I signed up for a race but I was starting to make up excuses to not go. the universe already gave me a second chance by canceling the race for a full month and a half. I think running with an extra 80lbs will be hard on your knees, esp. if it's on concrete. I would guess you'd be ok walking it (if your pride will take it) and while it might feel like you aren't applying yourself hard enough my view is that at this early stage it's important to prioritise injury prevention (form, mobility and tendon strength) which takes time. I think at this stage without any training, technique and an extra 80lbs your knees may be a weaker part of the chain than your motivation.
if you do decide to see how much you can run, I suggest finding a pair of those knee-sleeves as that might help reduce your risk of injury - and this is a video on running technique which I found applying some of the techniques from (specifically - posture, where the foot lands and cadence/pace) helped reduce the impact when I run. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSIDRHUWlVo

Thanks for the info as I was just researching proper form and stuff. I know it can be damaging to run when you're overweight. I'll probably run at a fast (for me) pace in the beginning and then switch to a slower pace and alternating between walking and running. If I feel pain or just can't run anymore I'll just walk to finish the race.

I was 30%BF and trying to get back in shape and thought that boxing would be a good way to do it. I was in complete shit shape, my feet hurt if I walked more than a couple km, my joints were sore and I got tired very easy. So I tried to learn boxing by just watching YouTube videos and practicing down by the river. I went at it everyday rain or shine for a good month. I couldn't run without pain so I just walked and did the best I could. I eventually reached a plateau with the boxing cause I had no idea what I was doing. I decided to join a boxing gym and was completely terrified because even the girls were moving way better than me and there were no fatties in the gym. Even though I joined, I was terrified of going and made all sorts of excuses not do go. My joints hurt, I didn't want to make an ass of myself, my form sucks. But I went anyway in sheer terror and it was super stressful. At the end of the workout I never regretted going, not once. There were times I did injure myself, like spraing my right wrist, so until it healed, I would just throw jabs and hooks. I still suck, but I'm down to 18% bf, and have earned the respect of my trainers by showing up every MWF. Yes, it's scary to run and you can make hundreds of excuses not to, but you'll be filled with shame and guilt rather than pride and joy. Run the 6km.
