Shilling the Xperia Z5/Z5 Premium Edition

Previous: >>51290463

A general thread to collect all of the smartphone purchase threads into one place. Try not to argue, and provide evidence for claims.

Suggestions to this general OP post are appreciated! (I basically tried to make it more "compact" than the previous thread in hopes to make it look more "clean")

First for Xperia Z5.
I'd get one but I have a Z3 running Marshmallow and getting 7+ hours SOT so Z5 seems too little of an improvement to justify spending that amount of money.
I'll wait for Z6, or Housefire 820 devices.

Question about the Xperia phones in general. Since they don't have their own physical home buttons like iPhone (lol) and Galaxy phones and that they're on the screen itself, I notice that it sort of "cuts off" a bit of the screen in comparison to the aforementioned phones, does that affect the display when viewing videos, playing games, etc. as well?

No.
Games, video apps and so on almost always run in fullscreen, which hides the status bar and the navigation bar.

Will Sony ever fix their shit image processing on their smartphones so that the autofocus actually works and that the images aren't filled with noise?

I've really been wanting to pick up the Z5 for christmas, but even though on paper it should have the best camera on the market it gets beaten by most other flagships out there. Images are either overexposed, filled with noise, or blurry around the edges or just not focused right. It baffles me how this is possible since they provide the camera module for the Iphone and the Galaxy series of phones, so theoretically Sony should at least be on par with those phones.
Not to mention that they have a fantastic camera division with cameras that produce great pictures, so why are their smartphones so shit? I have an Xperia Z, and I can see the same shit problems that my phone has in the Z5. How is this even possible?

My only answer to this is that they are deliberately fucking up the image processing in their phones in order to not intrude on their camera sales. And I don't think that even the japanese can be that stupid. Does anyone know if there are any plans for them to fix this shit?

I'm on Europe, so you have to add about 100 for import taxes and about 30 for shipping, I think.

I'm not so happy about Note5 not having replaceable battery and no microSD card.

Also, from what I could tell most Note 5s sell for at least 150 dollars more, if I take import/shipping charges into account too.

It would probably be that cheap if I were living in the USA.

I WAS talking about the software. I even mentioned that the camera modules in other brands are Sony, so I know they are good.

I really wish they would fix their act. I love their phones, but when their camera gets outdone by phones that are a year older, you know something is fucked.

I'm always updating pricing, ratings, and adding new devices.

I actually want to know if someone can give me advice on an idea I had.

One of the columns is the "GSM Arena Fan Count" which I have been updating for each phone manually whenever I happen to check. I want to know if there's some way for me to automatically assign a portion of the webpage's source to the cell so that number updates automatically.

look more memes with no proof to back it up.

How do you even do the math on that sort of calculation? Samsung have developed Flash storage, SoC designs, AMOLED screens are almost entirely being developed by samsung, etc.

How the fuck can you even try to start saying they spend more on marketing than developing the phones? They have been spending billions of dollars over the past decade+ on R&D for cellphone tech in general.
>>
>>51315161
gonna throw cm on the phone anyway. Like I said I'd prefer one with cm compatibility / support.

>>

>>
>>51315179
then why can't they make a fucking charging port that doesn't break when the user isn't retarded? why do they make mSD and SIM readers that break more often than other manufacturers? why do there AMOLEDs have burn-in and issues with colors? sure they supply their own parts because their a MEGA corporation, doesn't mean the parts they make had a ton of money spent on R&D considering the parts have roots from their monitors and TV division, and other departments for other parts, but not doesn't mean that they are the best because they made their own
>>
>>51315257
>5.5 inch screen

no thanks, that's too big imo.
>>
>>51315258
I'm not fucking saying they are the best, but they don't spend more on marketing than designing the phone.

Also you have no proof their shit breaks more often. If anything, samsung has a larger market share than any other android manufacturer, simple math would tell you that of course more samsung phones would end up breaking, more of them exist.

Also, the issue with AMOLED is samsung is the one CREATING the technology, you want them to make it better? They are spending billions of dollars doing just that, and they have improved significantly, just look at the S6 and note5, the note5 has the current best display ever tested by display mate for color accuracy, grey scale, color uniformity, color gamut, etc etc.

And just because their screen tech has roots in TVs doesn't magically mean screen tech is super cheap to develop for them. It's still hundreds of millions of dollars.

Also, the charging port issue is true for almost all phones because the micro-usb spec is a fucking standardized specification.

USB-C connections should be getting mainstream starting in 2016, so get over it.

tldr
you're a fucking idiot.

Best camera currently is the S6 camera. But it is way out of your price range and also has no removable battery, no mSD card, and no ASOP ROM support.

Next would be the LG G4, but it is a bit out of your price range at closer to $400-450, but it has removable battery, mSD card, a bit lacking in ROM support, but the LG UI is decent enough.

For decent camera though, you have to generally spend more than $300.

Verizon likes to piss all over companies to the point that many refuse to offer phones on their network, and they rely on huge super long contracts to even keep carriers making decent phones for Verizon

Fine with me. They're decent.

I'll personally likely go with Xiaomi again for my next phone (once I decide to get it), still very, very good deals on that brand - they deserve their reputation.

And I kinda want a PDAF camera.

It's too bad Nexus phones are never the best in any one category, except for the OS experience.

They never have the best android camera, storage, CPU, GPU, build quality :(

2013-2014 Motorola was pretty damn good, but even their cameras weren't top tier.

I just hope the Galaxy S7 has SD card/removable battery, and they continue to slim down touchwiz

Yeah that's kind of disappointing to hear, the Z5 sounds like the near perfect phone atm what with it's design, display, near stock Android, additional storage (and a spot to put lanyards/cell phone charms) but after watching this video, I was a bit disappointed.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-Yxha0-I10

Hopefully it's as you guys said and that the camera can be fixed/updated via software updates since I really am fixed on the Z5 Premium at the moment.

>>
>>51317838
The camera is actually really good though.
>>
>>51317834
Agreed. I totally agree. At least you can root Samsung phones - that way you can get rid of app bloat, and now touchwiz has a great theme engine. AdAway helps with that as well.
>>
>>51317850
Money isn't important here. I just want a 5.7in phone with a nice screen and support for 128gb sd card that doesn't look autistic like a nexus 6 or other similar edgy phones like a Samsung note or the stupid buttons on the back lg

The A3 has better performance than the S4 Mini for the same price, and better build.

And it's 4.5"

I'm upgrading from a Lumia 520 anyway, so any phone at this price will probably be enough.

If that happens, flash the current ROM from en.miui.com on your phone.

Actually do that on receiving the phone.

I was browsing 4chan on Clover today on bus and screen just went black suddenly, I thought phone got hanged so I removed the battery to reset the phone. It now turns on, capacitive buttons light up and can answer calls but screen won't light up. Tried couple of tricks but they don't work so I was wondering if it's a software issue or just the backlight.

Fair point. Problems have been popping up, some more publicized than others. I've never had a broken phone in all my years of owning one. From my flip phone, to Palm Centro, to HTC hero, to iPhone 4s, to Galaxy S4, to iPhone 6S+, and now the 6P... This being the case I'd like to think I'm careful with my phones and that I am also somewhat lucky. Again, I'm not too worried.
