I like the Submariner aestetic, is Seiko a good call?
Also: I guess there is no better place to ask this, since pretty many skeletons browse /fa/ (maybe it's different with watch threads..). Anyways. Isnt it kind of weird, wearing as 'bulky' watches as Submariners on narrow wrists?
>>9685035
Submariners are only 40mm
>>9685035
SKX007 is 46mm lug-to-lug, 2 less than the Submariner.

A minty seamaster, constalation or alike would probably fit your budget.
Reduced speedy if you stretch a bit, would make him really happy.
and you'd inherit it
>>9685646
You could get a vintage seamaster for $400-800 depending on condition, but that's kinda the cheap way out
Generally when people like omega as a brand they jerk off to the Seamaster and Speed master, you would have to save up a little and do some shopping around
My straps finally got here. I'm kind of disappointed with cheapestnatostraps honestly, the shipping took like 3 weeks and the straps feel much rougher and cheaper and itchier than the ones I bought from crown and buckle. They also only had polished hardware which doesn't match the blasted finish on the OM at all. Oh well, they look pretty nice, although the colors are also a bit more faded than on the crown and buckles. Where should I try next? I liked the selection of this site and they were a little bit cheaper I guess, but they're a bit too low quality for me and it's not like expensive cloth straps are even that expensive.
And yes I put a nato strap on a gold dress watch, debate me. It was mostly just for fun but I think it actually looks better than I thought it would

>>9685646
Maybe get a Constellation like mine >>9685890
The 60s ones are the coolest in my opinion, 70s one are okay sometimes but by the 80s Omega was struggling as a company and the Connies from that era are kind of shit. I think you could find a stainless steel one in decent shape for around $1000, but just make sure it's actually good shape because I just had to pay $400 to overhaul mine. If you manage to find one (or any other watch model) from his birth year that would probably be pretty awesome, but it might not be worth it to narrow it down that much.
I didn't buy mine so I can't really help you there, just check out ebay and chrono24 and there's lots up for sale. The one in the picture is a ref. 168.004 if you want to use that as a starting point, but there's loads of different ones. Look up the references with pie-pan dials or diamond shaped hour markers too because I think both of those features are really cool looking.
What's the consensus of Victorinox watches? I'm guessing entry/shittier

No I'm just kidding, Omega actually made some very good quartz watches. Watch nerds will turn their noses up at them (which means you can probably get them for a lot cheaper than they should be), but the watches are every bit as high quality as the mechanicals because that was still back when quartz watches were hot shit.
Constellations were the top of the line model so they came with automatic movements and they were all chronometer certified. Seamasters were a step down so they're not certified and they have hand-wind movements. But I think in many cases the seamaster movements were very similar minus the automatic winding parts and without being as carefully adjusted.
>>9685973
That's cool, I respect that

>>9686199
Watches are a hobby of mine, I read about them and genuinely enjoy them. I use them to tell them time when I wear them instead of pulling out a mobile phone, although I dont own any high end pieces I enjoy the history behind the company and how they came to making a watch that ended up on my wrist
guys is it worth copping this one?

>>9686526
I have an oyster bracelet for my skx007 and an engineer bracelet for the OM in the photo. I don't really know what else I would get since bracelets are specific to the watch and have to fit onto it. Or are you talking about stuff like shark mesh and other metal strap type things that aren't watch-specific? I don't really like those very much.
But actually now that you mention it, supposedly Omega I have originally came on a gold mesh Milanese type band, but someone took it off the watch and melted it down. They actually look pretty nice in pic related and it's too bad that I don't have it any more, but there's no way I'm going to try to track one down and pay for a solid gold bracelet anytime soon and that's too much gold for my tastes anyway.
>>9686611
Well orient are generally decent at that price point. I just think it's incredibly gaudy, but it's your opinion that matters, not mine.
>>9686498
What? Orients are great at that low price point.
The kind of watches uninformed people buy are $100 3atm fashion quartz.
>>9686290
>>9686364
Another thing I don't understand comes to functionality. Specifically watches that don't really have any indicators. I understand that anyone who's seen a watch/clock before should recognize a general area of time without markers, but you see some watches that's often completely black with just the dials and I look at that and think "How are you supposed to know the exact time?"
>>9686764
Everybody who is into watches hates them. They're for retards with bad taste.

