I have longer wavy hair
1.) Air dry when possible, low setting on hair dryer when not. Seriously avoid heat styling tools.
2.) You might be over washing your hair. Don't wash with shampoo every day, every other day at most. If you have soft water, see about using a shampoo bar instead of regular shampoo.
3.) Conditioner. Make sure you're using a good conditioner. If you must shower every day, make sure you condition every day. Make sure you're using decent products in general. Speaking of products......
4.) How hard is your water? If you have exceptionally hard water, you might run into issues. Talk to your stylist about products you can use if you happen to have really hard water.
5.) Make sure you comb your hair with a really wide toothed comb.
6.) Avoid humid weather and high winds. Easier said than done lol, but just accept that some days you're gonna have frizzy hair.

You should still get your hair trimmed and styled at salon eventhough you are growing it. Just tell them you are growing your hair and don't want to reduce length. They can thin it in the right places, trim and make layers that will do wonders in the awkward stage.

Natural bristle for sure, and NEVER brush your hair when it's wet (it'll snag on everything and pull out tons of hair). Comb it when it's wet instead, with a wide-toothed comb. I like the look and feel of Swissco combs.
Brush from the ends of your hair to your roots, not the other way around like you always see on tv. Brushing is essential because otherwise you get the back-of-hair dreadlock from sleeping on it.
