Are front squats a good substitute for back squats? Or should I use both in combination?

They work different sets of muscles, so no? It depends on your goals tho
Great to substitute some days but not all

Front squats are more quad-dominant, back squats have more of a balance between quads and posterior chain. Front squats also take a bit of work to learn.
Do both.
Emphasis should be on back with front as a secondary movement.

>Are front squats a good substitute for back squats?
Nah. They make a good squat variation to alternate with, though.
Couple weeks of back squat, then front, or alternate every other workout.
Both are training basically the same muscles, but front squat really taxes your core and upper back more severely.
Why not do both?
Aim for your front squat to be around 70% of your back squat.

>They work different sets of muscles
No. The same muscles, just with slightly different severity.

Good accesory to go with back skwat
I have a home gym and don't have a rack so I do front squat and hack squats. Works well enough for me.
>>35383617
Both, or these.
>>35383617
not OP, but what If I only do deadlifts and hack squats because I don't have room for a squat rack, and don't want to go to a gym

Get squat stands.

I can't see that anyone's said it but front squats are harder to cheat on too. Back squats allow heavier weight with all the benefits that brings but if you don't go atg your front squat will be much lower.
Because of this on certain things you might want to use a front squat. For example on something like a 20 rep squat program a front squat will keep those as quality reps. With a back squat you may find you end up cheating a lot
