I know these are pretty meager stats, but I can't be full powerlifter like lots of you guys because i'm in the military and have to git gud at running. That being said, I know very few people who can beat me both on the track and in the gym.

What was your starting point like?

I walked into a gym for the very first time when I was 19 and was doing 115lbs. I had been running regularly so my legs weren't twigs but I had done 0 strength training and I was a 6'0 160 lbs lanklet. Within a month I was squatting body weight, and I cracked two plates in maybe 3-4 months.

If you are stuck, there's probably a big problem with recovery/nutrition/injury. Or you just started from a really shitty spot

Admittedly I was doing ATG squats at first and once I put on a reasonable amount of weight, my knees began hurting because I lacked the flexibility to have proper form. I reset to the empty bar and re-learned with just hitting parallel. My squat should definitely be higher.

A lifetime of obesity, playing video games and basically no physical activity.

I started in July at 245 and I'm 228 now, so not really sure how much muscle I've put on and how much fat I've lost. I still have a long way to go. I'm also 32, which I'm sure is a small factor.

Yeah, for sure, that makes a difference. Don't be discouraged, progress is progress. #1 key to long-term success lifting, in my experience, has been building good habits. Stick with it and I'm sure you'll lose the weight and get the body you want.

Very few people actually train all three lifts equally. If you train like a regular bro, you're putting two or three times the volume (and probably an even bigger difference effort-wise) into your bench as your squats or deadlifts. Which damn well should get you a bench matching or exceeding your other lifts.

You probably don't overload on bench like you can do more easily on squats and deadlifts. Do some floor presses and rack lockouts. They're basically the same as box squats and rack pulls for squats and deads.
