How is Nvidia going to compete with the 380X? There will be no reason to get a 970 or 960 now, unless you're poor enough that 50 bucks is enough to consider the 960 over it.

Nvidia doesn't have to "compete". No one byus amd
>>
>>51406554
>How is Nvidia going to compete with the 380X?
If the 380X has high enough performance, nVidia can lower prices.
>>
The 970 is cheaper and has more or less the same performance and much better driver support.
>>
>>51406554
They'll just make a 960ti
>>
>>51406635
same performance? last i saw all the OCed 390 and 970 cards are more or less head to head. 380X is 20% slower than 390, so how is it supposed to pass the 970?
>>
>>51406637
I wanted to believe this for so long, but now I've realized that it'll never come.

I actually would've gotten it.
But now I'll wait for the next gen.

Maybe I'll give in and get a GTX 960.

Gigabyte's OC windforce version looks nice.
I just want to play Talos Principle on something that's not "low" due to my graphics card.
My CPU is set to "ultra" - i5 3570K.

Feels unbalanced, bro.

I'd like a complete overhaul on my build.
Compact case (like Lian-Li PC-Q35).
Mini-ITX, i7 6700T (low TDP version), 500GB SSD.

Should be a quiet build with decent performance that'll last me years.
Might be overkill on the CPU, but I don't really care all too much.

If I come into a decent enough job after my apprenticeship is done it shouldn't be any problem.

But that's still some 7 months away, things can change before that when it comes to computer hardware.
>>
>>51406767

if you live in the US you can get a 970 from evga b-stock for $250, it's a far better deal than a 960 as you can OC them to reference 980 performance
>>

There is a good chance that we will see 14/16nm in that time.

Best of luck in your quiet build!

Nvidia doesn't have to compete with the 380X
They own most of the market even at the sub $300 card level. The 380X will make a very small impact on their market share because 970s are going for sale for just a few dollars more now and the 960 is getting much cheaper than $200, down to $160 in some stores with a rebate.
>>
>>51411171
>crossfire
>SLI

I will never understand how people can accept microstuttering.
>>
>>51412069

So are 380s and 390s. You think AMD's competing cards wouldn't adjust to Nvidia's price decreases?

In either case, the 380x is likely to have a lukewarm launch in the US because of lowering prices for both sides. European markets don't enjoy the same discounts though, to my knowledge, at least, not nearly at the frequency and rate at which cards are currently going in the US. The 380x will be a godsend to them, in that case, especially with a higher value currency.
>>
>>51411171
>50% faster
But that's not how card scaling works.
Two 380s are able to beat a single 980 by only 10%. Two 380Xs are probably around 20-25% faster, or almost on par with a 980 Ti.

But the minimum frames and dips will be much lower than a single, stronger GPU.
>>
>>51412224

To my knowledge microstuttering is not an issue and has not been an issue for single monitor setups for years now. Multi-monitor setups might be a different story.
>>
>>51412271
>You think AMD's competing cards wouldn't adjust to Nvidia's price decreases?
If they could, AMD would have already done a price drop over a month ago in response to the 970's price drop. Same thing with the Fury and Fury X when the 980Ti prices dropped by about $30.
The thing is, AMD can't afford a price drop to move units because they'll barely be able to break even before their next generation of cards come out next year. Nvidia knows that and are pricing them out of the market. The 970 probably could be sold at $250 with no real financial reprocussions because of how many they've been able to sell. The AIB partners might not agree, but if it prevents AMD from stealing their market...
>>
Will it be even remotely good for 1440p?
>>
>>51412362
You're better off with a 970 for 1440p. A 390 is barely any better at $40 more, but a 380/X is barely enough for consistent 60FPS at that resolution.
>>
>>51406999
The 2gb 960's routinely go for about $150 brand new on ebay right now. They come with a warranty and everything. I don't see anything from AMD that can compete with the 960 at that price point.

Is this some new meme? 390 and 970 have been selling for around $310 for a while now. $300 with some good deals, but there is basically no price difference between them

Die size is almost identical so there is little to no difference in manufacturing cost.

Nope, MSI, Gigabyte, and EVGA 970s have been going for $279.99 recently, with other cards being put on a semi-permanent $20-30 price cut since October. That puts those cards at roughly $290-320.
The cheapest 390 I've seen was $289.99, but after a $15 rebate.
