My question:

What happens when I use libraries that are of different license? For example, if one function call that I use belongs to a LGPL license, and another function call that I use in the same file belongs to a MIT license, then what license holds??? The code will be pushed to Github.

Whenever I torrent something that isn't anime, qBittorrent gives me a BSDO with the error being PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA.
I have the pagefile disabled, but I have ran into the problem with it enabled or disabled.
I've never even come close to using up all 16GB of my RAM.
I have thoroughly checked my HDD, nothing has ever found any errors with it.

What the fuck do I do?

Will I be ok playing games in ultra for a few years with a GTX970? (I currently have an I72600k and 24 g ram, Asus P8H67)

What's a good alternative to Popcorn time?
>>
>>51224838
It's most likely a faulty RAM stick causing you that issue. If not, then it's a bad power supply making the RAM behave oddly.

That still doesn't explain why it doesn't affect downloading anime, but thanks.

why does YouCompleteMe and Vim give me this error, while everything compiles fine and i'm using the library correct?
called object type 'DenseVector' (aka 'int') is not a function or function pointer
>>
>>51224983
Really? My understanding was that pagefile was essentially just part of the HDD that Windows considers to be RAM, so it's unnecessary if you have a reasonable amount of RAM.
>>
>>51224980
Try replacing the RAM first (or running memtest), if that doesn't solve it then maybe look into the voltages (perhaps with a multimeter, or from BIOS/software tool).

Actually, let me ask you this: Have you overclocked your CPU or RAM?

Alright i'm going to try to word this in a way that makes sense. A few days ago I moved my computer from my monitor to my tv in the living room to play some games on the big screen and when I connected it to the tv it wouldn't go passed the initial bios menu (MSI Z97M Gaming Mobo)

So I connected it back to my monitor and turned it on again, same problem and when I boot into the bios the screen is completely corrupted I can move about some menus but others won't load at all. Is there anything I can do to fix this or would I have to purchase a new motherboard? Thanks anons.

I have a hotmail mail account that I use for registering on sites to avoid spam etc, so no personal information. Today I got the message from microsoft that another person might have accessed said mail account. I had to make a new password etc. After that I checked my recent activity and there were 2 failed login attempts from china near Fuzhou. Going back in the recent activity, I can see that there are multiple login attempts every week, all with the wrong password, all from china.

So my question is: Am I keylogged and the chink is too stupid to find the right password, or is he just trying to brutforce it?

I've run out of space on my 2TB HDD and need a new hard drive to add to my system. I'm having trouble deciding between getting a 2TB or a 4TB.

One thing that concerns me about getting a 4TB drive is the increased power usage over 2TB. Does anyone have any idea how much extra power a 4TB drive uses over a 2TB one? Also, how much power do hard drives use in general? Is it anything worth worrying about or is it fairly insignificant? My electricity bill is a major factor in my decision.

yes, it doesn't matter after all, you'll be able to install the programs you want etc. Don't use arch or gentoo since they need some time to set up. Avoid debian maybe if you don't want to bother including non-free repos and installing the drivers for your wifi.

I once got my foot stuck in a German Shepard who was going to town on another dog, now I was wearing working shoes with steel tips so I was perfectly safe but as soon as the Shepard got hold of my foot as I tried to kick it off of the other dog, I felt this almost mechanical pressure on my fucking foot RIGHT THROUGH THE FUCKING STEEL. Grabbed a broom, broke it over the dog's head, NO REACTION. My foot was stuck in there for about a minute, dog refused to let go but at least it meant it wasn't chewing on the other dog.

>>51226932
It's possible that someone is intercepting your connection and handing off a counterfeit instead of the real Google to get your information. This is more likely if you're using a proxy or VPN.

Though I'd say that 90% it's just Avast freaking out because the certificate changed or your clock is set incorrectly, or your browser has an outdated certificate, or any number of legitimate and innocuous reasons. So I wouldn't worry that much about it, just be cautious and I'd avoid logging in for now if you can until you can verify the authenticity of the certificate.

This is really stupid and I don't really understand how I don't know it, but why does software that I've unzipped instead of using and installer not show up on the installed programs list? Isn't the software on the computer in the same way as it would be when using an installer?
>>
>>51226999
Because the installer is what puts the program in that list. Unzipping something only puts the files somewhere, it doesn't change the registry or register the program on the installed list or anything.
>>
>>51227005
Thank you for the quick answer. How difficult is it to do both of those things you mentioned?
>>
>>51227040
Well there's free software out there that can create your own installer, which would probably suffice to get it on the list of installed programs and make an uninstaller and whatnot. I don't see much benefit to doing so, though. I prefer just keeping such programs in a single easy to remember location and just deleting them if I don't need them anymore.

