I deactivated my account roughly a year ago and never looked back.
The one thing I missed was the hypothetical "bond" with a girl that in my mind I would have dated one day. I let these thoughts go, and I'm not really sad about that. Maybe one day we'll meet again, but a "friendship" on a website in the meantime means nothing.
Besides that... Keeping in touch with people you don't see everyday, is it really worth it?
I came to realize that it is a lot more important to spend time with people around you right now and form strong bonds than to get likes and shit.
Comparing myself to last-year-myself, I now have a stable relationship with my girlfriend, my grades are better and I am not annoyed by advertising and people-i-dont-really-like.
Seriously guys, fuck Facebook.
It's just... not worth it. The amount of time wasted, the advertising, the total access to my private data, my conversation, my stuff.
And... "check your privilege". Lol, I mean: please go read the terms of service. By accepting the terms of the service and joining facebook, you grant facebook a perpetual and unlimited license on pretty much everything in your account.
