adidas set the pricing. and adidas took an opportunity to price-gouge.
this is why kanye has dissociated his clothing from adidas. the shoes are still adidas, but the clothing line is now just yeezy on its own. as such, prices are getting much better. still expensive, but not nearly as expensive. $500 for a jacket instead of $2000 for a sweater. it's a vast improvement.
