I enjoy the look of pixie cuts on other women, then when I cut my own hair into a pixie cut it turned out it was too thick and curly for it and I looked ridiculous.

Eh, I've had both and I don't actually think that's true. It washes quicker but that's about it.
Short hair requires daily styling. Washing everyday or every other day. Regular trims and product to keep it in check.
With long hair, as long as it isn't thin, you can wash it once and week and be done with it.
