Low bar is just a fad like sumo deadlifts, if you're really interested in seeing your maximum of course you're going to low-bar squat as it decreases ROM basically.

Sumo deadlift is the same thing, eliminating some ROM and also increasing use of other muscle groups to be competition viable while also having relevancy to the same type of lift.

I don't really see either one as beneficial to someone who isn't trying to pack on strength ASAP. I used to low bar squat when I first started out and the one thing I always remember is that the pressure it places on your knees at the lowest position was dangerous at least in my case.

Low bar recruits more overall muscle mass, which allows you to squat more. High bar recruits less muscle mass, so you'll always HB less than you would LB. The difference in ROM between a properly executed HB and LB squat is negiligible. Depending on an individual lifter's ability to maintain lumbar extension, it's non-existent.

Anyone who wants to prioritise strength and muscle growth should use LB.

Yes, elite tier oly lifters use HB almost exclusively at very heavy weights. But guess what? None of us are them. They're doing it because it's an assistance lift to their competition lifts (they need to be able to squat as much as possible with a vertical back angle, and HB squat lets them train at higher weights than a front squat.) And because they're already /extremely/ strong. They're at the point where they need to make a trade off between increasing their overall strength and increasing their strength in the precise, specialised movements they need to use to compete.

I can all but guarantee that none of the people in this thread are at the point where they're strong enough that the gains they can make by squatting lowbar are worth sacrificing for specialisation in oly lifting.

But do whatever the fuck you want, it's your body.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

Sumo deadlift and lowbar squat aren't used to decrease ROM. Lowbar squat recruits more primary muscle mass than the highbar squat, and thus you are able to move more. Whether you deadlift more sumo or conventional is purely based on your own proportions and bone structure. If you train both, and actually have good technique with both, your max with either one will be within 50 pounds of the other.
