So with Tian Tao's 302kg high bar back squat with no belt at 85 kg's bodyweight, are powerlifters BTFO once and for all? Brett Gibbs is more or less the world champion at 83 kilo class and he hasn't squatted over 300.

No because he weighs 2 kilos too much.
I just ignore all the lower weight class "records" regardless, they aren't as important as the absolute heaviest weights being lifted.
>>35385234
Tian Taos max back squat is 325kg
>>35385084
Gibbs has to deal with out-of-contest testing. Tian doesn't.
>>35385084
Gibbs competes tested. While the IPF testing has flaws, its miles ahead of the Chinese Olympic program and its institutionalised doping.
If you want a better comparison, it'd be Amit Sapirs squat record - same weight class, no testing. Just shy of 340kg, IIRC.

>highbar
>ass to grass
>no belt
Tian could probably low bar squat 400kg. His legs do almost 100% of the squat while shitty low bar powerlifting squatters use mainly their back to lift.
>>35385349
yeah switching to low bar adds 100 fucking kilograms to your squat
kys
>>35385316
>IPF testing has flaws
understatement of the century
>>35385284
New Zealand doesn't actually do out of contest testing.
>>35385390
it adds about 33% to your lift, yea.. backs are stronk, mang
especially when you add in a belt.
>>35386636
More like 10-15% in most people.
>>35385084
Do you think Hood lifts?
>>35386641
most people, not someone at the elite level like tao
