I'm saving up to get my Mom and my Grandma an Apple Watch for Christmas. Before you say anything, they both use iPhones and iPads for Work. Is this a good idea? Would it be beneficial to them?

The apple watch is pretty shit. And not even as a "hurr all apple stuff sucks!" its just bad as a general apple product.
Its really laggy, has awful battery life, is pointlessly expensive, and doesn't really do anything. If you need a fitness companion then there's much cheaper fitness bands that work better than the iWatch.

Look into pebble time. 1/3 price, same basic stuff, but battery lasts a week instead 16 hours. But I agree with >>51259210 for old people it is just too confusing what the fuck a smart watch is for. Namely read notifications without pulling out your phone. Really that is the number 1 benefit, and it's pretty nice. Also: weather at a glance. If you like to know the temperature, God it's awesome
For that price you can buy something that will actually have a meaningful impact on their life

It barely has any functionality and that that it does have is poorly implemented. My Mom pretty much said she would love one, but would never purchase one herself. My Grandma said if she had one, she would use it every day. I also know a guy who got one and he said it's a pretty good idea. And to all the people in the Thread who said it's a good Notification Center and is useful for stuff like the Weather, that's pretty much what I'm looking for, and the Holiday Season gives me a reason to splurge on something like that.

my mom found hers pretty useful, it gives her alerts and such, im not sure what she really uses it for but she enjoys it, and she has her phone out much less often now. She also lost about 25 pounds since owning it because she tries to keep up her fitness goals every day.
I think the apple watch was made to showcase their weird pressure-sensitive touch technology, which apple might put in the next iphone. Its a cool little gadget, not particularly useful, but for what it does its still a cool thing to own.
If both of them use apple products on a regular basis, the watch will be very enjoyable for them.
