This made me legitimately sad.
On a positive note, this was some excellent motivation for me today. I'm 5'9" and this summer I was close to 350 lbs, the highest weight I've ever been( I have been fat my entire life) Since the end of July I've been keeping track of my caloric intake everyday along with hitting the gym and I currently weigh 326 lbs. Sometimes I feel like the results are coming so slow, and I question whether it's all worth it. But then I read stories like this where if this woman can put that amount of time and dedication into ruining her marriage, her self-esteem and her health, then I can put in the time and effort it takes to get my body to a point where I won't have a heart attack or stroke at the age of 60.
I'm working towards 180 lbs within 3 years and reaching my goal body of "high test amazon". It's one of my dreams.

People criticise me for taking so long, but to be perfectly honest I'm glad I did as it set me up with a healthy, moderate lifestyle and exercising is now just a regular part of my week. If I miss the gym for more than 3 days I start to feel odd and feel the need to return soon. The hypocrisy in those arguments is aggravating.
The argument "95% of diets fail" is problematic. Implicitly it claims that people have no free will, can't choose whether they eat or not. A diet is not something you just do to someone and it either works or not. A diet is a permanent lifestyle change. If it fails, it's because they lacked the proper motivation. So saying "95% of diets fail" is dumbing people's behaviours down to statistics. It's basically the same as "70% of all black people have stolen something in their life" or whatever (I don't know the real numbers, not that 4chan cares) and therefore all blacks are thieves.
If I now do the same and say that there's a correlation between weight and
• Body odour (>0)
• Intelligence (<0)
• Laziness (>0)
• Diseases (>0)
• Mental diseases (>0)
• Physical Activity (<0)
• Quality of Life (<0)
etc, fatties would go apeshit, if I say "Fatties are stinking, stupid, lazy, sick, mentally ill, sedentary, miserable people". It's the very same argumentation, but apparently it only works when it fits their ways, but when it feels bad to them, it's offensive and whatnot.
There's no consistency in the philosophy and ethics behind "fat acceptance". That's why it will fail to gain actual attention.
