First for AKG Masterrace
i mean, could we not design a dummy head with some software that both attempts to either hit some preset sound signatures, or neutral, and at the same time balance the level of the frequencies of the drivers? i mean, theres no way we could get perfect, but thats fine. literally everything is far from perfect in the audio world
how much better will my sound be when im coming from a logitech g350 and switch to a sennheiser 598 / DT 770

Of course you can, it's very easy to do it automatically. In the real world, you want to do this manually.
An example of an inverted response with EQ.

Hey again, /hpg/
Christmas is coming up soon, family is working with some system where a name is drawn for each person only gets one gift and only from that one person.
Basically I'm stuck having to give a wish list for shit around 25€. I don't really have an idea what else to ask for so I'm planning to ask for new earbuds to use on the go as my old ones broke.
I don't just want to say "earbuds" or they'll give me either in ears (with the rubber shit) which I hated before or just grab the nearest "DEEP BOOSTED EXTRA ENHANCED BASS" ones, which are like 90% of the ones I saw at my local electronics store
So I'm looking for good specific reccomendations to ask for, preferably a number of them so it's easier for them to find one of them.
I'm considering asking for the Apple EarPods as one of them, but apparently they don't sell them separately other than the mic/volume version

Hey /hpg/,

It was outdated and missing some IEMs, also some IEMs were mislabeled in various ways. now that I look though I don't think the old list is even in the wiki, just a link to joker's reviews, which while not bad are very subjective, with no included measurements and not sorted by price, and there is a lot of redundant stuff in there.

I really liked these, they were very comfortable but the cable wore out after 6 months near the jack (Caused by bending). I'd like to avoid that if possible.
I noticed today that a local electronics store are selling AKG K551 for $100. These were retailed for $329 back in 2012, about the same price as the current, and still popular, K550.
Should I go for it? I've been thinking about getting the K550. It seems that the only difference are the colors, jack, and the cable have a mic and buttons on it.
>>51636991

This.
My soundblaster z is miles better than my on board sound.
Any easy way to get dolby headphone to work with MPC-HC?
what's the storage limit of a rockbox sansa clip? 128gb?
So I just got my K240's in the mail like 30 minutes ago, and they're a bit odd. I can hear the individual instruments better overall because there's less bass presence than my M50's, but the sound itself seems a bit clouded overall.
Is this normal?
so how terrible are these?
>>51639265
>>51639392
the default of the Z has a crazy EQ on. are you turning that off and still notice a difference? theres also all kinds of gimmicky shit on by default. when i turn that off, my onboard sounds the same. but im not saying youre wrong; maybe i just happen to have a nice onboard soundcard
first of all, I have no idea about this stuff
So I bought senhheiser hd598 from amazon, what kind of amp should I get? I will use them on a Imac
So I just ordered some hd 598s. Is an amp necessary? If so, what kind would be best?
>>51639642
Oh shit someone just asked the same question as me
>>51639627
>>51639627
A lot of modern motherboards have onboard audio good enough for most users. Sound cards and everything else only really matter when you have good speakers not bullshit logitechs.
Just ordered a pair of Xaiomi piston II's
How'd I do?
>>51639568
"clouded" just means the treble is overall lower. you went to a much more neutral. when the treble is too high, it can start sounding metallic (kind of like how overly compressed music sounds). if it's too low, it sounds like what people refer to as the sennheiser veil.
anyway, someone else can correct me if im wrong, but yes i think the 240s have lower treble than the m50s, so it would explain what youre hearing. normal? yes. but do you like it is a question you have to answer yourself.
>>51639079
Thank you very much for your suggestions
>>51639627
My msi z97 mobo is supposed to have some top quality on board sound but it sounded really shitty like it was really flat and even with a bass booster activated the bass was pretty poor.
Should I get the fiio k1 for portable use with some 50Ω and 38Ω cans?
I've got two pairs just recently getting into headphones, HD598 and ATH-M50x, I want a small & cheap amp+dac as I can hear electrical noise from both my phone and PC, plus the HD598s are a little bit too quiet. These seem like a good option and are in my price range, what does /hpg/ think?

You don't need it.
>>51639843
...why not?
is the open design really important for gaming or is it a meme?
>>51639586
Für den Preis ok
>>51639959
it's not important but I think the larger soundstage and sense of space open headphones have enhance the experience, of FPS especially. and it does make it a bit easier to position and listen to audio cues vs something really narrow sounding. the idea that it's going to make you significantly better at csgo is a myth.

How is this possible, my old headset was pure telemarketer garbage and it had ZERO interference
I'm also getting suspicious ear pains even though it's not loud, just bought this and I'm pretty sure I fucked up, but I have a few questions.
1. Could this be happening because of poor grounding on my PC or on other cables?
2. Would using stuff like a ferrite core to deal away with the interference even work?
I tested using other stuff I have here and the same thing happens, white noise only though
I'm not even sure I'm posting in the right place.