>>9687751
>not leaving your dive watch on the shore of the irish sea to weather the leather
>>9686199
Watches and sunglasses are pretty much the only socially accepted forms of male jewelry/accessories.
If you think for a second that necklaces or wristbands or rings are acceptable I had some bad news for you.

>>9687853
omg this meme lives on
>>9686924
hey, not bad. I would get that one if I was a girl.
>>9686630
then you should look into other materials. instead of nato straps, try a nice silicone strap instead. you'd just have to know if it would suit that omega well. it would probably rather suit the obris you have in that pic.
with the omega watch I'd only have leather so I'd get a nice brown one. it's okay if you don't like metal mesh bracelets.
requesting A good well made watch for about 350 dollars, must be automatic, is Hamilton khaki something to look into?

>>9690127
what're the issues with it?
>>9690423
From the users perspective, the only thing you'll notice is that the power reserve is shit, only like 15 hours. The movement was in extremely bad condition when I got it, and there's only so much I can do without sinking a ton of money in to it. That being said, the automatic mechanism works great and will keep the watch plenty wound throughout the day if you just wind it in the morning. The only other problems are just little things that don't actually affect the running of the watch, like how I had to swap out the 4th wheel so now its color doesn't match the other wheels.
>>9690248
Honestly? Yeah, a huge blingy INVICTA is just what you're looking for. Naturally the 4chan watch patricians are gonna sperg out, but who cares? You're not getting it to impress them.

>>9691277

You have a solid collection. Very well-rounded. The only thing I can say negative about it is that maratac is pretty overpriced, but I imagine you bought it for its unique sinn-esque looks and not its (rather lackluster) movement.
>>9691326
>overpriced
I actually bought it from Massdrop. It was only $229 vs $349 retail price. You could maybe still argue that it was too much but I was fine with paying that much.
>>9691362
$229 is very reasonable. not far off from what you'd pay for something like an SKX007, which has a similar-tier movement.
Shit, I'd buy that for $229. I keep hearing about things on massdrop, I'm gonna have to start lurking it.
>>9691277
1. Kinda ugly but looks like it's heavy duty and works well
2.pretty cool, was considering one but I feel like it's too gaudy for dress and not really suitable for casual wear
3. 8/10, reduced speedy is better than no speedy, 9/10 if replica because good taste for a poorfag
4. Mandatory Japanese dive watch, but ORANGE is ugly as fuck, should have bought an orient ray instead
5. Way too big, gold isn't appropriate, I personally think pilot style watches are ugly, I assume it has a good movement
6.I don't understand the obsession with old, ugly, cheap, inaccurate slavshit timepieces when even Seiko5's are a better alternative, but hey, maybe it's your thing.
I think you should get a nice, unobtrusive white dress watch to round out the collection.
you have to buy a smartwatch, any currently being sold or any currently announced

>>9691652
>3. 8/10, reduced speedy is better than no speedy, 9/10 if replica because good taste for a poorfag
that's not reduced
>>9691652

1: Not a fan at all, I forget what this watch is called and I just don't get what people see in it
2: Not bad, but what is it? It doesn't quite look like a SARB021 or 033. I prefer the white-dialed versions myself, though.
3: Aww shit nigga 10/10 I fucking love speedys.
4: Orange NATO is just too much on an orange monster. I personally don't like monsters that much but I respect it I guess. Is that the new one or the old one, by the way?
5: I personally don't like fliegers but I think the Steinhart is a pretty solid version of that style. Brass is pretty cool though, if that actually is brass.
6: I don't fucking understand why those big square cases exist, they're awful. Not bad other than that though, at least it's not one of those stupid kid's watches with tanks or parachutes or whatever on them.
I'll give you like a 7.5/10. Most of them aren't things I would wear, but they're not bad.

>>9692733
That's a comfy photo and I want to love the watch but it just looks a tiny bit too cheap. The case needs some better finishing, the hands should be colored better and be a deeper blue, and the applied numerals need to be a bit sharper on the edges and less plasticy looking. Beautiful design though and I'm sure it looks great when you're not scrutinizing it up close.
I love wrist shots where you can see a bit of a shirt sleeve or a comfy looking sweater.

