So I am approaching weight where the reps are much harder now due to my low rest time. However, I do not want to wait longer than 2.5mins max for breaks in between sets. I like having intense work outs that are short and sweet.

So my question is... has anyone here run programs where there is only a top set only? What gains did you see from programs that have a ramping set only? Billstars' program comes to mind.
Although Im going to be going for top sets of 10.

Thanks.

Also, can someone spam this thread with pics of girls spreading their legs like the current thread up? Its insanely hot and I need more of those pictures.

I hit the same point a couple weeks ago while doing SS where I had to rest 10 minutes between squat sets. Since my upper body lifts were stalling I decided to switch to 5/3/1. At the moment for me this means more volume than I was doing under SS but shorter rest periods because aside from the last set of any given workout the weight hasn't gotten back up to the amount of weight I was lifting for 3x5.

In other words you need to build work capacity and adding a bit of volume will do that for you so long as you're doing said volume in the 70-90% of your 1RM (ie: squatting 50 reps of 1 plate won't make 3 plates go up much easier)

Unless you are 95% or more of your 1rpm why in the world would you rest more than 2 minutes?

doing sets of 5 with 85% of your 1RM will exhaust you

im doing sets of 10 right now, i get what youre sayign though

Seriously how can you get that exhausted at 85%? If thats true you need to get your numbers reevaluated.

because 5 reps at 85% is hard...

whats your 1rm for squats, for example

Not the guy you're replying to but my 5RM tends to be about 85%-90% of my 1RM and if I do a set of 5 of my 5RM than I need to rest for more than a few minutes. No doubt I can stand to build more work capacity but it isn't that absurd to be able to get the weight up with good form and need to rest 5-10 minutes between sets.

You need to work on condition, at that point might as well just rest a week

Yeah maybe if you're hitting it for one. But hitting RPE 9-10 on any lift regardless of percentage is gonna require more than 2 minutes of rest if you want to get the most out of your next set.
