Going for a blue and black theme. Is this good?
Or is it worth buying regular 980Tis and installing a custom loop instead?
>>
http://pcpartpicker.com/guide/xfmPxr/i5-4460-gtx-960-gaming-pc

I keep seeing this build around a lot. Is there anything wrong with it? I might just save myself the trouble and buy the whole thing.

No one on Reddit is helping a nigga out, so here's my build I've come up with
>>
>>51478212
Just check some reviews for what 980Ti to get.
Fury X is very hard to give a recommendation on, I get wet feet if I see 4GB for a card that price.
>850 Pro
Just no. Just get the EVO. Don't be that guy.
>VIII IMPACT
Do you want shit price performance? No. No you don't. Get something cheaper that'll perform just as good.
1kW is stupidly overkill unless you're going to quad-sli.
500W for single, 700W for double. Don't overdo it.

>>51478335
Sexy build.
Well, if you got that much cash to spend I can't really complain.

>>51478503
It's actually a rather shitty build.
Overpriced motherboard that makes no sense. If you're going to throw 100 bucks at it make sure it's a Z97 at the very least.
4460 when the 4590 is about the same price.
PNY ssd? Just get a goddamn Samsung/Crucial for less.

Aside from that it's... Ok?
Not really fond of the core 1500 as well, imo not good price/performance.

>>51478611
Do you want me to give feedback or did you forget a part of your post?
>>

All of it is coming out of my computer/goodies fund that's been accumulating for 5 years. I will never buy parts from my yearly income now.

Ok.

EVO? 840 instead of 850? Why's that? 850 got recommended to me last night.

The VIII Impact fits to my case and has wlan to it, I save money with it. Also comes up with soundcard and optical.
>>
>>51479054
If you use all the features the board has to offer and no cheaper board can offer it I can see why you would get it.

850 Evo. The pro is too expensive, you're halfway to a 1/2TB.

>>51479045
Fair enough.

I save about 70 euros with the VIII mini itx mobo since it includes wlan and fits a case I already have and I have fairly expensive headphones (350e.) which would benefit from optical output.

It is faster and cheaper. Assuming your board supports x4 and nvme.

Does the 950 Pro have the same issue?
>>
>>51480232
No, because it's a consumer SSD, not an OEM like the SM951 and XP941. It should have better firmware and full factory warranty, unlike the SM951 and XP941.
>>
>>51480353
The 950 pro is slower and the sm951 is now consumer with the nvme version. That was the achi giving trouble. Also I have an lga 1151 board for this purpose which is more compatible with m.2.
>>
>>51480464
>sm951 is now consumer with the nvme
Nope, in fact the NVMe SM951 has more compatibility issues with motherboards if you try to use it as a primary boot drive. Most Z97 motherboards don't have BIOS updates to support that NVMe drive as a bootable medium.

I agree, that's why I went Z170. Which I recommend if you want an M.2 drive. That said, if you have a Z170 board then you will have not problem getting the sm951 nvme to boot.

For gaming purpose how good are the Freesync and G/Sync in general

My budget is around 700 bucks. I mainly game, but the only real new game i play is fallout 4, and if i can get that to work on a radeon HD 7450, i think i can get it to work on a 750TI.
>>
>>51481286
It depends on the game. A game like Fallout has a lot of micro stutter, which should really help. Other games probably won't matter at all. If your GPU can't handle the load, then it isn't going to help. I would say you are better off putting money into a better gpu before that.

>>
>>51482009
Literally almost anything else.
Speed doesn't matter unless you're using APUs.
Just get 8/16GB DDR3 1600 MHz G.Skill/Crucial/Kingston/Corsair. Avoid stupidly tall heat spreaders, they create clearance issues with your HSF and don't do anything for you.
>>
>>51482152
Why DDR3 and not 4?
and how can I detect 'stupidly tall heat spreaders'
>>
>>51482163
I'm assuming you're talking about DDR3 because that's what most people use but if you're going for X99/Z170 then you NEED DDR4.

In that case just get 2133/2400/whatthefuckever that's good for the price.

If the RAM has more than just heatspreaders and has actual fins on top then it's ricer block your air cooler shit.

Pretty expensive board. I've had good experiences with ASUS but the Z170-A costs less and has pretty much everything.

Like I said at the start the small motherboard saves me money by having wireless network adapter in it + fitting to a case I already own.

It is cheaper to me than buying larger mobo (that'd be cheaper because it'd lack wireless and wouldnt fit case > need to buy new case)

Should be around $485 when you factor in the processor/mobo combo savings from Microcenter.

How's this looking?

