SEAsian here. The young generation likes to keep up now! Vietnam, for an example, even though its hot in there, many teenagers now try to dress like Koreans. Dont know if the fits are as good tho. Also, business expansions. Back then, many good brands are not available and we have to make do with just whatever. Now, Japanese and Korean outlets (mainly) are spreading because they want to get ahold of the Asian market first before "conquering" western. In my country, for an example, Uniqlo's CEO has the guts to say "by 2050 we will have defeated [my country's] flagship clothing brands", and by 2020, they will have over 120 stores nationwide and they will bring over GU, Comptoir des Cotonniers, etc. if things go well.
desu i fear for the quality because when businesses expand, the quality usually goes down
I think that in Japan this style is forward and unique only because of it was so cut off during WW2 and soon after it to see the punk movement in EU and NA. Anyways it feels very cheesy to me as a westerner.
