i plugged in my hard disk after waiting half a fucking week for it to arrive in the mail to be confronted with a clicking sound. it now takes a good 2 minutes just to boot past the bios screen. then when it finally boots in to Windows 7, the disk isn't detected by the partitioning tool. is it borked or am i supposed to do something in BIOS or something?

I noticed lately that when I try to transfer files to my android tablet from my PC over my network, my android tablet is deleting them from my PC even though I clearly told it to copy them, and often before the transfer is even completed! Why would it do this?

Yeah, you can even download it from the manufacturer website.
Of course, if you just told us the motherboard exact model or system model we would be able to tell you faster what you need.

>how to get 24V DC down to 1,9V?

Use a voltage regulator. Some regulate down to a specific voltage (12V, 5V, etc). Others can be configured with resistors. Depending on the load, you may want to use several, like 24V ==> 12V ==> 5V ==> 1.9V.

I recently migrated from Chrome to Chromium, and I noticed that some videos, especially on Twitter, don't work.

I looked it up and apparently it's due to the fact that Twitter is using AVC/H.264 and AAC for its videos. Is there anyway to get codecs for this on Chromium ?

Well first of all, just remember that composite video quality is shit. 480 lines, interlaced so you only see half of them per vsync, and a shitton of artifacting due to the standard being a hacky workaround for black and white video anyway.

Encoding for NTSC (which I'm guessing the system uses, not PAL) is a bitch and I'm pretty sure it can't be done that simply.

Freshly gratuated IT eng.
First real work,, 0 previous experience in web dev. Never used javascript in my life. Company placed me to work with asp.net, couple years old web-app consisting of thousands of files and references already.

"You'll be good, just look for the others code".

My job is to conduct simple modifications, but sometimes there is a need to apply a new functionality.

I'm slowly doing my job, spending 80% time on google and asking more experienced teammates (which have also their tasks to do). I want to know the topic, understand it, but i think for that, jumping right into deep water, when i need 20 breakpoints to understand 1 var change is not a way to go.

How to get inside? Not in terms of language itself. Semantics is not the problem. I mean the general idea of web-app.

Read some asp.net books? Which ones? Even if for now i feel like i had to read like 5 to cover the material for this one project. Online tutorials? Creating simple webs being guided by the online tutorial does not really clarify the things enough for me...

A while ago I was fucking around with my audio interface drivers (can't think of anything else) and some half-hour later everything stopped, the fan suddenly went absolutely mental and I got a blue screen. The laptop has been running a bit hotter (and thus also louder) ever since, but otherwise seems fine.
I don't really know much about cooling so I've no idea what happened. Should I be worried?
I put back the Focusrite drivers, but I really wanna switch to Asio4All because Focusrite's keep crashing on low latency settings. Scared this'll happen again if I try anything, though.

got 2x1TB HDDs and thought I will put them to raid 1, so went around, got in bios set it to raid, then had to switch back and tweak registry of windows then boot again, set up raid 1 under bios "controller" (ctrl+i), ran windows had to create volume and only fuarrking NTFS was available and I would like to have fat32 on it. Put gparted in cd-rom and it does not boot, does not even in fail-safe mode, then use mini-tool bootable something and it sees it as two fucking harddrives with same stuff, alright, formatted one of them to fat32, booted to live xubuntu, ran gparted, it shat a lot of gpt problems blablabla stuff, went to ctrl+i bios thingie, deleted volume, created volume, one fat32 nigger is still there, why the fuck? anyways, would like to get a solution into getting this shit working properly... This entire application is outdated for like 10 years now (its stable version runs consecutively in several offices for couple of years now).

I won't give up development, the company policy is to put freshmen to the first project with empty vacancy, so I landed in one where fucking everything is new... The things I did for the first time during the last 3 weeks consist of writing postgre procedures, generating raports based on rdl, implementing word addins, optimizing linq queries and ofc - webforms.. everything was (quite) fine untill i got a task closely related with javascript, amount of new stuff without the training period slowly overwhelms me... +Simultaneously with web-app a clone desktop app is being developed using winforms, and there I'm doing fine, just the ratio of the tasks can be presented as 7 to 1 for the web so unfortunately we donn't cannot focus on desktop.

if i build a pc do i need to buy extra wires? or do i get the 2 cables i need when i buy a hdd, and all necessary power cables from psu?
>>
>>51408904
Pretty much always you will get all the required parts to connect the hardware bundled with it. Only exception is certain OEM packages, for example if it says "bare drive" then it's just the hard drive without any connectors.
>>
>>51408939
Also as far as power cables, unless your PSU is modular all the cables will be permanently attached to it anyway, so it's not like you need to buy new ones. Even if it is modular it will come with all the stuff you can stick on it together with it.

>boys I have Phenom II X 965 BE

Look into what CPU your motherboard can support. If it can supply the power, the 8350 is great. The 9xxx is even better, but pulls 140 watts.

I upgraded from a 965 BE to an 8350 and I'm still really happy with the performance.

