It's actually a pretty good service, and you can keep using the stuff you download even after you're out of school. It's basically microsoft trying to get their foot in the door so people feel like buying their stuff later, so as long as you keep that in mind and are able to use either free or outdated tools once you graduate it's not a trap at all.
