MX-5s are fine for winter. If anything, the best days for the top down are the warmer mid-winter days. You don't get that really harsh sun on those days.

Have you ever considered just slapping winter tires on that mofo, or does it still shit the bed during winter? I know some Miata kids who just swap the tires and keep on trucking when winter comes around.. but they tend to live in places like Georgia, where "snow" is a theoretical concept.

Not really, but it's a fine cool thing to do. I do wood work and I am fully aware it isn't a particularly "fashionable" thing to spend my time on but you have to realize that fashion lives in a bubble and no one you meet will value you being fashionable over you doing the things you like to do.
You don't live an idealized life. You're just a dude doing stuff until you die. Rather than worry about the acceptability of every aspect of your live, just trend towards doing things that matter to you and have some value. Essentially any act of creativity or relative accomplishment is ultimately acceptable, whether truly fashionable or not.

All it takes for an NC to be excellent is about 30-40mm lowered suspension and youre good.
Drove one like this and they are honestly such great cars
I own an NA miata too so I know how it compares
all MX5's are great cars, people just like to moan about the NC because they don't feel as if they capture the ethos of the first gen, which might be true but it shouldn't distract from the car as a whole

I'd actually recommend a 300/500cc like a cbr500/300 or ninja 300. Buy used and get it with ABS. Invest in good gear and frame sliders. If you ride a lot you are going to have close calls mostly because of distracted drivers. You are most likely to die in your first and third year of riding. People under age 25 or over 50 are the most likely to have fatal accidents. Scary stuff aside; riding is the best. Way more fun and intimate than cars.

It's 2005. The aesthetic on the older ones may be more appealing but the 2008 revision is a lot more practical. They improved the ergonomics a lot and parts are probably cheaper now.

I was 20 when I got it. I would recommend a used EX 250. They're cheap and hold their value well. Do the MSF course (cheaper insurance) and read the Ninja 250 wiki, even if you get a different bike. The new rider section is really helpful.
