One of Nokia's "lipstick" phones. Not meant for EDC. Rather it was targeted at women for their weekend partying. It's slimmed down to two essential functions, camera for photos, and making phone calls by voice commands. Thus eliminating the need for the keypad.

Kind of weird and dumb in retrospect but it blew our little minds.

Little PDA sized computer with wireless capability to communicate with each other. Came with a dev kit so you could develop your own applications.

One of my friends though it was going to be the next big thing. While I thought the idea of it was pretty neat, I knew it was going to dead in a year or two. I think they later released a second model.

While some of these older phones might seem strange, at least manufacturers were trying new and different things. Today, everything is just very slight variations on the same thing. Even PDA's, which were more like the smartphones of today, were trying different designs.

It's kinda sad how smartphones became so capable. Now manufacturers won't make cool gadgets, they would rather just add features to smartphones. Also almost every smartphone looks the same so there's nothing aesthetically cool about them anymore.

Well at least there are smartwatches which have the potential to be cool in the future.

Always wanted a Mylo for some reason. They ended up being Sony's PreSP.

Also, I miss Mini Disc. I had a MD player back when mp3 players only came in Fuckhuge HDD or pitiful flash sizes, with no respectable SD card sizes (2005-ish?) I hated Sony's soundstage software, but loved the hardware.

When you consider the time they came out, video cameras meant either MiniDV, or the shitty video mode that still-cameras then offered.

They do pretty decent video though the focal length is pretty long. And the built in USB meant you could upload directly without having to look for cables or card readers. My friend also found he didn't have to do as much color correction to match the nicer, "real" Canon cameras we usually shot with, compared to some other cameras we'd use.

One more. I managed to take a pic while the digits overlap. Once you power it on, it quickly cycles through 0-9 on all 4 tubes. This all happens within about 1 second

Nah, it's just a clock.

That is cool as shit. I'd love to get one for my desk, but the seem fairly expensive by the looks of things.

This was a great piece of design. Much better sound quality than many smartphones too, though I recall the output buzzing audibly when the screen's backlight turned on.

I will, I already have rockbox on it because iTunes is cancer. Do you have a link to an adapter?

I had this 32MB Gateway iRiver piece of shit.

It was horrible. You could barely fit an album on it.

not very much. My particular one does have a coil while when you turn up the brightness too high but it varies depending on what parts are used and who made it.

MiniDiscs. Basically a portion of a regular CD in a cartridge. They held like 300MiB but used something like mp3 compression to fit more on there. I got a South Park minidisc back in the day. It was awesome, back when CDs were the norm, the MiniDiscs would be skip proof, they would display track and album names, you could resume from where you left off. When you recorded audio, it was "CD-Quality", i.e. so much better than the phone quality shit you would get on anything else up to that point. They were basically a bridge between CD players and MP3 players.

When you held them in your hand and shook them a bit they rattled a little and it was one of those weird little things where it was actually kind of satisfying. Shit wasn't cheap though.

Now I'm actually really curious. Which of these can run it?
