I'm on Ubuntu and I have this weird new addiction: I love to search for updates and then upgrade my old packages.
I can't really explain why I'm doing this but I can't stop.
The more the updates and upgrades are the better.
However my packages are quite updated nowadays and there's nothing to upgrade. :(
Please give me ideas - I want to install new stuff, but only apps that are frequently updated, so I can upgrade them many times.
i know I'm insane.
Still, please, give me ideas!
(Pic is obviously not related)
Also I'm on Ubuntu 14.04
wow this is some next-level odd-realm fetishism
that said, make sure you're on development branches for all software you use
One more thing: the updates / upgrades don't have to be "big" - it's the quantity that matters.
if I update I want to see new stuff (not always, of course, but often).
It somehow... feels good.
(Pics still unrelated, but I'd like to give back something. I don't want to look ungrateful).

>wow this is some next-level odd-realm fetishism
I'm well aware of that. :D
>that said, make sure you're on development branches for all software you use
Only problem is: I want stable softwares.
But wait a minute... if I don't even want to use them... hohhoooo, you're really saying somethiiiing!
>>51614515
Update to 14.10 I think its out.
>>51614571
>>51614625
But then this is still buggering me: I don't want a lot of garbage on my pc.
It'd be good if I could find apps that somehow have benefits.
>>51614670
>Update to 14.10 I think its out.
I already thought of that.
But 14.04 is still more stable...

I haven't played world of warcraft in years but I still frequently go to mmo-c. When I don't know what web address I want to go to, i Just type mmo-c and my browser autofills and I hit enter and before I know it I've spent an hour and a half reading about a dead game I don't play any more for no reason.
OCD is a thing man, the first step is admitting you have a problem. If it's not really detrimental, it's not really a problem. Embrace it. I enjoy reading news about World of Warcraft, you enjoy updating shit. Doesn't hurt anything, so .. keep doing it.
>>51614697
>muh stable meme
Install Arch/Gentoo you shitter
look at a gif like this.
non stop updating.
>>51614479
You should switch to rolling-release distro, or FreeBSD at least. I also like watching my ports compile and update...
Sounds like you need a rolling release distro my friend. I -Syu every day and there's almost always updates. Feels good
>>51614708
>OCD is a thing man, the first step is admitting you have a problem.
Implying I suffer from it or describing it as a bad thing...
>>51614782
Mmm!
Just look at thaaat!
Isn't it beautiful?
Thanks for the idea!
>>51614800
>>51614818
>rolling-release distro
For example?
>>51615072
>For example?
Fedora is still pretty easy like Ubuntu. Arch if you want a challenge.
>>51614479You should definitely switch to gentoo current to get lots of updates and compile it yourself so it takes even more time.
Just install gnome or KDE and you will get huge tons of em
Set up a cron job to update every hour automatically
>>51614479

You see?!!
This is perfection.
All those beautiful lists...
The moment when you dist-upgrade...
It's joy. Fulfillment. Eternal glory.
That is love, my friend.
Pure love.

>>51617718
Nope. It's me.
I didnt even knew that this sort of perverted /g/ rule 34 ever existed...
>>51617718
So you can not appreciate pure beauty, even in simple, yet strange things, like updating and upgrading your computer?
>>51614515
install 15.10
enable unstable repository
enjoy fresh updates
>>51615663
>>51615726
Thank you for the ideas!
I'll check rolling release distros, maybe I'll like one of them.
>>51616854
It's not the point.
Auto update is no fun.
I have to do it!
>>51617037
I don't know. :(
>>51617612
Not a bad idea.
But more updates / upgrades would be better.
>>51617890
Already thought of that, thank you!
Hmm... stability vs fetish?
Damnit, I just don't know!
switch to LFS, then manually update all the packages with upstream/git versions . You will spend your life updating and compiling
>>51614670
I shouldn't have laughed so hard at that.
ubuntu uses year.month naming scheme with a new snapshot at the end of april (.04) and in the end of october (.10)
Knowing this, you should know that there is a 15.10 out there and that is the latest version.
If you want stability you should know what that means.
Stability (in the linux world) means no major UI changes, no api changes etc.
This means only security patches will get to your system so your system is safe, but you won't get new features.
14.04 is great if you want the system to be rock solid for a couple of years without having to fear an update will break anything.
A rolling system is a system where you get updates as they come, security or features, everything comes to your system as someone makes it.
This means you never have to deal with versions as you just use the latest. This is also referred to as unstable as you never know if something changes and if it breaks you are expected to fix it yourself.
>>51614625
what software gets new releases commonly yet is still considered stable? what do you think they add in newer development releases? chances are there are a lot less bugs and better performance as opposed to more bugs and security holes. and why is this? because usually the things that work are kept. except for web browsers. thats the only exception i can think of. every new release they break half the things because they try to reinvent the wheel since they havent required updates is years
>>51614479
install arch linux, install the -git packages of your favorite software

>>51614479
did you update kernel to the latest version
>>51618129
I'm sorry I made you angry.
Maybe you should update and upgrade your pc.
It always helps me to release stress.
But I'm happy that all these kind anons helped me and gave ideas how to set repos and use distros.
After all, we're at 30 replies - these could derail some other important problems / issues in that sqt thread.
Here, take this cute girl as an apology gift!
>>51618193
I don't know. :(
Unfortunately I'm a tech noob.