If you're using a VPN or proxy and notice someone is trying to forge a certificate, then stop using it. Otherwise just keep an eye on the certificates for secure sites you need to use (usually will show a green bar or icon to verify them that can be clicked to show additional information to verify the identity) as long as the certificate is valid then you can pretty much rest assured that the page being sent is valid and nobody is intercepting the connection.

What do you mean by "sources of bandwidth"? You mean piggybacking multiple ISPs into a single transaction, for example tethering off your phone or something? I guess in theory it would be possible, but it'd be easier to just download part of the file on your computer and the other part on your phone and try to meet up in the middle somehow (though might be a bit tricky to manage, but easier than trying to combine them into a single input pipe somehow)

If you just mean throttling all the other shit your computer is doing so your download will go as fast as possible off a single ISP, that should be easily enough to do manually. Most background processes don't consume a hell of a lot of bandwidth, if you're torrenting or have Steam doing background downloads then pause them.

Is there an easy way to clean a microfiber cloth well enough that it will wipe off smudges as well as it did when it was new?

Lately my tendency has been to just buy bulk packs of them and throw them out after a week or so, since after about that long they just don't do a good job of wiping my glasses any more... It does feel wasteful to just throw them away though, even if they're not all that expensive.
>>
>>51227201
These clothes smudge my glasses more than they clean them.
I usually just rinse them under flowing water.

>>
>>51227216
In the past I'd clean them in the sink with a small pinch of detergent, then make a makeshift clothesline with some dental floss strung up between my bed and desk to dry them. It worked ok, but it seems easier and more effective to just buy new ones when they get dirty.

It seems to me like they clean really well the first few days but then quickly lose effectiveness as they absorb oils from my hand or glasses. It helps to only touch one side of it and use the other to wipe the glasses, so you're not wiping on the side your hand touched.

Also some cloths seem to wipe better than others. http://www.amazon.com/MagicFiber-Microfiber-Cleaning-Screens-Glasses/dp/B0050R67U0/ are my current favorites, a 30 pack of these will usually last me from 8 months to a year depending on how often I rotate them out. (Usually I have one for my glasses, one for my computer monitor/phone/other various screens, one for my tablet that sits near my bed, and when I open a new one I just move each one down the line and then toss the old tablet one in the trash.)

I did mean I'm cleaning the glasses under water, not the clothes, sorry.
I'll just rinse them off with some glass cleaner under warm water first, then put the flow on very small and let really hot water flow over the glasses slowly.
The water evaporates on its own and you get no watermark spots.
>>

I've tried that before with cold water but it always left spots. Hot water might work better though I'd worry about damaging the coatings on the lens.

If you were sent a thousand years back in time with only your trusty pocket USB stick, could you somehow get all the information off it so you can build your own technological empire and take over the world?

Like, say you have the most brilliant minds of the time helping you and understand the protocols involved perfectly, could you somehow jury-rig something to copy the shit off it? Or is it impossible without modern computers?
>>
>>51227392
Oh, also assume the information is stored in uncompressed ASCII plaintext, so no complex decoding would need to take place here.
>>
>>51227392
the 'easiest' way to get the data from it would probably be to;
1. decap the flash chip(s)
2. make a microscope and literally optically view and copy the bits
>>51227420
3. it's simple enough to translate ASCII bits into text by hand, even if you don't remember it it would take little time to shift through until you at least get a-z correct

now i've only actually read about people doing this with mask rom, so i don't know if the same can be done with flash rom, but if it can this would be much easier than trying to interface with the drive 'conventionally' (via USB)
>>
>>51227452
Don't you need an electron microscope to get near the resolution required?
>>
>>51227468
probably, but considering they've been around much longer than high-speed digital electronics, you'll probably have an easier time making one of those than getting to the point of reading a usb drive normally

as a funny side note, the controller in your flash drive would literally be the fastest computer to exist for hundreds of years
>>
>>51227500
Yeah, I kind of envisioned some kind of weird mechanical appliance with a wire and a pen slowly mimicking the proper signals and transcribing the bits, don't know if such a thing would actually be possible though, not sure how complex the process of actually reading a USB stick is on the computer side.
>>

afaik, to communicate with usb you'd need the machine to operate at the same/expected frequency (usb 1.1 low speed is 1.5Mbit/s at 1bit since it's serial, even that's 1.5MHz)

maybe you could lower it by changing the clock crystal in the flash drive (if it's not integrated) to something slower, but i'm not sure, and it probably still wouldn't function anything close to "by-hand" speeds

>>51227623
Ah yeah, that's a bit of a stretch for some halfassed mechanical device t hen.

I bought a Samson Q7 Microphone about a year ago and a USB cord to go with it, but whenever I record it with windows, there's very noticeable noise/static.

