There ain't such a thing. Common Sense all the way.

Avast sucks. I used to work repairs and my boss insisted on putting it on all of our clients machines. On more than one circumstance I was working on a computer that was obviously fucked with viruses and Avast had no idea.

You could maybe argue that it is good for preventing the user from getting a virus in the first place with its annoying ass pop ups. These users probably ignored its warnings fucked themselves in the process but still, then you are back in the realm of common sense. A dumb shit is going to get the virus anyway. If Avast can't at least get rid of it then what is the point?

I've been using ESS for years; no problems, ever. Lately it started being a faggot after I switched between a proxy internet in the campus and my home internet. Firewall is all fucked up, it blocks my wifi hotspot for some reason and doesnt let me play lol. I want to change it and I'm looking for something with the same user/pass system or maybe something that can be cracked, because no moneys.

I have literally never browsed r9k for any frequent amount of time, normals are still a thing, and they still need to get the fuck out.

Maybe OP is asking for a relative or something. I heard some Colleges in burgerland force you to use antivirus in order to use the College's network.

Most of /g/ uses Windows. This has been show by the multiple strawpolls made asking 'what OS are you using'.
>>
>>51243696
he was obviously meme'ing
>>
>>51241585

I used to use it but it got really annoying with ads for other products. They added to much new stuff to it and ruined the interface. It also thought one of the battlefield 1942 expansions was a virus and ruined my game file and I'm not going through putting all 6 discs back in to install again. This is after years use and I was actually going to donate when my time to renew came around again. It was the only antivirus I liked until it died.
>>
>>51241585
it never was.

>>51241585
outside of kaspersky, still the most convenient and performant one available.

>>51242942
>not using it in silent mode all the time.

PS: image says a certain number of days, but that's because I uninstalled it to try out various AV solutions and found none of them as satisfactory.
>>
>>51243258
Bitdefender holds downloads till the entire thing is transferred before informing the program doing the download that data has arrived.

This becomes a problem in gigabyte-sized downloads in browsers.
>>
>>51243258
>>51244533
addendum: unfortunately, it also appears to not like torrents, frequently locking up both the AV and the torrent client and slowly stalls everything till a proper shutdown becomes impossible
>>
>>51243928
see
>>51244504

just set it to silent and feel safer.

you still have to be careful, but it does catch the errant POS software.

also, disable HTTPS scanning, it scans things as they enter the filesystem anyway.

also, enable PUP detection, to also nab some adware and toolbarware bullshit.

everything ends up in the vault, so silent works great.
>>
>>51241585
Avast has some issues. Namely, every once in a while, it'll freak out and say the compilers installed on my machine are probably a virus.
also, it seems to have been flagging the Chocolate Doom source port website as a malicious URL for the last year or so for no reason, which is completely retarded

>>51243012
mail shield scans mail (eg, if you're using a mail client and not webmail)
secure line is Avast's VPN service
>>
>>51241585
Make sure to use it on windows 10â„¢ for ultimate botnet experience.

BitDefender is the best.
Kaspersky is the second best.

The results are based on actual real-world tests, and not some random anon's opinion.

bitdefender is shit I've tried using it 2 different times before and it's not usable

I used Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 recently while cleaning a computer and it cleared everything on the computer and all my recovery tools on my USB because they was potential threats, I spent weeks looking for all of that software and it calculated to 2GB, took a while to copy them but it was beautiful, I don't use it because of that reason.

From reading all of people's responses, I can't come up to a conclusion to which is the best free antivirus to use, can someone help on this? I use avast for 5 years now, I had no problems with it, but which antivirus is the best?
>>
Avast is bad in my experience.

I experienced many false positives, high memory and cpu usage as well it's a fucking botnet.

Uninstall that shit and use some commonsense .

if you want privacy go with 36 total securtiy and they are light weight antivirus instead of bloat and bot net. But if you don't care about bot net use avast still they, are the best antivirus. But becareful which antivrus you do download, they have been caught making viruses.
>>
>>51243258
BitDefender is botnet.
When I was using it, there was always a connection to an IP in the USA every time I clicked on the start menu. It disappeared from peerblock after I uninstalled it.
>>
>>51252117
360 my bad

Nope. Bitdefender, Avira, and Panda are all better performers in the free AV category.

I honestly don't even use antivirus on my windows install. All I use windows for is gaming and programs that are OS dependant. Just use MBAM and ccleaner. For others I usually give them AVG or Avast!

Add others have already said, common sense b is the best defense there is.