Do you guys think a 42mm watch would eat up a 7inch wrist? Is there like a rule of thumb about watch sizes and wrist circumference or something?
Anyone have any experience with Helgray? Seems like they kickstarted a bunch of models and they look kinda nice.
Was looking at the Skyfighter specifically as it looks pretty simple. The Field Officer is nice too, and is 100 dollars cheaper, so if it turns out they're shit then it won't be a hit on my wallet.
Anyone have one of these? Or know someone that does?
>>9693760
it's okay but nothing more than that.
also why an olympic games themed watch? doesn't that bother you?
other flaws: plastic glass and no lume, needs to be a swatch bracelet or strap if you wanna change it because the lugs are different.
I never understood how they can release the whole irony collection and yet still use plastic crystals for those. at least their metal bracelets are supposed to be good. besides, I'd only buy an irony swatch if it's a bit more crazy because most of what they have sucks in terms of decent and inoffensive designs.
>>9693734
Shit
>>9693764
you can still wear 42mm with that wrist size but it's the limit. wouldn't go bigger than that.
some 44mm watches still might look okay but come across as oversized already. there isn't really a rule of thumb because it depends on the horns of the watches, as well as case thickness and so forth.
I'd play it safe and get a 38-40mm watch. if the crown makes it 42mm you're at the limit.
>>9693800
it was actually a gift from an uncle. he collects watches so I just took it. I'm not a big fan of it neither, but it was better than the shitty digital Casio I was previously wearing

I'm having some difficulty finding a watch smaller than 42mm that I would really like
I was looking at the seagull 1963, which is 42mm in diameter. I do realise that I could get the 38mm one, but I quite like the panda aesthetic of the white dial and black chronometres specifically, and I don't think you can get that on a 38mm watch.
It would also be my first watch that's not a cheap casio, so I really do not want any trouble regarding the size of the watch.

>>9694072
I agree with archie on the JLC surprisingly enough.
I find it to be one of the slickest and likely most wearable non-complication watches around but it's a lot of money for what it is. Unless you /want/ to spend that much, by all means. But you'd probably be better off if you got something cheaper and waited to scratch this particular itch for a few years until they start showing up as condition 1 or 2 with the price that comes with it.
The Zenith looks like a better version of that quartz Seiko the guy who made his own strap for it over in /watch/ on /g/ has.
What is a nice first watch I could wear casually? Something versatile. I don't have a very specific style but I like to wear more button ups, chealsea boots, quilted jackets etc.