I understand how to remove that easily with Audacity, but what about for games and skype calls? I tried getting this program called Mumble (which is similar to teamspeak i think), and when I was testing the levels in the setup wizard, it was perfect and there was no noise, but it says some shit about connecting to a server before I can record, so I doubt I can use it for games/skype.

It's a Linux distribution that mostly compiles software from the source code, instead of just installing pre-compiled binaries.
Compiling is a pretty CPU-intensive and often long task, but allows for better compiler optimisations and more advanced configuration, up to just excluding entire chunks of code that govern features you don't want.

It's not defined specifically I don't think.

What I understand from it is that as much as possible is distributed as source and compiled locally.

Sorcerer Linux installs a small iso on your system, downloads all the latest sources, recompiles and then installs the locally compiled binaries.

I've had my computer for two years now, and ever since I first built it, my computer has always froze randomly and requires me to restart it by holding down the power button.
Mouse and keyboard will just stop responding, and if there's a sound playing it'll just repeat indefinitely. No error messages, nothing in the event viewer (besides some kernel power related issue which im guessing is just from turning the power off without shutting down properly).

I really need help guys, I want to solve this so it's not constantly playing on my mind. I don't even know where to start looking, after constantly googling it seems as if everything is a suspect.

My friend keeps telling me to reapply thermal paste, and I know I should however the computer will crash even when it's idle.

I had the same problem with a 2500k and asus p8z68-v

I ran memtest86+ a few times (which also froze, but only after 13+ successful tests) so I assumed it was either a cpu or mobo issue, and because there was a lack of z68/z75/z77 mobos at an affordable price I just bought a new cpu + mobo + ram as I went for ddr4

if you have the option, either try a different mobo or a different cpu and that should narrow it down to either a cpu or mobo specific issue, it could still be a memory/psu issue but memtest86+ should rule out memory (if you do it properly, I didn't do the strictest anal tests but I also didn't want to spend over a day doing it)

fwiw I did overclock but I never ran it on an absurdly high voltages (afaik I didn't go above 1.25v for instance) or temps and it was very infrequent, maybe a dozen times for less than a day each time

Now I went to logicalincrements.com and to pcpartpicker.com to see what I could do. I aimed for "Superb" on the logical site and went to pcpicker to try and set up things to see if things would work. Unfortunately there were some odd questions at the bottom of the list

and the one I'm most worried about

No blue screen or anything just straight power loss. No issues in linux it'll run for hours.

I'm thinking it's the hard drive as it's a recycle from an old University computer but all the checks I have run on it say it's perfectly healthy.

Any ideas?

it literally fucking says it's a powershell script in the title of the tab

if you don't know how to run a powershell script you probably shouldn't run that at all as you have zero way of auditing it

>>51230446

just fresh install whatever you have now then upgrade

>>51230328

force encryption both ways, google it

>>51230264

it's fine, just don't go waving strong magnets over your harddrive and it'll be fine

most screwdrivers barely have enough magnetic force to lift a <1g screw, nevermind do any significant harm to magnetic sensitive devices (primarily crt monitors)

>>51230199

if it's a font issue: custom fonts are disabled through noscript (by default) because they're a possible attack vector, if you want them appear then click the noscript logo then go to blocked objects then allow FONT@whatever

>>51229507

I had a similar issue where windows would just freeze and lockup, and eventually reboot or required holding the power button to reset, and didn't have those issues on linux for a few months

it could be a hardware issue and linux could be less prone to it due to differences in config on how it manages power stuff

>>51229433
>I have no idea what to do if that were the case, for the last issue

if you have a problem, you send the motherboard back to the seller or the manufacturer and they update the firmware for you, or you find someone who has a compatible cpu and you flash the firmware that way

as for the case usb issue: the usb 2.0 plugs will need to be plugged into a 2.0 header most likely, it's a non-issue

as for the case/gfx card size issue: amd or whatever card manufacturer you have will list the size of the graphics card, and the case manufacturer should list the maximum graphics card size, if not just google the card and the case

so my 3570k intel gpu is not showing anything on the screen, sold my dedicated graphics card and trying to get tihs to work

>removed battery multiple times and waited 5-15mins couple of times
>did the clear CMOS jumper thing for multiple times, waited 5-15mins
>did both together and waited 5mins or so

no image on my display, any more suggestions?

I need to buy a laptop that runs OBD2 car computer reading software.

So I don't imagine it needs to be too powerful, but I was wondering if anyone knew of any.

Would like it to be very sturdy as it will be in a tough environment. Along with that is there any case or protective screen that I could purchase with it?

