An average workday has around 6 to 8 planned contacts in the 12 hours. I do the math to map out the satellite's trajectory. I then rotate the antenna towards where the satellites will show up. The target is in sight for about 5 minutes so I have to upload commands, download the needed information and pull diagnostic files. I'm in Canada so our location on the globe makes us an excellent last resort for our allies in other countries who missed their target window. They call me up and I connect to their American, French, German, Russian or whatever satellites to do what they needed done.
The job's a lot of fun and I see many strange and mysterious things I can't talk to anyone about which required me to get a level 3 military security clearance which came with invasive background checks.
