Do some research. They are literally one of the worst SSDs you can buy.

Funny because I have one of these and have a Samsung evo on the way tomorrow to replace it.

Yes.
For the same price you can get something that haves twice its perfomance and around 10 times its lifetime.
Sandisk SSD Plus.
Few bucks more? Sandisk SSD Ultra ll.
>>
kingston is literally the worst ssd brand you can get. ocz is even better

but if you can only afford a 128gb you need to keep saving your allowance
>>
I cannot recommend any budget SSD other than the Crucial BX100
>>

BX100, Sandisk Plus/Ultra ll and 850 Evo are the only options when it comes to budget SSD.
>>
>>51623663
As a dedicated work space and steam game drive, is it worth the extra money for a 1tb pro vs an evo? Theyre like $150 in difference. Warranty I dont care about because my original non pro 840 and 840 evo are still kicking after using and abusing them since they came out.

Currently have a 250gb 850 evo with no problems. Just I mean why is the pro so much more? People mentioned Mlc vs tlc? Or something along those lines.

It's a cheap decent SSD to hold you over till 3DXpoint.

Enjoy paying double the price for an extra 30~50ish mbps that you won't notice in the real world.

With the shit Crucial pulled with their MX100 drive health dropping so fast that the drive won't even reach 200TB life, I'm probably not buying another Crucial.

Plently of people on /g/ with more writes and more health left.

The fucking reviews on the internet saying SSDs will hit a petabyte of writes and even the bottom of the barrel intel 300 series hitting 300TB

I bought a SSD to be used, not to pamper it by running pagefiles and all my write shit on a mechanical like I'm doing right now. Why did I even bother with this SSD if I'll have to do all my stuff on a slow ass mechanical anyways?

Well, I bought the Kingston 120gb when they where new, and have used them for 2 years as a raid 0 array as my main boot drive. I bought 2 new one to make a raid 0 with 4 drives.

but I noticed the new where lighter than the old.

but they work just as good, all drives work fine in raid 0 with 4 drives or 2. in anycombo, s they preform fine, ive since changed my setup to have my boot os on a singel ssd, and make a raid 0 out of the 3other disks and use as ram insted.

they seem to work just fine.

TL;DR version -

Samsung 850 Evo has objectively better performance than Ultra II across the range.

Both drives use TLC with different implementations. 850 Evo uses 40nm 3D NAND lithography while Ultra II uses 19nm flat (single layer) NAND.

It really depends what capacity you're looking at and when you want to buy, in my opinion the SanDisk SSDs are worth it if they're on sale at a decent enough discount (50% ideally)..

>>51623590
128 gb is overkill. / doesn't need to be larger than 15gb, and 50 gb for /usr is more than plenty. /var, / home and /swap (assuming you need it at all) goes on your non-ssd bulk storage drive, and /tmp goes in tmpfs. So it's not about affording shit, so much as its about not being a complete n00b. Stick with OSX or Windows gaming if all you're concerned with is being fashionable.

the 850 evos are like $70 for the 120gb and $80 for the 240gb on newegg, dunno how that pricing makes sense.
>>

I have two 500gb Kingston SSDs which switched computers twice, had a fuckton of files on them and moved off them and moved back on, I installed various operating systems on and whatnot.

Also, they're a good four years old by now. I don't know how fast current gen SSDs are since I haven't had the need to buy any new ones yet, so I can't make any comparisons in terms of speed, but in terms of doing what they should do, these things still work perfectly fine.
