Sometimes. It can get really slow so I've been learning to program on the side. Getting good with Python, not sure what to try next. Also studying for Net+ and CCENT

Pic related, we only use i7's with shitty Chinese software that only utilizes one core. Because "premium"

Yeah. Looking for a new company to work for though.
>>

65k
I enjoy the work but not the company or management (IBM)
>>
>>55162586
Both from craigslist, no real political/social connections. Just had a few interviews and hired me. If you show you know your shit and you're not an idiot, going into any IT field is easy.

The $65k job I started at 35k and was promoted to systems engineer within 2 weeks @ 45 despite knowing nothing about networking (I picked it up fast). later on I became full stack software at that same place for 65.

Second job I went full stack right away and thought I was ready for a good salary so it's what I asked for.

I've always heard big things from IBM, hast hat changed since they went more enterprise? What company would you rather work for?
>>
>>55162645
Every time I had a challenge to solve, if it wasn't viable to do in a language I knew, I ended up picking up whichever programming language was best for the job. I eventually became a jack of all trades. From there you slowly master one by one.
>>
>>55162663
Interesting man, have you got a blog or something? I presume you used websites right, or did you prefer any books.
>>
>>55162672
No blog, though I've wanted to start one up on security and random "life-tech hack" style shit I do. I haven't read a single programming book to completion. Partway through I end up throwing it out and just sticking to trial and error practice.

Britfag working for Bupa in a care home doing 3 job roles. House Keeper at £7.20 an hour. Activities Co-ordinator at £9.50 an hour and Maintenance Operative at £10.50 an hour. Work about 30 hours a week and bring just over £1000 after tax. Fucking love my job, super laid back and it's full of females.

Not really. If there was a chance for advancement where I work, then sure. But everyone gets slotted with no possibility for a promotion. So I work with a bunch of miserable old people that gave up years ago and put almost no effort into their job or continuing their education.

Materials Planner
46/hr in state
87/hr union rate
92/hr non union out of state
I travel about a month out of the year for special projects. I work obscene hours so although my hourly rate is low I gross into the mid six figures easily. I have degrees in industrial engineering and statistics. I mostly build custom logarithms and do statistical inventory analysis on stochastic goods. It's a very small field but is very easy to get into. I enjoy my job very much but I will admit, most people will find it incredibly dull
>>
Data management, I work as a technician and make bank. I work 4 days a week for 10 hours a day. We basically are just fancy IT guys who fix our clients hardware or software issues over the phone or typically through a software to digitally connect us. We had issues with jet blue in which the RAM on the machine storing passenger flight information had failed. It took nearly 6 hours to get someone who wasn't tech illiterate to fix it.

What's a good wage for interns? I'm looking to start applying for intern positions and I want to get a feel for what's good.
A friend of mine interns with a devops team at a big company and he gets $20/hour.
Also, what's a good salary for a CS graduate?

Installer/codemonkey at a small media contractor.
$15 cad an hour, I'm brand new and it's a summer job.
2 years of computer science major, returning to school in September.
I love the job.

Works in print shop for state government. Been there for over ten years. Trying to get into IT within state government but my state is kinda fucked financially right now. (aka hiring freeze and people who retire they basically shit can that vacant job).
I make around 27 thou a year which where I live ain't bad. plus I live like ten minutes from work so I save on gas.

My qualifications:
High school diploma (obviously)
Comptia A+ Certified (2002)
Comptia Net+ Certified (2003)
Cisco Network Support (2012)
Cisco Network Design (2012)
Windows System Administrator (2014)
plus I been working with computers and helping people with IT issues since I was like 14 years old.

My job isn't bad, people I work with are nice and let me do my own thing long as I get the job done but after ten years and the fact things are going to get shaken up here soon it's time for me to move on
>>
Nothing in my field. I'm a casino dealer. Everything with a BS in Chemistry pays less, and I don't love chemistry enough to do a PhD.

>Qualifications?
Bachelors in Chemistry. One first author publication, multiple second and third in good journals. Did 1 year in Inorganic research, two years in ChemE / BioE lab.

>Salary?
Varies. Base is 7.50, but pooled tips can bring it up to even 40 or 50 per hour, depending on a lot of variables. Averages around 20 - 25 though. I made 48,000 last year working 40 hours per week, but could pull more shifts.

Beats working as a lab tech for 13 dollars an hour like I was offered coming out of college.

>Do you enjoy it?
It's not bad. Work 1 hour on, 15 minutes off. People swear and yell at you but who cares, the money is good. Might go back to school but not sure what.