Lastly I need to make sure it can run the software. Anyone know of good deals or where I can get some protective cases for laptops? (fingers will most likely be dirty)

Thank you, and good night.

your motherboard manufacturer may have specific instructions to resolve it

>>51231076

your best bet is a toughbook or something, they aren't cheap however as they're designed for heavy industrial environments

I have the opportunity to purchase up to 10 1TB 7200rpm OEM drives from my company's dell inspiron systems that were upgraded with SSDs almost immediately after purchase at £20 each.

I've wanted to build my own archive storage / owncloud for some time now. is it worth it?

TLDR; 1TB 7200rpm drives are cheap for me. How many to buy, is it cost effective to set up an own cloud system?
>>
>>51231110
Yea, those are pretty pricy. Can't afford that, thanks for the reply though.
>>
>>51231190

that's a decent price for 1tb drives and having 10 means you can do some fast raid setups, I'd say go for it
>>
>>51231250
I won't be buying 10 I don't think. maybe 5-6.

I'm thinking a raid 5 setup. How the fuck do I start with building one?

Do I need a low power PC, or will some sort of networked sata hub do the trick?
>>
>>51231288

don't use raid 5, the problem with raid 5 is that by the time one disk starts failing they all tend to fail so if you don't replace the disk immediately you risk losing the data for good, or what tends to happen is another disk will fail while rebuilding the array

you could raid 6, but a better option would just be to raid 1+0 and accept that you're going to lose a shit ton of data in exchange for decent redundancy

How in the hell do I add Steam to TInywall's execution list

I've whitelisted the window, the processes and the executable already

I have literally spent hours googling this. How do I get 2.0 speakers and a separate subwoofer (speakers plugged into audio out and sub plugged into c/sub out) to work properly? I need to disable to nonexistent centre speaker but it causes sounds e.g. in a game to not play because they are often routed through a centre speaker.

If I don't have a static-proof bag for a spare hard drive, will it be fine by itself for a while? Should I give it a shoe box or a baggie or something?
>>
>>51231358
>accept that you're going to lose a shit ton of data in exchange for decent redundancy
As in lose shit ton of data capacity for decent redundancy right?

Like I'd literally lose 50% of capacity right?
>>
>>51231487
sounds like a setting on the speakers themselves. Does it have a remote or a way to change settings?

if 2.0 do you mean bluetooth or usb? Is it wired if usb or is it transmitted via a dongle?

Got a 50 dollar best buy gift card, should i get the cheapest ssd they have (sandisk ssd plus) or just save it? Im running a 7200rpm 1tb HDD atm which is torturous.

Just installed lubuntu, which driver is the best for a 7600GT?

The one I have now supports only 1024x768 which is lower than my monitor.

Been searching all over the place and I can't find any solutions that actually work.

I want to set up a fresh linux mint install that has full disk encryption and will boot with a USB flash drive with the keyfile. Having the LUKS header on the flash drive would be a bonus, but I'm not even sure if that's possible, or if the LUKS header HAS to be on the disk that's encrypted

>>51224504
dust might settle in it, damaging the unit. I'd avoid using it, and be certain to blow all dust out of it (though you might not even be able to if you don't have access to a low dust environment

>>51225068
move your monitor into your TV room and debug with two monitors (boot with only the monitor connected, then connect TV when Windows has booted)

>>51225621
sounds like a driver issue. I can't remember how to figure out what drivers you're using on linux mint, but try it out with a USB dongle if you have one.

I'm talking about a computer, running Windows 10. The audio managers (both the built-in Realtek software and my mobo's Asus software) don't allow for a 2.1 setup, just quadraphonic, 2.0, 5.1, and 7.1. In order for anything to play through the sub, I need to have 5.1 or 7.1. Then I need to swap the centre and sub outputs in the software, since otherwise my sub will play the sounds meant for the centre speaker, which would defeat the point of having a dedicated sub at all. But once I do this, the centre sounds have nowhere to go, and I end up with a lot of missing audio in games and otherwise. But since the sub and centre outputs are combined into one plug, I can't really see any way of fixing this other than some kind of software that completely lets you modify what sounds go where.

I'm thinking about shrinking down into mATX or Mini ITX and I've narrowed it down to 2 cases but I can't decide which so what's best /g/?

Either the Corsair Carbide 250D or the Fractal Design Node 804

I'm running a 4790K with a H100i GTX, 2 3.5" HDDs, 1 SSD and a GTX 780

How would you control pic related from a desktop?

http://www.amazon.com/Flux-x2122-Bluetooth-Smart-Light/dp/B00GWBBZ2I

It uses an app called "Magic Light - BLE" that my Android phone can't run because it is limited to version 4.1.2 and the app requires 4.3+

I tried using an Android Virtual Box and BlueStacks but they both don't seem to support Bluetooth.

I haven't found any other way to control the bulb other than the app.

First and foremost - I'd first remove the dildo from my anus, considering I'm obviously a faggot for buying this retarded bulb.