That said, if your existing hardware won't support the 8350, then switch over to Intel. The 8350 compares favorably to my friend's 2011-era, mediocre i7. A modern i5 is faster than the 8350.

Yebbut fizzbuzz is what gets you hired. Well, not fizz buzz exactly, but from everything I've seen in the last decade, people hardly pay any attention to your actual experience and qualifications. Instead, it's become some kind of weird meta joke where all the interviewers are asking total bullshit questions that you literally study interviewing websites and books to pass (see: Cracking The Coding Interview).

I have to say that the recruitment process was promising (but i understand I have nothing to compare it with so far). I talked with the HR girl for maybe 10 minutes, and then for 1 hour with one of the programmers testing my skills. But it was more like a free-speech confession of technologies I know and used so far, languages, systems, dmbs etc. with short "in depth" questions to check if I'm honest about the ones i admitted to know.

The result is for the general view of the HR and the supervising leader. But because there were not much vacancy left, I was assigned to the existing, slowly finishing project, so I don't change my mind about the company, waiting without paycheck for an empty slot.

Beginners guide to CPUs:
- ignore everything but Intel for now
- for very cheap builds: pentium G3258 OC
- ignore i3 unless you need hyperthreading (which means 2 cores + 2 virtual ones in case you are poor but need more cores because you do cpu intensive stuff like rendering)
- i5 is great even for gaming because 4 cores and price. most important options are the overclockable ones (with k at the end) and the cheapest one (6400)
- i7 is only good if you have the cash or regulary do stuff like 3d rendering or encoding etc., dunno what models to get

for now, ignore every socket but 1151 as it just came out and will be around for a while, right now it makes no sense to still build 1150 even if you are on a really tight budget

for gpus: nvidia for flagships, amd for cheaper cards
get ASUS version whenever possible (personal opinion no h8)

Some Clip+ questions-

I think the left button is acting funny. I'm on RockBox and listen to NSF files, and changing tracks within the NSF requires me to hold down either left or right for about a second. But when I hold down left, sometimes it will go back to the start of the file, like some kind of double-click or something. How can I safely open up my Clip+? I've got a spare one laying around that no longer works and I was considering swapping parts to fix the problem.

Is RockBox still in development for Clip+?

From what I remember, the Clip+ can only take a max of a 32GB MicroSD card, but on Rockbox it can take 64GB, can anyone confirm this?

You're probably thinking that "drone" means autonomous worker, but it doesn't. Drone means a continuous buzzing-type sound. Drone worker became applied to droning bees, then you started to assume drone meant automaton.

What is my laptop's graphics card? If there are two, how can I find out which one is running?

lspci gives two interesting options (whole output is too large for one comment):
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09)
and
01:00.0 3D controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF117M [GeForce 610M/710M/810M/820M / GT 620M/625M/630M/720M] (rev a1)

So I cloned https://github.com/dmanning23/BulletMLLib
and I opened the solution on visual studios and tried to build it but I get an error

This project references NuGet package(s) that are missing on this computer. Enable NuGet Package Restore to download them. For more information, see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=322105. The missing file is C:\Users\xxx\Source\Repos\BulletMLLib\BulletMLTests\\.nuget\NuGet.targets. BulletMLTests C:\Users\xxx\Source\Repos\BulletMLLib\BulletMLTests\BulletMLTests.csproj 311

However following the link redirects me to http://docs.nuget.org/ and if I google it the solution recommends I remove the section NuGet section from the project which leads to tons of other errors if I do so.
How do I enable NuGet Package Restore?

I'm using Firefox for Android, and an annoying thing happens when I try to download large files using the download manager.
When the screen turns off automatically every two minutes, the download stops.

This means I have to keep the phone active as I'm downloading shit from Firefox.
Some of the files take an hour or more to download.

Does anybody know how to correct Firefox so as to not quit the download when the phone display turns off automatically?

I have an external WD hard drive that, from what I can tell, takes a 12v 2A DCin power cable. Lady at work lost the cable, found another and used it. New cable was a 16v 1.5A DCin power cable. She said that once she plugged it in, it started smoking and she immediately unplugged it. Now, I'm trying to use a 12v 1.5A power cable to test it, and it won't turn on. Is it not turning on because of the 1.5A, or did she fry it?

She fried it.
Take the hard drive out and try it in another enclosure.
>>
>>51411980
It's shot. Not so much because of the amps, but the volts. It would be fine to use a 12V 10A cable with a 12V 0.5A device. The device only draws what it needs. But overvolt it much and it'll fry.

Yeah, like the other guy said, rip it apart, take out the drive and hope it's a normal SATA or IDE drive you can stick into an enclosure or use internally.

I have a 2008 Mac Pro that does emulate MBR on GPT. Haven't had any issues at all with Windows 7 on it. Right now it has a drive with just an EFI partition with rEFIt in it, and a Windows partition. No OS X at all, that's on another drive that isn't in it right now.

Of course if the firmware was proper modern UEFI, I could boot Windows 8.1 or 10 in EFI mode and get quicker boot times. But as far as I can tell, that's about all the difference there is.