>>

Ideally you'd want a 4gb 380.
>>
>>51490569
Eh, the 380 likely isn't powerful enough to see much use from that extra 2GB. Plus, I got a pretty damn good deal on that model.

If that's the only critique, I'm pretty happy desu

My computer is getting a little old now and i would like to update it a bit, low cost as possible.

>>51490737
i can probably get it for 100-200 euros cheaper from local (web)shops and i won't be having so much shipping costs
other than that what's wrong with w7?
>>
>>51490756
That board doesn't support 4th gen core iX processors, so if you want something newer than Ivy Bridge (i.e. 4790k) then you'll need a new mobo.
>>
>>51490803
I see, will I be fine with an i5?
>>
>>51490802
It's a six year old OS that doesn't support DX12. It's also not botnet free, if you're an autist about that sort of thing.

Just pirate or buy a cheap w10 key

>>51490815
Same deal, Ivy Bridge is the newest you can go. If you can get a good deal on an i5-2500k and then OC the shit out of it, that'll likely make a big difference without needing a new board.
Although, I'm not sure if that chipset allows overclocking.

The 4gb 380 doesn't get murdered as badly as the 2gb version in the latest and greatest games. It isn't that it can use 4gb per se, its that it has more than 2gb.

See: why powerful cards like the 770 are failing behind as they hit the vram wall due to modern memory bloat.
>>

can /g/ tell me if the ram and mobo i chooses are a good choice?
>>
>>51490881
I believe you, but the chances of finding a 4GB version for the same price are slim to none.

I already have a much more powerful computer. This one was built as an htpc/light gaming/facebook machine for my parents and young sibling.

As long as it can pull 1080p60 with console-level graphics, they'll be more than content. No sense spending an additional $50 for something no one will appreciate.
>>
what do you guys think on this build?
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/zk3qt6

I have my doubts in the motherboard and the monitor are not what I want to take, but very close.

I want to stick to 1920x1080 60fps at high specs gaming for the next years, and I think I won't OC in a near future.
>>
Hey guys I am thinking about building a new PC and giving the one I have now to family when the time comes.

I have been out of the loop for a good 2 years or so and the only thing I've heard was to wait for pascal that will be coming out next year. Should I wait till next year before I start getting parts or should I take advantage of black friday coming up and get some now?

Budget is not an issue, but I want to utilize what I buy as opposed to just getting the best of the best. It will be mainly for gaming.
>>
>>51491601
Next year, but some parts that would be a fair purchase now would be a high quality power supply if that's what you're planning on getting. By high quality I mean like a Seasonic or EVGA gold /platinum PSU. If you find a good one that suits your needs and is on sale for a good price get it. If you just want a bronze, those are always on sale at one manufacturer or another so no need to bother.

>Skylake CPUs will get cheaper. Haswell will phase out.
>Motherboards will improve, at least in software. Z170 is pretty spotty right now
>SSDs will get cheaper and faster, then change to M.2 or PCIe

Any black friday deals worth taking up?

Why do cheap cases have to look ricey as fuck with all them windows and led fans and plastic edges and shit?
>>
Short version of question: Using a PSU calculator, it said I'd currently use 502w of my 520w PSU if I were to get a new GPU(i.e GTX 950 or something), would that be cutting it too close or does it not matter unless I decide add another HDD or something?

Long version: I have an MSI Z87M Micro ATX Intel Motherboard, Intel Core i5-4590 Haswell Quad-Core 3.3 GHz LGA 1150, 1 stick of ram, 2 SATA HDDs and an ATI 5770. Would I blow something up if I decide to get a new GPU but it just so happens to draw more power than my 520w PSU can supply? I'd rather not deal with buying a new PSU and GPU at the same time right now and I really don't care to game at ultra high settings.
>>
>>51492029

Get something a bit more powerful now so that you don't have to buy a new PSU if/when you upgrade the graphics card.
>>
>>51492012

Probably because people who cheap out on a case want to look like they have just signed up for xbox live.

>>51492029

>>51492059

I built this PC back in probably 2008 and it's a modular Corsair PSU. Damn, was hoping I wouldn't have to spend additional $ unless I really decided to cheap out and just get a 750ti since it doesn't need a pci-e power connector
>>
>>51492101

>>
>>51492117

Well 50w of headroom isn't much but like I said, a quality psu will take it when you are talking something like a 950.
>>
>>51491058
In that price range you shouldn't be getting a locked chip. Skylake sucks. Get an i5-4690k for a similar price and something like an MSI Z97 Krait for your motherboard. Same price better chip. It turbo boosts to 3.9GHz even if you don't plan on OC, and it keeps the OC option open which you will appreciate when one day you do it and kick yourself for being so scared of an unbelievably easy thing to do these days. You motherfuckers don't even have to OC the frontside bus anymore or balance RAM and CPU clocks. Literally all you have to do is change a number to 45 and go to the voltage and hit + on the numpad once and that's it.

