But when someone trains for a single lift specifically, they tend to look over to doing as many variations as they can find. Makes things less boring I guess, and you're always trying to find something that may give you an edge on the competition.

Some may argue that a slower descent has you fight less weight to change the acceleration, and gives you more stretch reflex.

But since the competition bench has a pause... It probably doesn't matter much, and you might benefit from going down a bit faster to save energy and power.

Lads, anyone have experience with the powerlifts 2.0? I'm thinking of buying them, but most reviews (although most are for the first version, it seems) complain about heel compression, and then others don't mention it at all.

People complaining about heel compression don't understand how it works. Yes you can press the corners of it a bit and it will compress slightly. But you can pretty much do the same thing on most weightlifting shoes. The thing is that it doesn't compress with your feet on top of it, because the material distributes the weight over all the surface (and they also have a weight distribution plate made of stiff plastic above it).

The shoes are excellent. Have won gold medals in the WWC and broken squat world records in PL.
