Should I switch from uBlock to uMatrix? What are the difficulties of using uMatrix?

uMatrix is basically NoScript and RequestPolicy rolled into one add-on. If you had too much trouble using either of those you probably won't like uMatrix very much, although I find uMatrix much more user friendly than those two.

Only autists with a lot of time on their hands use uMatrix. uBlock already features the possibility to block scripts by default and allow them only from/to the domains you want.
Also, it's 2015 and you shouldn't have any plugin other than the DRM thing installed.
I use uMatrix, but still have Noscript installed in order to block webfonts.

If you want noscript behavior you can just set uMatrix to only block on the global scale and switch to domains when you want to unbreak a site. There are multiple ways to use uMatrix. You could just have uMatrix white list everything by and use it to see what connections get through.

uMatrix to block scripts/xhr/other content types.
uBlock Origin for cosmetic filtering.

I tried using it and it's a total pain in the ass. In the end I gave up and also set NoScript to allow scripts recursively.

I use it, but I don't know how anyone could practically use the web nowadays without having scripts enabled. One of the main reasons I started using Umatrix is to bypass sites that are now yelling at users with "Why are you using adblock???", so if I come across a site with that, I turn scripts off.

NoScript and uMatrix have overlapping functionality but uMatrix doesn't offer the same functionality of uMatrix.
That isn't to say uMatrix is bad. It just isn't the same as NoScript.
I would suggest you do some research on your own. There are lots of uMeme shills that will make half truth claims. And doesn't mean uBlock/uMatrix are bad.
NoScript has protections which uBlock can't offer which is why NoScript isn't available in Chrome. But NoScript can be a pain in the ass to use. It isn't anywhere near as user friendly as uBlock. Also note uMatrix isn't supposed to be for beginners. You will see others mention this as you do your Internet searching.
After you do your research you may find that you don't need the protections offered by NoScript. Or that it is too much of a hassle to use. But NoScript and uMatrix are not exactly the same in terms of functionality.

I find ublock origin in default-deny mode to be sufficient. No need for noscript, umatrix, request policy or shit like privacy badger.
Take the time to really read the wiki on ublock's github.

be aware, the button adds/removes a permanent font rule for the site, not a temporary rule
anyways, I use umatrix for deciding where a site can get it resources from, and block scripts and such generally, while ublock gets to take of ads and block inline scripts
I find this setup a lot nicer than abp+noscript.
