I've been training since January of 2013, doing the routines that /fit/ recommends. I started with SS and then moved on to madcow's when I stopped making gains. Then when those gains stopped I moved on to a PPL split. I was always consistent, ate, and had good form. Guess what. All these routines are fucking shit. I'm strong sure, but I look like fucking shit.

I was delusional for the greater part of these three years, thinking my physique would just suddenly improve. Now I know better. To the guys starting out, you WILL NEVER look aesthetic on strength routines. Go on some brosplit and start pinning if thats what you want.

As for me Im done with fucking lifting, I feel fucking duped and I wasted my time. Fuck this gay earth and fuck you /fit/

It WILL help your looks, but not as much as doing an aesthetics routine will. SS is for strength first and foremost. Generally what I see recommended for beginners is to do SS but combine it with accessory exercises that you'd do with lower weight but higher rep (6-8 reps). So you'd do things like pull-ups and curls on the day you do your main compounds. Also, you'd alternate between lifting heavy on one compound and lifting light on the other.

When the pain got worse, I went to a PT.
He told me I'm more than mobile enough, maybe even hypermobile, and that's not a good thing.
He told me to limit the range of motion so that I don't stretch my shoulder capsule like hell.

You're right about lifting, it IS a waste of time, but it's nothing to DO with whether you do a "strength routine" or a "brosplit", it's to do with your GENETICS. That's what determines a good physique. SHOULDER WIDTH, MUSCULAR INSERTIONS, NARROW HIPS. That's it. Not the fucking routine.

I trained 2 and a half solid years and looked like I didn't left. At the end, I literally just cut for 5 months straight until I was 66kg (was 82kg before), pretty much losing all my fat and a bit of gains.

I'm now running test and already starting to look juicy as fuck after just over a week (preloading with propionate).

i was in your shoes 2 weeks ago. just get started, begin with just the bar, don't rush in and teach yourself bad habits that you have to get rid of down the line. ask a PT at your gym to help you with form, ask people in the gym to give you some tips sometimes, you'll figure it out.

as someone who's doing SS right now, this thread is terrifying to be honest.

i'm doing SS by the book with some accesories after the main lifts, eating at a 500 cal surplus and hitting my macros. i'm not going to turn out like OP am i?

The infographic above me tells you. For starting strength, assuming your recovery parameters are in check (sleeping, eating), you hit a plateau and deload. After you've done that 3 times, you move on to a more advanced routine where you increase the weight WEEKLY instead of day-by-day.

It's important to know the difference between not making progress and just having an off workout. Towards the end of your linear progression, you may only get 3x3 or 5x3, but then you nail it next time. After my first deload, I'm back to LP with my microplates.

like ppl is my framework but basically it depends if i am cutting or bulking. If im bulking its basically just some powerlifting movement, bench on push, pendlay row on pull, and squats for legs.
Then I just do accessories.
Same when I cut, but much less time spent on the pl stuff and more accessories, usually throw in pre exhaustion

If aesthetics are your goal start training for that. You'll make a lot more progress quicker starting with that base of strength than you would have going straight for a bro-split.

It's both. Generally you should see a difference after 3 months of weightlifting. After 6 months you should look like you lift. After one year you should look like you're big to the average person. Do 3 months of SS and then hop on whatever routine you have to do to accomplish your goals. Diet, sleep are the foundation of your training. Good form and lifting as much as you can while not overexercising will build on top of it. Genetics are your limitation. Good luck, don't be a dumbass. I'm talking nothing but the truth.

I know some of the feelings you are experiencing.

I knew in my mind as a fat short man that even with regular fitness and dieting I would never look good so I decided to do strength focused workouts.

I had hoped that with the exercise and change in lifestyle I'd eventually look at least more aestheticly pleasing to myself, but I hate what I see in the mirror. I'm still obese, because I suck.
