes, mechanical is not a necessity but if it is, it needs to be as silent as a rubber dome.

99% of intensive use will be gaming. I like my buttons to be light. Extra macro/bindable keys are very welcome, backlighting is okay too.

So far I found the Zowie Celeritas... but it costs like 150€ here. So, in that pricerange I got a big issue: The Logitech G910 Orion Spark offers much more than any competitor.

- Razer BlackWidow Chroma: too expensive, and the non-chroma version is just too expensive compared to the features of the G910
- Same goes for the Deathstalker, I'd be buying a rubber dome with cheap backlighting and no extra features for nearly the price of a G910...
- Zowie Celeritas would be cool but again, less features than the G910, same price, and I also cannot find it in a good layout. (the only one without added shipping price on amazon is fucking french)
- Corsair K70, same price as the G910, less features
- Corsair K95 gets my dick really hard but it's way out of budget

So... any help? Any opinions on the Logitech G910? Because it's the main deal breaker here: I could get any other keyboard, but the Logitech G910 has full RGB and a dickload of features for a fraction of the price.
The other option is going "fuck everything" and dumping 200€+ on a Corsair K95. Would that be a good idea? Or just insane?
>>
>>51787612
oh I forgot: I NEED A NUMPAD. Can't be tenkeyless, can't be mixed with the arrow keys. Bigger the better. (I play a lot of simulators)
>>
>>51787612
have a look at CMStorm Quickfire XT, Ducky Zero, Azio MGK, Rosewill RK9000 (though I assume you're from europe so I doubt you'll find this one) for some full sized budget keyboards
brown, red or black cherry like switches
(don't know silent alp switches)

look on local gaming or tech forums to find people discussing sites that sell mechanical keyboards with italian layouts
