How bad the "higher tier" mall brands actually are

How bad the "higher tier" mall brands actually are compared to H&M, Zara and other fast fashion garbage. Am I only paying for name? I know they use third world countries for manufacturing but the materials used and general construction should still be better right? Are there any pieces worth looking out for - dress shirts and outerwear maybe?

Boss is a meme seriously. Everything they do is branded into obnoxiousness.
>>
>>10737208
The fabric and construction are going to be demonstrably better than H&M and Zara because those two brands are particularly awful.

That said, the delta between brands like BOSS and generic mall-tier shit like J.Crew is actually quite low. Frankly, there's a sort of upper limit to fabric/construction quality for ready-made stuff. There's also the reality that - as you identify - many popular fashion houses use cheap shit now because they can - the goddamn rich Saudis will pretty much buy anything branded at this point.

That said, you should always buy for quality/fit/style, not brand.

Drop trip, you don't have a fucking clue.

Both Boss and Jil Sander are both ready-to-wear but the quality gap between chinese made Boss and Italian made Jil Sander is HUGE.

>the goddamn rich Saudis will pretty much buy anything branded at this point.

Your reasoning is stupid as it gets.
>>

As expected. I just don't want to pay for more than what I'm actually getting.

Congrats on trying to be contrarian for the sake of being contrarian. Yes, there are - of course - really nicely made RTW offerings. Remember, the question is being asked by someone whose point of reference is H&M, so the point here isn't to be some sort of pedantic autist that vomits unnecessary information at the OP.

The big problem: fabric is fabric, stitching is stitching. We can sit around jerking off Jil Sander stuff all day (it is nice), but the reality is that most of the money put into the quality is of lesser effect. It's kinda like luxury cars - there's a certain point where having ridiculously expensive parts begins to have a lesser effect on the overall impact of the vehicle, even if there is indeed a lot more money and theoretical "quality" put into the car. I'd personally put carbon fiber parts into this category - nice to have for a plethora of reasons, but the delta between carbon fiber and some traditional metal is quite low given the astronomical price tag.

Alternatively: if someone on /o/ asked if there was a difference between Honda and Mercedes, the answer would be "yes, but there are diminishing returns" as I said. The answer is not "lol but Lamborghini is better than Mercedes!" The latter statement is accurate, but misplaced.

As for the second point: the overwhelming reality in the luxury brand space is that brands have been able to cheapen their products to target wealthy customers with an ill-targeted demand for veblen goods. Ralph Lauren did it a long time ago, Louis Vuitton did it, and there's a damn good argument that many other brands are. The sort of stupid money emanating from China and the Middle East that ends up creating perverse incentives for luxury brands, and many are suffering from it.

Yes, some brands have withstood this pressure. That doesn't defeat the overall trend. The point is, the average Joe walking into some sort of luxury mall is not going to see a huge delta from most products.

Did you just seriously write an entire paragraph about /o/ and cars?

Okay, man, I see you've never owned a "high-fashion" ready-to-wear piece, so you are forgiven. I have plenty, and plenty of brands, and I don't regret a single cent I spent. I have also owned Armani diffusion labels and Boss, and the stuff not only looks worse but falls apart in 2-3 years. The way actual designer clothing feels, fits, and retains it's shape and colour is amazing and a huge upgrade compared to mall-tier brands.

To me there is cheap fashion and expensive fashion - and nothing in between (maybe a handful of labels). If you don't have money, it's okay, I don't judge you. You can still wear sportswear and look good and be comfy. But ever cent spent on mall-tier "mid-range" clothing is a thrown away cent.

Of course youre mostly paying for the name. However, their fused suits (which are basically all of them) arent necessarily bad. I mean, as soon as you dont consider a fused suit to be bad.

You would mostly buy one for the cut. Fabric is average, construction as well. Its nothing special, but sure as hell not overly expensive either.

>dress shirts
Not really. If you want to buy cheap dress shirts just go to a tailor. Will fit better and use better fabric for (probably) less money.

>I see you've never owned a "high-fashion" ready-to-wear piece
Citation needed. Just because I don't suck it's dick doesn't mean I haven't owned it.

I've owned numerous high-end pieces, I just don't let myself be deluded into believing they were somehow inherently superior to any of my other shit. You're acting like /g/ kids with headphones - too thoroughly invested in their purchases to actually recognize that their autism doesn't actually translate in massive sound differences. Placebo, man.

>But ever cent spent on mall-tier "mid-range" clothing is a thrown away cent.
This is patently silly and makes you sound like you're desperately trying to sound higher caste than you really are. Like it or not, even ridiculously overpriced "luxury" shit made of the ~best fabrics ever~ like Loro Piana falls apart more or less just as fast as mall-tier shit. Most people just find that it lasts longer because they're careful not to abuse it quite as easily.

Meanwhile, beat the absolute living shit out of high quality activewear and it'll just get better with time
None of my Tracksmith or reigning champ tees even have popped seams and I abuse them
