>how?

Realize you enjoy being on here, first and foremost.

But like the WoW player who loses hour after hour after hour, neglecting their hygiene and allowing themselves to weaken, the exact same is happening to you.

Instead of side quests, you have information finding. Instead of leveling up, you're learning useless knowledge that has no real world practicality. Chasing a dragon that will only feel good for a few moments when you capture it, only to realize everything around you has fallen apart.

So, how to stop it? Recognize it's a problem. Actively limit your time on here and, this is important, find other hobbies. Anything that doesn't involve mindlessly dicking around on 4chan.

This could be book reading, writing, learning an instrument, so on. Depending on where your interests lie.

But really, if you spend countless hours browsing around online, recognize you're in the exact same mold as WoW addicts. You can't live like this forever, and sooner or later it will be time to move on to something else.

Took me until my mid 20s to get a grip.

It is hard, though.

I'm doing a lot of different hobbies but I still stay most of my day here. Working at home doesn't help it either.

>>37956099
Determine a field you like. For me it was writing, so I freelance. Not making enough to live on as of now (could change who knows), but I prefer low stress and being minimalist.

Do a search and find communities to push you in the right direction. There's also mturk, though that's the equivalent of digital sweatshop work and definitely not enough to live on unless you spend every waking moment there.

>>37956108
Funny for me it was the opposite. Internet browsing was infinitely worse than porn for me, though I stopped porn entirely since it was just another form of browsing, and I no longer spend hours here like I used to.

Some days I miss it, but it's no longer compatible with my current lifestyle.

Hey guys.
I just had a million dollar business idea.

I shouldn't share it over the internet but here goes.

The idea: 4chan IRL.

What? It's a meeting place where rooms are divided into subject categories.

The staff hand you a coat and pants and a mask to change into, identical to everyone elses mask and suit, and you enter whatever room you want and socialize.

There will be moderators and security. You can bring pre-approved items like video games, porn magazines, or other such topics related to your discussion.

Everything is screened by security and their are lockers for you to store your stuff.

It's a monthly fee for membership.

I found a few things that pull me from the internet.

- Riding my bike around the city, exploring
- Geocaching
- Starting a garden

Gardening was the best for me. I grow delicious food for nearly free. I find myself coming home from work, excited to spend a few hours in the garden. If it's a hot day I feel the need to rush home and check on my "babies" to see if they're thirsty. Basically I let myself become a plant-mom and my internet usage dropped.

yes, exactly.

I think it would turn out like those elite secret society clubs for the wealthy elite but for the every man. Of course I would not approve of sex on property, you'll have to take whoever you are talking to home for that.

But in the spirit of fourchan the "orange rooms" would allow you to flash your junk and tits. just no touching.

I'd add: Quit porn. Do NoFap or whatever you need to do to kick it but it's got to go and never come back. You'd be surprised how much time is spent just jacking off or looking at videos/pics of naked people. It's a giant waste of time.

I used a calendar to limit my time. For all the productivity shit I've ever tried, only Google Calendar has ever worked.
>>

>Porn was never an issue with me. Internet browsing was.

For me, porn/fapping was a big one. I eventually got bored of the boring baby/selfie pics posted on FB, arguing with tards on reddit (HURRR) and after fapping was cut I had to cut down on 4chan time or else relapse over and over.

I now browse my chosen subreddits/forums every couple of days since most of them are rather slow anyway. 4chan always annoys with the shitposting after a while so I can limit that pretty easily.

I took reading and meditating back up which has done wonders for my ability to concentrate and focus.
>>
>>37956568

>>
>>37956108
>buying books
>>
>>37956635
I'm not going to make this for normies.
I'm making this for the dwellers of this shit hole.

This is a way for self identified "un-normies" to socialize.

I don't think normies would like this at all.
>>

>>37956614
>I took reading and meditating back up which has done wonders for my ability to concentrate and focus.

Good on you, I need to do the same.

Also you're right on cutting down time here. If you're trying to stop fapping but find that you've spent hours doing nothing of value, it's easy to get into the "well, might as well jack off" mode.

>>
>tfw spend nearly all free time on 4chan

feels bad man. But you guys are the only ones who understand me. I fucking hate normie shitstains. And really it isn't worse than normies who watch television all day.

>spend endless hours on the chan
>also cooked, cleaned, biked, played volleyball, read 1/4 of a book, did language training, researched stuff, researched new recipes, drew, and wrote, and did job stuff
>and masturbated

Not horrible. Normies have 0 productive hobbies, I have like 10. Many of them accredited to 4chan getting me started.
>>
>>37956568
Don't bother.

Logistically, it'd be retarded given the very small likelihood that you'd have more than like 4 people within a certain locality to justify meeting up. If you were to do this, you'd need to set things up like a con where there is a centralized meeting location and occurs for a limited time (i.e. a week at the most).

But even then, good fucking luck with a) finding a location that would support this shit, b) obtaining enough NEET bucks to support the efforts, and c) (again) finding enough people willingly to do this shit in public.

