I don't think up or down voting would work well on 4chan. It is counter to how this website works.
But maybe a type of neutral voting mechanism would work better. A way to show a strong acknowledgment of a post, without saying whether or not you agree or disagree. That way the posts that have the greatest impact stand out regardless of how people feel toward it.
Of course we practically already have this, thanks to back-linking replies, but they also provide context that the user has to read. That may be a better system anyway, so I think voting may just be superfluous.