Go into the details tab and click the CPU header to sort it descending. Find out what the hog is. Given that Task Manager look, it's Windows 8, 8.1 or 10, so it's probably a background maintenance task that either fucks off when you use it or runs at a low priority. Or of course you have malware -- see the process list for what the hog is.

Also, given that task manager itself is using ~6%, I would say you probably have a pretty shitty CPU.

Why not do something more easily manageable? Like a beard.
Like the other anon said it's really hard to lose weight once you gain it because your fat cells don't really go away, they just get smaller.

There's also the issue of actually losing the weight is a very long and arduous progress despite what losing weight in one week looks like. Gaining 20 lbs is almost 2.5x easier than losing 20 lbs. After you lose water weight expect to lose 1-3 lbs a week at most unless you plan to do a lot of exercising and you're on a strict diet. I recommend against it. Aside from the obvious it's unhealthy lets talk about the fact that your 'prank' involves making yourself looking worse.

Buy a fatsuit like what they use in movies when they want a character fatter than the actor they're casting.

>I can always just lose the weight again later.

If they're the sort who leaves the password as "password", they're probably also the sort who would freak out about you "hacking" them, get the cops involved and charge you criminally.

On the other hand, if they're using a consumer router that has a shitty default password, they probably don't have any sort of logging set up or other way to figure out who it was.

>>51413218
Do the specs say anything more than that? If not, use CPU-Z to find out what you already have. You need to get the same type (DDR2 vs. DDR3, DIMM vs. SODIMM), and avoid exceeding the top size supported by the board. You should try to get at least as high a speed and at least as low a CL. All installed RAM will perform at the lowest speed and highest CL of any of the RAM installed, capped by the best supported by the motherboard.

in that case i'd keep rp and get noscript as well. it's both added security
>>
>>51413373
so to my original question though, you do seem to be implying that rp and ublock origin are needed together. what exactly do they do differently, if you dont mind explaining?

Won't Crucial's advisor tool tell you exactly which RAM would work?

Every time I optimize (trim) my ssd stuff acts weird for like a short amount of time after. Like I click on something in the start menu and it opens 10 seconds later. Then everything just goes back to being fast.
Is this normal?

in general yes, but :
I don't know about the CPU cooler.
Maybe the R9 390 can be a better option.
850W PSU is probably too much for this build (I didn't calculated it, but it should be between 500 and 650W I think), and bronze is fine if you want to save money.
And don't buy windows.

America. I took the drive out of the enclosure, gonna look for an enclosure tomorrow at work, or just add it to a desktop and scrape the data from it.

Is there any disadvantage to using low profile RAM?

I'm guessing it will run hotter because of the diminished heatsink but is it enough to cause concern?

Will be going to Canada in a few weeks. Should I be worried on bringing my external HDD's filled with pirated materials(movies, etc.) with me? Does the Canadian customs question/check the contents of HDD's and laptops? Does encrypting my files help at all?
>>
>>51413382
I don't use FF so I can't say for sure, but it looks like RP does about the same thing as ublock and noscript.
>>
>>51413530
I've run into zero problems with my low profile RAM, even running it OC'd

However, if you don't need the low profile nature of it for a CPU heatsink or something similar, you could just stick with regular profile and avoid any paranoia

What does motion interpolation do in BakaMPlayer? It doesn't appear to change anything.

I don't know about customs procedure but I highly doubt they would ever check your HDD or laptop unless they retain you for doing something illegal or be a suspect for illegal activity. Also as far as I know encryption or password protected content is treated much in the same way that a locked car trunk is. They can't open it without a warrant.

Thanks for the reply, I need it because the CM Hyper 212 is a fat piece of shit and the mobo I want only lets you install RAM in the 2&4 slots, or all 4 slots at once, for some reason.

>>51413544
Sometimes they do check HDDs. I don't know if they give a shit about piracy (how would they even know it was pirated?) but people have been arrested for bringing loli shit into Canada before so you'd better delete those Rustle and Noise doujins before you fly in.

The i5 4690k is a pure vertical upgrade on the 4670k, and it's also cheaper.

I was looking at building a new computer for gaymen (last one was in 2009) and was wondering if there was any reason to use a mid tower instead of something smaller. The main reason I hear is expansion but in my past 2 builds I've never had more than a graphics card, 1-2 sound cards just for the joystick ports (although I don't even have those anymore due to lack of drivers), 3 hard drives, a CD/DVD drive, and a floppy drive. No matter how much I've worried about it I've never gone to the extent of my computer I had in elementary school/middle school where I had almost every bus filled due to my computer consisting of old parts that I was able to scrape together.

Also, if you don't want to fuck around with pirating Windows, save yourself $70 and buy a key from here. https://www.reddit.com/r/microsoftsoftwareswap/

what's the loudest part of a computer?
case fans? psu fan? gpu, cpu fans?

i have a haf 922 and it's loud as shit. but it feels like all of my components are.
and it's hard to figure out which one is the loudest without pulling it apart and having only one thing on at a time.

I'm using an evo 212 for cpu fan and a gigabyte gtx 970 g1, so idk if either of those are known to be loud.