There's only been like 2 /fit/ meetups and they maxed out at about 20 or so people each, and we're one of the more popular boards on the site.

I would facilitate total anonymity and provide excellent security both physically and informational.

It would be a club you could attend. With many amenities and the like. Wifi, workshops for the hobbiests, tvs, debating platforms. Activities, a bar. All of it anonymous. All of it with teh same atmosphere and personality as 4chan and catered to the anons.

You would enjoy it, I'm sure.
>>
>>37956669
>I'm not going to make this for normies.
>I'm making this for the dwellers of this shit hole.
So you want to provide what we have right here and now... but we have to go somewhere and pay money to get it, and it'll probably awkward and scary?

Yeah nah.

Nobody makes money off of 4chan and the scum who visit it. Literally the only ads that get run here are for masturbation aids.
>>
>>37956821
But there will be so much more to it.
>>
>>37956802
>I would facilitate total anonymity and provide excellent security both physically and informational.
You can't do both. If you're going to go to the lengths needed to ensure security, you're going to need to run background checks in order to make sure you're not calling in some sex offender or someone with a history of violence into the mix, which would call for breaking anonymity on the operational level.

>It would be a club you could attend. With many amenities and the like. Wifi, workshops for the hobbiests, tvs, debating platforms. Activities, a bar. All of it anonymous. All of it with teh same atmosphere and personality as 4chan and catered to the anons.
Supported by what money? You're catering to a site that has a massive NEET user base with very little income to be disposed. It's not like you're catering to elite people making 7+ figures a year.

And how would people talk? Distort their voices? Closest to what you are talking about are the anonymizer body suits of A Scanner darkly.
It doesn't sounds bad, it could work in a capital city or such.
>>
>>37956887
>How often do you have to wank off so that it infringes on your schedule?

It didn't infringe on my schedule which was the problem. I work from home mostly so I could set my own hours. I was jacking off 3-4 times a day and just browsing porn until I found "the one" that pushed me over. There's also the self-loathing afterwards where I didn't feel like doing anything.

When I quit, I had to fill that time with something else so developed more hobbies. I also became more strict with a work schedule so became more productive. Feels good. Maybe porn and masturbation wasn't an issue for you, but I felt better quitting. Did the full 90 day reboot and everything. Off porn entirely and limit masturbation to once a week and often forget because I'm so busy.

No one here makes a lot, so the majority of the populace would be older people who've aged out of nerd-interests OR nu-male, trust fund kiddies from Reddit.
I dunno, you could try the sponsorship route.
But it could end up like Dorrito-gate.
Either way, it'd be nice to have a place with pizza/beer/and other people who share my shitty hobbies.

Theres no such a thing as an "addiction".
Once you realize this, you can just stop repeating any activity you want.

You want stop anything - smoking, playing MMO, eating sweets? Just dont do it. And realize its only one or other chemical compound in your brain. Dont obey it; make it obey you.

Except we're not wasting our time? The internet has probably made the average person smarter. We read much more than we probably would otherwise. We learn much more. We're caught up on current events. Communication has been revolutionized. The fact that I'm communicating with you is a miracle. Face to face communication is becoming a burden for a lot of people and probably will be done with given the internet.
>>
>>37959992

internet can be the most productive place you can visit, but it can also be an alternative reality you're wasting your life on

>>37960154

I'm 22 and have always spent alot of time on computers and the internet. But yes, have activities and even work that isn't based around the internet. For instance I use: The gym, My home garden (trying to cut at least 50% of my food bill by growing all sorts of my own food, composting and so forth, fuck corporate supermarkets), Doing anything with my girlfriend or just simply going for a walk.

Its a necessity to have other priorities and objectives in your life. Humans haven't evolved to the stage where we are physically or mentally OK to remain in a virtual world for most of our time. So recognise the internet is amazing, and willl only become more integral with humans as time goes by. That said, you need to be aware that you need balance, as a social animal which is really designed to be outside, alert and patrolling for something to hunt or harvest, not vegetating in place.

Addiction is bullshit.

I've technically struggled with addiction, but one of the key components to me escaping it was realising that by thinking in terms of 'addiction' I was undermining my own agency.

Addiction is victim complex garbage. You want to know how to cure an addiction? Just. Stop.

Let me tell you all the reasons why this wouldn't work.

1. You seriously think that these NEETs who can't even order a pizza without having a panic attack are going to leave their house, have money to sustain such a club (electricity bills + water + employees payments + benefits + internet + furniture + random shit), and actually go monthly?

You're talking about people who don't even shower on a daily basis.

2. You want to provide anonymity but as someone mentioned before me, voice recognition?

3. The only reason things like these work at an elite level is because they have the money and the social skills and the power to get away with this shit. Where is all your capital going to come from? Business 101 tells you you never want to invest your own capital for these kinds of things.

4. What are you going to do when someone simply gets in a debate that was too heated and they start beating eachother up? How are you going to keep this anonymous?

4.5 What if someone tore off another person's mask, even if just for a split second?

This just isn't viable, sorry senpai