I just got and tested out my 598se for almost a straight 18 hour session, first of all anyone that said they have no bass is just stupid bc they have plenty of bass, I had never used open headphones before and was amazed with the clarity in the mids abd highs especially, they sounded best with classical, acoustic, and rock music, the place that they shine the most in with movies and TV shows though, and they are crazy comfortable, super light design with huge ear cups and just the right amounts of padding and types of padding, I know it's my first open back headphones and I'm sure there are much better cans out there, but for $90 these were a bargain for sure, I might go ahead and buy these hifiman he 400i now that I'm starting to get obsessed with headphones, haha another way for me to blow money, but on a serious note I just don't understand why anyone would trash talk the 598se at a 90-100 dollar price range, also they came with two cables and I wasn't even expecting that

>>51641963
The driver design could cause a varying impedance through the frequency range. Or the drivers could just be heavier.
When using a mobile device, the voltage range is very limited. The current is what will ultimately dictate the volume you'll get with a mobile device. If the headphones you use with said device have a high impedance, the volume will be reduced. This is true of any audio system that cannot significantly increase its voltage.
Besides, amplifiers have lower output impedance than most mobile devices or computer outputs, which generally means the headphones will be getting a more accurate signal.
(you can increase dB SPL/V by decreasing resistance-- which means decreasing input impedance, which isn't going to happen for studio headphones because they need that high impedance to work well with the high powered equipment in studios).
>>51642791
>than most mobile devices or computer outputs, which generally means the headphones will be getting a more accurate signal.
Modern onboard solutions are like 2ohm output impedance dude.
Anyway the point was, using input impedance as a metric for whether a headphone needs a discrete amp or not is ridiculous.
a family i bought the hd 598's se. after using the grado sr80i's for many years , using the 598's is like dying and going to heaven. they sound amazing, comfy as fuck too. i was wondering if your guys could recommend me a good desktop amp?
>>51642826
>amp meme
listening with my Grados
>all that prestige
>>51642810
Like I said, you need to know what your source is capable of supplying to your phones. I took mobile stuff as probably the most common example these days. It's the input impedance of the phones coupled with the output capabilities of the source that determine whether or not you need an amp. Without knowing both, you can't say whether or not you need an amp. So no, taking into account input impedance is not ridiculous, you just don't know what you're talking about. Like I said dB SPL/V is a useless metric because it can be manipulated by changing the resistive characteristics of the phones, which can actually severely reduce audio quality to improve loudness.
>>51642877
>So no, taking into account input impedance is not ridiculous,
Stop changing the goalposts. I said using it as a sole metric is ridiculous because you can't base anything off of input impedance alone. dB SPL/V is a more important spec as variations in impedance only sway the power requirements so much from the dB SPL/V.

That isn't what you said. You're actually the one here moving goalposts. Impedance is 100% relevant to deciding what you need to drive headphones. dB SPL/V is merely a simpler way to determine expected volume levels without taking into account damping, which is fucking retarded.
Stop being fucking retarded. There are articles littering the internet about this subject. All you have to do is read them. There isn't any controversy over the idea that high impedance headphones need a powerful source. Like an amp.

I'd recommend extending your budget another ~$30 and buying a pair of MSR7s. Maybe the MDR-7506s if you can deal with the long as fuck wire. (Or solder a headphone jack)
If you're not bothered by looking like an autist in public, the Beyer DT770s or the Takstar Pro 80s are worth the look.

Yay or nay
AKG K550 or ATH M50x lads?

>without taking into account damping, which is fucking retarded
By damping logic though, high impedance headphones need a nice amplifier less, while low impedance headphone need it more.
But then, damping (back EMF) is not the problem you make it out to be.

You didnt comprehend any of that post did you?

I'm torn between these and the 990s. I want that superior soundstage of the 990s but I want the sexy bass of the 770s. I've also never tried open headphones so I'm not sure if I'll like them or not.

Why?
Someone make a new general
Looking at either a mackie cr4 or a jbl lsr305. Which one would be the better option to buy. I'm guessing the jbl lsr305 is going to sound a little better but reading about the build quality of it is kind of off putting.
This is off beat from the thread but does anyone recommend any sort of bluetooth headphone receiver or bluetooth headphones/earbuds? I find that the comfort of being able to walk around my room > the minor sound improvement of a wired connection.

Don't listen to that guy. Audio techinca's M series headphones are generally one of the more uncomfortable headphones on the market today. If you enjoy bloated bass and artificial highs and don't give a shit about mids or your skull then i'd recommend them. K550 is a better headphone in every regards. The only major problem it has going for it is that it doesn't seal properly on some peoples heads.
Getting better earpads for the M50/M50x changes the sound quality of them too much and just makes them sound awful

v6
or do you mean IEMs?
fidelio s2 if you don'r care about isolation that much, se215 if you do, though its more bass-heavy.

because they like colored, usually v-shaped shit like m50 and are too pleb to do any research or gain an understanding of measurements and signatures. when they get the 598 they're shocked by the lack of coloration in the bass and highs especially. they literally expect every higher priced "good" headphone to sound exactly like their current pair but "better".
>>51646061
what the fuck does the build quality matter are you going to be throwing them around or are you going to leave them once you've placed them
>>51646436
they expect the hd598 to sound good and they're thoroughly disappointing when they find out it's a meme
sennheiser nobass veil mudsimulators, not even once.
>>51642981
people who own them love them, people who don't shitpost them. that should tell you enough. sig is like a mix of bassy/dark and mild v-shape. bass hump, relatively even mids, slight rolling off into the highs but a bit spiky around 5k and 8k, which gives it that extra "sparkle". I don't find them fatiguing at all and I'm pretty sensitive to that, but I do eq to lessen the bass hump and those spikes a bit. something like a 598 or 600 wins out in the mids department by a bit but otherwise yes they do handle everything very well. if you want something closer to neutral, more polite sounding though, get something like hd600, ma900, he400s. X2 is for people who want open and bass.

lsr305 easy, they're in another league. the mackie isn't bad but it's in the same league as rokit, more colored, less detailed, not a true studio monitor. so unless the price difference is huge get the JBL.
