That's a card designed for 1U servers and packing as many cards as you can in a workstation

>>47160380
That's a gaming graphics card.
>>
>>47160426

So, are there 8-card workstations, then? Never seen one myself.
>>
>Cram on orders of magnitude more transistors on the same silicon area
>Run said chips at higher clock rates
>Surprised cooling is now more demanding
Really? Is that that hard to comprehend?

I know manufacturing techniques have improved so each individual transistor takes less power, but it hasn't outstripped the amounts of transistors they shove onto the chips.

One of these it a card that has not much performance but supports many monitors. The other are riced gaming cards.
>>

>firepro
>not much performance

they usually use the same gpus as gayman cards you retard

just because something doesn't perform well at gaymez doesn't mean they don't have performance

same reason why cpus these days run hotter than before even though they use less heat.

more transistors means more heat. more heat means better cooling.

only way we can go back to single slot coolers again is if we decided to take a break from performance and skip a generation or two. that way current performance is done on more efficient cores and designs.

this is why you can get $80, single slot cards with a credit card sized cooler attached to them that draw only 60watts that have the performance of a 8800ultra from 2007.

so that way in two years from now we can get the performance of a 980x for example in a single slot configuration that only draws 70watts.

but gamers wont allow that. they want their performance nao and because of that we get stuck with cards that can up two - three slots with massive heatsinks and two - four fans slapped to it or needing a custom water cooling unit attached to it.
>>
>>47160621
but there's no point 'upgrading' to hardware that has zero performance increases. people usually upgrade hardware specifically when their old hardware doesn't have enough performance

Single slot cards don't provide enough cooling. The last single slot GPU I've ever seen was the EVGA 8800GT and that shit got so hot you could fry an omelet on it.

>>47160373
You win.

>>47161203
they should just ship high end cards with a watercooling loop included. You can buy CLC for cpus for €30 these days.

Graphics cards are created nude.

People proceeded to eat the fruit from the Tree of Gaymen.

They saw their graphics cards were nude, and covered them with heatsinks, fans, backplates and shrouds.

a very weak space heater

unless you have crossfire 290X's or something you're not going to get much heat
>>
>>47162294
This is not true. I have a single 670 and it works very well as a space heater in some games.

that's for gaming. they have different requirements

also, more processing power = hotter = need better cooling.

a G3220 runs hotter than pentium 4 D?

a GTX 760 runs hotter than a GTX 480?

Gamers care about performance, so we get these insane cooling setups.

Just buy the low-mid end cards to avoid this, and remain in the era of sane GPUs.
