You just have to figure out what is more important to you. If all you need to do if check your email, chromebooks are all you'd ever need. If you need to do anything even partially intensive, don't buy a Chromebook.
We also have to compare these by screen sizes etc.. a T420 would destroy any 14" chromebook. Hell, an X220 with a small SSD would destroy any chromebook around 12.5" in every way. They're just as light and cost the same. The resolution is just barely acceptable for a 12.5", though. Oh well, though. You're a moron to use 1920x1080 on a fucking 11.6" or even a 13.3" anyway.
