Mushrooms are indeed top tier, but these particular ones i was looking for only appear when it's very moist and sunny.

My S5S is holding up quite well after a couple years as a beater. Accuracy while worn is excellent (+3/secs per 12 hours), but when not the accuracy is so so while it unwinds.

It's from the Suillus family. They add a very oil~ish taste to the soup.

And when precision on the Seiko 5 deteriorates (which can take anywhere from 5~10 years of usage) it's best to toss them in the drawer in most cases.

But from what i know, as long as you run it every month or so it'll be fine for a long time.

My first mechanical was an SNX809 I bought back when I was in High School. Loved that watch, but unfortunately it had the dreaded "B" revision of the 7S26. After the hairspring fucked up for the third time I just retired it to a desk drawer. I've recently thought about swapping in a 7S26C, or possibly even a 4R36 if it'll fit.
>>
>>51410189
Seems so.

This was the other option i dug up.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Seiko-Mens-SNX807K-Silver-Stainless-Steel-Automatic-Watch-/291603466062?hash=item43e4ebc74e:g:eWYAAOSwA4dWNIMt

Price isn't so bad, and since i remember you from a couple weeks back asking about the same watch i guess a lil bit more won't matter.

But for slightly more shekels you can get an SNZ~ series Seiko 5S like (>>51409311,>>51410078), which is vastly better.

Hello from a noob here. Where do I find model number on my watch?

I have an old Jaquet-Droz. Only thing that I can find on the back is 18k 0.750, under that there's 1112 written, and on the left a number 105.

Google gives me nothing. It's an old watch with golden case and leather stripes.

Talking about reissues I only found out today that Seiko have reissued an updated version of the fairly iconic Giorgetto Giugiaroto designed 7a28 chronographs that were worn in Aliens. They've done a fairly good job but there's a few annoying changes, there's only two pushers (the original had 3 and the crown), they needlessly added a date window and the sub seconds register has been replaced with a pointless 24 hour indicator, all thanks to them using a 7t12 movement. Still it looks pretty similar to the original and is available for about a third of what the originals now cost on eBay.

It says water resist right fucking on it, it's good enough for a proper dive to 30m, sink diving may be pushing it a little but it should survive. If not, it's a $12 piece of shit watch, who cares?

Your watch is from the 60's or 70's and is unrelated to the Jaquet Droz of today. Quick and dirty history lesson from articles I read. Pierre Jaquet-Droz made clocks and pocket watches in the mid to late 1700's. A group resurrected the name in the 1960's and made middling quality watches until they were killed off in the quartz crisis. The Swatch Group resurrected the name again in 2001 to manufacture luxury watches.

Hey /wt, one of my good friends is in Japan right now, he's going to be visiting Osaka, Kobe and Tokyo. He's going to have a few days cordoned off for shopping so I might ask him to drop by a thrift store to see if he can grab an old Seiko of some kind (a 44KS, 6138 or something along those lines).

Does anyone know of any stores in particular, or somewhere that may have a list of good bargain places? I know these Japs on eBay must be getting these watches from somewhere.

Hey /wt/, Im looking to buy a watch in the <2k pricerange, <1k preferred. Im looking for a watch with an interestesting movement, dial or history, like a chronograph or a snowfrake-like dial. I've been looking to Seiko's 6138/9 or Citizens' 8110A movt watches, or those Seiko King Twin Quartz with the patterned dials. What other recs do you have?

Im sorry for asking to be spoonfed, but I live in bumfuck, south america and I have a short timespan to order a watch to reach me in a trip to the states in december.

Hi guys, I've seen a strange watch on a guy today maybe you can help id it.

It was a large watch (probably >4cm) modern/futuristic looking with a busy/crowded dial, black body and dial, every element was illuminated in light blue (markers/hands...) and it looked like a weird hologram from some angles.
>>
What are some cheap-ish watches with interesting dials? Textured/shiny dials? SARB/GS -like dials in the <1k or <500 pricerange. Some vintage vostok/poljot/raketa have nice uncommon dials, but I alr3ady have an orange wostok from the 70'. What else is there in the vintage market?

I'm not going to sit here and argue that they are reasonably priced for what you get because I'm not convinced any luxury watch is really worth the price but there is a lot that goes into making one of these.

It's hand assembled. It has a fully in-house designed and manufactured movement. The case is made in their shop. It's got a handcrafted enamel dial. Basically everything that can be done by hand is and they do as much as possible in-house, I believe the dial is outsourced though.

The purpose of a dresswatch is to be elegant and suit the formal clothes you are wearing.
What is or is not elegant varies, based on the current style and taste of the wearer.

There are no rules on what a dresswatch has to look like. People wore their steel rolexes to formal events and nobody got assblasted.
Well, maybe some autists like you.

>There are no rules on what a dresswatch has to look like

Welcome newfriend. With continued lurking you will eventually learn the difference between the dress watch as a genre and watches that you can wear with a suit, which don't have to be dress watches at all.

thanks, I think i will spend some time researching them.

It's an extra 2mm of diameter plus the crown guards and it's generally just a bit chunkier looking.

>>51421008
But really the differences are just aesthetics and price, they have the same movement and all the same basic features as far as a solid bracelet and sapphire crystal and a weak little amount of lume and all that.

5 days after last being set, and the SARB017 is now running pretty much dead on time.

Are you legitimately autistic? You seem to have a lot of trouble understanding people's posts.

Anyway, the point had nothing to do with wearing something other than a suit to formal events you fucking retarded mongoloid.

The point is that there is a genre of watches called "dress watches" that have specific elements to their design, as opposed to whatever watch might be wearable in formal situations without raising an eyebrow.

Pretty much the same thickness, but the SARB feels thinner because looking at it from the side it curves and tapers inward whereas the SARX is more square. It really isn't much bigger when you compare side by side, it just looks bigger.

I love the angular look of the SARX. Kind of harkens back to the old Grammar of Design watches.

>does not tell a supposed newfag why he is wrong

Other people have already explained to him yet he persists in his childish rhetoric.

I'll try my best to add a few more reasons here: Tool watches are intended to be used casually or as tools ie. divers, sport, pilot. pic related.

Dress watches are more refined and delicate and are meant for formal occasions and should be understated.

What is the best watch for under 250 bucks /g/ and for someone who never bought a watch in their lives?

PS. I like minimalism and hate shiny shit
