I bought it years ago. £80 bongbux, which translates to about $90. (not because of exchange rates, but because of increased costs)

I have an old Kindle touch
screen is shit for today e-readers but storage has never been a problem to me, unless you want to store more than 200000 books at a time you are going to be good with 4 gb
only downside is you can't read epubs unless you jailbreak it (wich I did, just for the custom screensavers, but all my books are mobis)

The display Technology used on E-Readers is vastly different than the ones used on Smartphones.

Due to the nature of the screen on E-Readers, it literally feels like it being the real thing (Or as real as it can get), and since it works in such an abstract way, the battery life can last much longer which is great for people who like to read a lot.

Although I agree, you can do this on your smartphone but it's not recommended unless you're a casual reader. It's like a car for racing, you can use any old car for racing, that's true, but people who want to specialize in racing get cars that are meant for racing and not for something else.
>>
>>51665396
I agree and eReader are the old car whereas smartphones are the race cars
>>
i currently have a kobo mini, upgraded to the latest firmware (3.18), nightmode mod, multitouch mod, and am going to see if i can run this firmware next to debian ARM (which can run on the kobo devices)

great thing about kobo: you can replace the internal micro SD card for a bigger one. just make sure you backup the micro sd card, as it has the whole filesystem on it.

tl;dr: kobo is the way to go because you can change a lot of stuff, they'll open everything, and are nicely made both hardware and software.
>>
>>51665512
smartphones and ereaders serve 2 completely different purposes. i use my ereader to read, and the screen of a smartphone is both not nice for your eyes, and will make the device run out of battery way faster.

>>
>>51665567
>the screen of a smartphone is both not nice for your eyes
I use a Galaxy S3. OLED display with hardware color remapping (so you can turn off the blue channel and modify the red/green channels to preserve luminance information), and PWM disabled. Light on dark color scheme + 7200mAh extended battery means battery life is no problem. This is equally easy to read as ePaper but much more convenient because it's faster and smaller.
>>
>>51665644
What's so different about it? Can it hold battery life for three weeks?
>>
>>51665338
Not that guy but do you have downs? Lemme make some points here:
>"And no one needs to read for 24 hours straight."
What if I'm traveling and can't charge two devices in a timely manner? Obviously I'll charge my phone but with the E-reader I can go much longer without a charge, plus being able to use it in more places such as windows seats on trains/plane/ect where sun glare would make it difficult to see on a smart phone without turning up the brightness, then increasing my battery usage.

Plus unless you own a phablet then a shitty 4" screen will be shitty, would strain your eyes too in comparison to a larger screen. And commercial tablets, say 10" Android ones or iPads have the same battery usage and screen issues as a smart phone.

Also why the hell do you absolutely NEED color? Are you reading fucking childrens books? Upset that your favorite magic tree house novel won't have all the pretty pictures that you have on your iphone? Grow up faggot, most books don't have illustrations outside of MAYBE a map or timeline.

also

In the market for an e-reader as well.

Are they any good at reading textbook sized pdfs? Any irremovable DRM stuff?

The screens seem a bit small for non ebook stuff.
>>
>>51665964
It's not bait. It's you being a complete idiot who only reads Bella Thorne novella and pushes HURRR NOVELS HURRR!!!!! onto the rest of us
>>
>>51665989
Nah, textbook sized stuff is a little awkward on the small screens. Scrolling, zooming and moving the frame around doesn't work on e-ink.
As a general rule you should be reading things with about the same page size as the device- when it comes to PDFs.
If it's epub or whatever then it's just a long string maybe with some HTML elements and it's malleable.
PDFs with pagesizes much larger than the device screen just don't work. Well I mean you CAN zoom and scroll around but it's ass. It's not smooth at all.

If you really have to: Large screen.
>>
>>51666024
>Scrolling, zooming and moving the frame around doesn't work on e-ink.
Sure it does. It justWerks. You can even use a web browser with e-ink.

>>
>>51666114
Well it works, just it's not very smooth.