I end up buy ing on cheapestnatostrap, some anon was talking about it itt
>>9693419
I want the green strap, it goes well with black, I bought mine on www.skywatches.com, good prices, free shipping, gchoices
What do u think about the watch?
>have a nice vintage King Seiko Hi-Beat in mind
>the crystal and case is scratched up
If I mailed it to a nice watchmaker bro, would they be able to replace or repair the crystal, maybe polish the case, and regulate it?
I would pay obviously.
>>9694212
Rosina ST17
>>9694454
Everything there is completely doable.
except
>polish the case
pls don't
>>9694273
>What do u think about the watch?
I like it a lot. it's just that you can't expect much from an automatic watch at this pricepoint. you have no option to handwind it but technically it doesn't matter. the lume is excellent and it has a nice comfortable weight to it.
>I want the green strap, it goes well with black
true but the canvas strap will get annoying after a while because the weaving will dissolve around the holes on the backside of the strap.
that's why I'd rather have the original metal bracelet but a regular 18mm natostrap does the job too.
>>9694454
Don't polish cases, it ruins a watch. Especially if its one of those delicious 70s style Seikos with the flat surfaces and sharp edges, those are impossible to polish without rounding off all the corners and ruining the aesthetic.
I don't know how easy it is to find original Seiko crystals to fit that, but it might be possible, or at least something close enough to fit could probably be found. If it's a plastic crystal then just polishing it would probably be trivial, but I think King Seikos usually had mineral glass and I don't know how easy that is for a watchmaker to polish, it's pretty hard to do at home at least.
>>9694454
That'd be pretty damn easy, especially if the crystal is just acrylic and not mineral or sapphire or something. Like everyone else said, I wouldn't polish the case. The chance of messing up the original factory style finish is just too high for something like that.
I've been really digging vostoks lately. Picked one up (as well as a new bezel) that i'm waiting for to arrive.
>>9694635
>>9694645
>>9694649
Okay, enough vostoks for now.
What do you guys think about Komono? I like a lot of their watches.
>>9694768
Huge
Cheaply made (I mean holy shit that's supposed to be a promotional photo and the seconds hand isn't even close to being aligned with the markers)
Boring uninspired designs
Pleb shit
They may be /fa/ enough for the rest of the board, but the watch connoisseurs and autists who hang out in these threads hate them.
>>9694768
same thing we think about MVMT. (hint: nothing good)
I suppose the straps are nice because they got neat designer straps and cool patterns. only positive thing I can say about it.
>>9694807
>>9694795
Yeah I just really like their straps too, also I love that KOMONO font on the dial.
>>9684461
Was getting a baby blue nato a good idea or a great idea?
>>9694834
Terrible. It's too light. A dark blue would probably look fine but as is it doesn't look good.
Hublot
>>9694635
Love vostoks.
Unique looks, fairly solid movement, cheap and easy to modify.
What's not to love?
>>9694840
Dark blue strap on a dark blue dial and bezel? That's not very creative and also a little too matchy. I like how it looks, I tend to like my natos in louder colors because I just use them for really casual fucking around when I don't feel like wearing the metal bracelet.
>>9692733
nice pic
>>9694867
You asked what i thought and i told you buddy, i think it looks really bad.
>>9688427
Is this sarcasm or genuine?
>>9694834
If only you had the light blue writing instead of the orange.
>>9694880
It's either too small or you were it too high on your wrist.
>>9695028
Actually the part that bothers me more is that the hardware on the strap is polished. The site I bought from didn't have any blasted or even brushed finished stuff to match the watch case, I think next time I should try to match the finish better.
looking to get a really basic watch (seiko 5 or bambino or such), but how do you measure your wrist in relation to their measurements? How do I know what size is reasonable?
>>9695098
How big is your wrists?
Stuff in the 38~42MM range can be used by most.
>>9695111
Don't have a ruler, guessing 2-3 inches? A penny's .75 in diameter
>>9694996
genuine. what's the damn problem?
Picked this up the other day on sale for not too much. Gonna be a nice looking every day for me I think. I've had luck with invicta in the past but I know their customer service is almost non existent. Either way I like all the invicta watches I've owned.
Excuse the finger prints on the gold, was messing with it earlier trying to get it sized properly.
>>9695193
Take a piece of cloth or scotch tape and wrap around it and make a somewhat measure.
>>9695295
>blue dial
>ever
>>9695098
To give you some perspective here's a 42mm (the Tissot) and a 40mm (the Orient) on my 6.5" bitch wrists. I'd like them to be a bit smaller, but I don't think it looks retarded or anything.
>inb4 getting flamed by all of /fa/
>>9695359
Excuse me, u fuckin wot m8?
>>9695295
Damn, that honestly looks really nice. How much did you spend if you don't mind my asking.
>>9695060
Yes, sometimes I wear it a little too high without noticing.
>>9695359
>>9695397
The fuck you just say to me, bitch?
>>9695398
Invicta watches are cheap. Around like $100.
>>9695359
>blue dial
>not always
>>9695202
Nothing at all, I've looked at most of the makers for the style I was looking for around the price range, the Victorinox is all that comes up, but still pretty insecure about the brand since they make luggage and shit
>>9695398
$80
Here's the rest of my collection.
Not sure which model the bulova is but its stamped with an m1 on the back meaning it was made in 1961. It was passed down to me from my father.
>>9695497
Closer pic
>>9695497
>dat mickey mouse dial
I bet that's a conversation starter if nothing else
>>9695519
Yeah, I like it a lot, needs a new battery though.
Anyone has any experience with those chinese NATOs on ebay? They are literally dirt cheap but I'm worried they're gonna give me skin cancer or at least itch like crazy.
>>9695553
so cool. Lorus released several different versions of these.
one of them has a full lume dial.
>>9695674
reflective dial
>>9695674
I want to show up at a tux party with one of those so bad.
>Take fuckhuge 48+mm submariner knock-off with tons of metal
>attach nato strap to it
>think it's a cute way to "dress down" a watch
when will this bullshit stop. it's like #sprezzatura for watches. nato straps look fine on thinner watches but this shit is ridiculous
>>9695699
get one and please do.
here's a diver version.
>>9695725
Wonder how the GMT version would be
>>9695748
not sure but here's a dual time version.
>>9695796
digital. there is also a lady skeleton watch but I'm too lazy to post more.
Need to buy a watch for my 17 year old male cousin.
What the fuck do teen guys wear? Do they even wear watches?