Speaking of which, at that budget you should be getting a cooler. A noctua D15 comes to mind. CM Hyper 212 EVO is a cheaper but louder alternate.

You didn't select a power supply. If you plan on NEVER going crossfire, the EVGA nex Supernova 650 is fairly priced and fully modular as well as high quality.

Is that SSD actually that fast? You can get a SATA Samsung 850 EVO 500GB for less money.

How well did you research those monitors? They're not good. Only HDMI and VGA output. Also your GPU only has 1 HDMI out and no VGA. Something to look into is the ACER H236HLbid. They have HDMI and DVI inputs so you can connect 1 HDMI and 1 DVI. There might be something better though. Ask around for monitors but take it with a grain of salt because most people are retarded when it comes to giving advice about monitors.

Hi I'm new to all this and just coming by for Black Friday tips. Don't know much about tech related things but I need to upgraded a toaster and want to make sure I buy hardware that is compatible with each other. Do sites like PC Part Picker automatically filter your motherboard results for compatible ones after you pick your CPU?

Also if I wanted to run a game like ARMA 3 which is really CPU intensive, would it be better to shell out more money on an i7 or is this "you only need an i5 for gaming" thing I hear about true? Because in that case I'd wanna look into an I5 6600k.
>>
>>51492193
yes

as along as you know exactly the motherboard that is in your pc, it will automatically filter to what is compatible as CPU/RAM/GPU etc..

A better guitar like the one I have is nice but not necessary. I get compliments on the sound every time I go to some music shop to fuck around because it definitely does sound better than anything I've played and feels better. You get what you pay for. I don't even use an amplifier. I use studio monitors and plug my guitar into an audio interface and run Amplitube, amplifier simulator software. It's easily the best solution I've come across for modern guitar. You can (if you pirate everything) get basically any sound you'd ever want and manipulate it digitally, unlike you could with a real amplifier. It sounds perfect and is much more convenient.

>>
>>51492700

>Do the different ports like HDMI, DVI, D-Sub etc have different image quality or something?

Inherently no, but its tied to bandwidth. As in, displayport 1.3 (iirc) is good for 4k 60fps and is very common, hdmi 2.0 is required for 4k 60fps on a single connection and is much less common.

The various analogue connections are depreciated tier and should never be considered.

Avoid VGA ALWAYS if you can help it
ALWAYS ALWAYS use displayport if it's available
If you don't need display audio, use DVI over HDMI because some implementations of HDMI are bad and because it has no locking mechanism
If you don't have DP or DVI-D or you need audio but don't have DP, use HDMI

>>
>>51493095
If you have to ask, you aren't doing anything in which RAM speed would matter to you. If it did matter for your workload, you would know already.

The only exception is if your are using an APU/IGP (aka you don't have a dedicated video card) like in many laptops. In that case it matters a lot.

Does this mean you should pay $35 for 1600 sticks when you could get 2300 sticks for $40? No. Don't be stupid. Even if you won't notice the difference much, it's fucking $5/$10

I don't have a Fury X, only a 980 Ti. The build is for what I'm gonna buy at where I'm moving to (some shithole in Oregon).

At 4K I can run quite a few games at 60 FPS (Battlefront most recently, but had to run it fullscreen instead of borderless).

I'm talking about scaling in relation to how much an extra card helps. It seems that AMD scales nearly linearly, while NVIDIA you usually get only a 50% boost with a second card.

What a custom loop will allow if you to monster overclock your cards AND have them run at mid 50's under 100% load.

The fury x cooling is essentially a mini custom loop, doing it yourself will give you pretty much the same setup with the added advantage of having both gpus connected to the same radiator.

Okay so, I have this so far:

Anything that needs to be changed?

You'll want to double check the amount of fan mounting space that case has as 4 radiators takes up a lot of space.

That fucking Apple keyboard you faggot.

What do you do for a living if you need CrossFire 3x Fury Xs?

Whatever you say buddy.

The GPU radiators are 3x 120mm, the case supports those on the top, plus the CPU one that I'll probably put in the back to replace the stock one.

I am a faggot with too much money on my hands for living, I'm probably only getting 2 for now, perhaps upgrading later if I notice any fucking frame drop.

You dont need crossfire fury x for work and still get it?
>>

I don't need it. But like I said, I'm a faggot. There's no counter argument to that.
