>Had usb network adapter for desktop
>was over 3 years old and was cutting out but had full bars
>buy new internal network adapter n900 (pic related)

I only get 1 fucking bar and I have a n900 router

How does this make any sense? The new internal has an extra 150mbps and an extra antenna compared to the old usb one

Thanks in advance

Shielding

USB3 shit spewing EMI all over the whole fucking spectrum (literally)

Some are just shitty though. I have a couple that though signal is 4 bars I may get half bandwidth with it even on the WAN
>>
For $30 buckeroos I got Ethernet over power line adapters and never looked back.
>>
>using a wireless in a desktop
you better be piggybacking on someone else's wifi or otherwise don't have access to the router or switch to run your own damn cat6
>>
literally ask your parents for permission to run cable

aww shit, just ordered that pci wifi, like 15min ago
>>
>>51272559
So is there any fix to this like what the fuck?

And I'm using my desktop downstairs my router is upstairs. Yes I live at home
>>
Is ethernet through PowerLine difficult to set up?

I just feel stupid af for spending $40 on something that didn't benefit me whatsoever
>>
>>51272522
Get yourself an antenna extension cable, then make sure the antenna is high up and in a spot with good signal. Use "inssider" to check for signal strength in real time with numbers.
>>
The only wifi adapters worth buying right now are the intel 726x ones if you need half-height mPCIe or M.2, and QCA9880-based ones for full-height mPCIe or use in a desktop.
>>
>>51272573
lool this. does this nigga even?
>>
questions:
are other wireless devices slow in the same spot as this card?
what wireless channels are in use?
what channel are you using on your access point?
are you fucking new? or what?
>>
>>51272684
you have to spend $100+ to get a cable that length that won't be lossy as fuck @2.4ghz. 9M are you fucking retarded?
>>
>>51272522
make sure the antennae are tightly connected
try changing the PC's position. the pc itself could be blocking wifi signal.
>>
>>51272872
The reviews seem ok here and its cheap http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-LINK-TL-ANT24EC5S-Antenna-Extension-Cable/dp/B001BSK3NO
>>
>>51272522
>>51272599
that adapter is supposed to be really good.
>>
>>51272684
op would have to do this for 3 antennas
R U NUTZ?
>>
>>51272939
One should be enough.
>>
>>51272970
yeah, for N300 speed.
>>
>>51273053
You mean 150.
It's 150 per spatial stream.

gay retard kill yourself immediately tier:

rewire tier:
10BASE5 over coax or some shit

more money than sense tier:

cat6 (yeah i said it come at me)
>>

100ft of cat6 cost me <$20
>>
>>51273143
cat6 isn't that expensive you goddamn goofball. buy a spool for dirt at regular-ass home depot or some shit.

properly.
>>
>>51272578
Ha this!
>>
>>51273276
yeah, it cost me like $15 at chink shop down the road. shit's flawless.
>>
>>51273265
i cabled my house long before cat6 was common.
never had a real problem with my network, backup servers are dual link 1000, comes nowhere close to saturating
if i was doing it now i would probably go for cat6 but just for bragging, not because its necessary.
if you think wifi is acceptable for fixed assets then i don't think it matters

OM3 fiber isnt expensive, pic related with Intel SFP+es

ASUS PC-68E or whatever is fantastic with it's extension line and antenna set up.

I bought 3" 24" 12db antennas and put it on the base.
>>
Op here

What is my best option guys? Should I try the PowerLine shit because running a cat5 is a no go

yeah jumpers are one thing.
justify a termination kit for custom lengths to terminals for a home user.

>>51273348
a little bot thats says all the wires are connected or a proper tester that tells you all the losses and measures crosstalk up to the rated frequency?
or do you just slap cables together and assume the connections are faultless because it works?

5e needs to handle 100MHz, 6a is 500MHz. the higher you go the better the connection needs to be. 5e you can pretty much bodge together for 10/100, you wont get 10G out of 6a unless you know what you are doing
>>
>>51273498
>justify a termination kit for custom lengths to terminals for a home user.
Very few people ever do this. In all the places I've worked at, the only time we had cables made to length where when we had runs from our MDF rack to IDF rooms.
>>
>>51273498
i get the download speeds matching my cable provider consistently and i don't test for crosstalk or take anything further than that because i'm not a complete autist that needs to jack off to his own fermented ass-stink and ultra-super-mega home/enterprise/betafaggotloser network.
>>
>>51273577
And /g/ once again confirms that the number of people here who have experience in a data center can be counted on one hand.
>>
>>51273529
>Very few people ever do this
no shit!
tracking a fibre along a cable tray between cabinets is one thing, i wouldn't pull a terminated cable through a wall in a house and i wouldn't be happy with the fucking weird 'insulation' on them doing that either.
>>
>>51273601
i tried to convince my father there was a difference between cat5e and cat6e

i hope to god he listened when constructing his new home - not exactly on speaking terms with him right now ...
>>
>>51273577
why did you buy 'cat6' then you doink.

i'm sorry, if my cables don't have bridged pins and match up at both connectors, and provide me with my isp's speeds (150 mbps) what's the fucking problem? if i was running a SAN or something i might test my cables a little further.. but that's really all there is to it. i'm also very impressed with your experience
>>
>>51272522
depends a LOT on the position of the antennas. do as >>51272883 says, move the computer. wifi signals seems to be very sensitive to this.
>>
>>51273577
>buy cheap shitty 'cat6' from china
>cable is not up to spec, fails cat6 but also cat5 standards
>people wonder why networks are shit and laggy
>test cables, find out whole install is basically scrap, needs to be redone from scratch
doesn't really bother me anon
>>
>>51273681
Literally have 4 monitor cords and speakers cords taped to the back of desk making my computer stationary. I regret this immediately
>>
CAT6

If not this... you need to align your rubber duck antennae with the internal ones of the router, can more than double your signal and if its 2 or 3 stream you might get lucky enough to boost throughput by a lot.
>>
>>51273716
>buy enterprise cables from the finest supplier of the finest supplier
>costs $1.50 per foot, it's expensive so it must be good
>plug directly into my urethra
>getting 975mHz
>can't wait to connect to my bonded fiber optic bridge and download 500TB fake nudes of dwayne johnson
>>
OP, if you're like me and you can't run a cable to your router/modem for a variety of reasons then get a cheap or mid tier router , install dd-wrt on it , and make it a signal repeater. Then wire directly into your repeater and let it connect to your router. Much better speeds than any wireless card you're gonna get for a similar price. I took my mother in laws old router and it blew the card I had bought away.
>>
>>51274286
>make it a signal repeater. Then wire directly into your repeater and let it connect to your router.
that would be a bridge, not a repeater

Half the threads doesn't even belong on the board, the rest could fuck off back to /v/.
We really need an enterprise version of /g/.
>>
>>51272522
>2015
>not powerline ethernet

bonus points is it makes a soft buzz sound when you're downloading large files so you can tell when the botnet is spying on you
>>
>>51275203
get keystone jacks, low voltage one or two gang boxes for each end of every run you plan, get a multiple keystone jack plate for the router/switch side get one with more ports than you need now

get the punch down version of the actual jacks you can get away with the kind that snapped and pushed the wires through the terminations on the jack, stay the fuck away from the ones that you screw the connections together like old phone jacks, you'll never meet spec and get a ton of NEXT

use pumpkin cuts to go through the floor

use a weight on the end of a string to make fishing easier, tape the end of the string to the cable, and pull it, pull another string with the cable, keep it taped near the end of each cable run, label each run or at least color code it so you know which run goes where
>>
i got pissed with my broken ass wifi adapter and just ran cables

10/10 would never go back
