In the big big big picture, Yohji, CdG, etc. are actually pretty "entry level" fashion, it's the next step up from "normal" high fashion. But people discover them and automatically position themselves as if they were in a secret serious sophisticated fashion club. Wabi sabi... Imperfection... Outlying... And they stay there, without really even doing the work any justice, because they lack enough self awareness to realize that they are essentially doing the same thing as before when approaching dress, just in different form.

I guess you are right. I think it was either in My Dear Bomb or in his Nowness video he compared cars to girlfriends. It's not straight-up misogyny but this kind of objectification didn't really sit right with me. He has said a lot of contradictory things in the past so I usually take his word with a grain of salt.
I should have specified in my previous post that my comment about make-up was directed towards style bloggers in general, specifically people like thefeaturedarticle, feralcreature, or every other person on the womeninrickowens instagram. Kie Hye's makeup is more like Kabuki make-up (her face and hands are two completely different colours) but she's definitely had plastic surgery in the past to change her facial features.
Based on what I've seen from him in the past i think Jin is currently the more talented of their partnership, though I think their approach to design may be a hindrance to their creativity as they grow and expand. We'll see.

Generally its having a strong aesthetic sensibility. By this I mean that the designer limits himself in certain regards but not enough to allow for a wild degree of experimentation. For example, Thom Browne limits himself to his typical shrunken suit and prep/americana inspiration for menswear but can do crazy things with it like SS13 or SS15. Issey did this with his focus on how 2D cloth can create a 3D shape. Yohji and Rei do the same with clothing and body but have different approaches to it. Harnden doesn't fit this definition for me as he just confines himself in a box and pushes out the same thing everytime. He limits himself but too much and churns out the same historical inspired fashion. It's that restrained experimentation that makes a designer good in my eyes as too much experimentation causes a jumbled mess while too little causes derivative shit. Compare him to his former business partner Dawson who does similarly historical inspired fashion but she adds this new romantic element to it and has wild ways of showing it. Good depends on how you define it and what you view as good may not be what I view as good. :)

Not him but I think he's saying that she is obviously heavily inspired by his work and tries to "capture the essence of the Yohji Yamamoto brand" but sorely misses the mark. They wear their inspirations on their sleeve as you can see that the cap they have is ripped off Issey Miyake, the pants scream Yohji Yamamoto, and patterns are very Comme des Garcons.
Imo, I would say not to be quick to judge and give them some time. The beginning years are generally where a designer/artist makes the shittiest work they make and suddenly a spark of creative expression bursts forth out of nowhere. People said the very same things to Yohji and Rei back in the 80s. Obviously they may never reach their level but you get my point. Like the man himself said, copy copy and copy until you find that creative spark (I'm paraphrasing obviously).
