Going outside of your comfort zone is how you improve as an artist. While I do agree that the other anon is being kind of a dick about all of this, it's not necessarily untrue. 3DS guy has talent, but I really haven't seen much of an improvement in the quality of his/her fills and he/she has been doing a ton of them. And they are kind of same face. A lot of artists suffer from the same problem when using the anime style. I think its kind of inevitable considering the limitations of the style. However, 3DS anon kind of seems like they've been really experimenting with poses, but not with faces. Take, for instance, the color request they did a while back with another fill from the thread. Instead of attempting to work with the actual face the artist drew, which would have been a chance to try changing things up, 3DSanon instead erased the face and drew one of their own style.

i'm not saying he should draw those requests by any means, but sometimes the quality of the request pushes the drawfriend to produce better results, i think.

Not at all. A lot of people come to the drawthreads to practice. I personally see nothing wrong with that. If the requesters are satisfied with the quality of the art they're receiving its a win/win.
Its also perfectly possible 3ds anon is satisfied with the current level of his/her work, and isn't seeking to improve via filling requests. They could just be a good Samaritan. I think its pretty clear from the response here that people like his/her work. If they didn't, they would keep doing direct requests.
Too, this isn't a board for art critique. This is /e/, and the drawthread rules specifically state that artists of all levels are welcome. Just because some of us think one artist suffers from a syndrome many other artists suffer from, doesn't mean they should abandon the thread. Especially when 3ds anon is one of the only artists seen around the /e/ drawthread.
And personally, I think the requests have nothing to do with it. This is /e/. The requests are appropriate for /e/. Doing a different style of request isn't going to suddenly change the anon's style of drawing faces. Realistically, the only thing that will do that will be a conscious decision on his/her part, and if they're satisfied with their style, they aren't going to change it.

It's extremely tragic to see a new generation of artists not push themselves to achieve much greater success by challenging themselves, but perhaps the demographic, and their environment complements them very well. If I could draw, to which I answer an embarrassing no, I'd go out of my way to learn and get better as every request rolled on, but such is the state of things today.
Seeing as how the drawfriend in question has neither opted to express his thoughts on the subject nor raised a voice on his behalf to speak on this forum, we're only left to ponder what he's thinking, and should his next request, reflect the thoughts posted herein.

Anon, I do this purely for fun. I'm usually at a shitty job and studying all day and when I get back at night, I draw requests for people because it's relaxing and helps me decompress, and I might get to make some people happy if I do alright.
I'm not saying your criticisms are invalid from an artistic standpoint, but it's just so unnecessarily condenscending and rude.
Honestly right now, I'm just so confused. I don't know who's just trying to provoke people and who's actually trying to give advice, who's defending the artists or who's just doing retarded falseflagging. First of all, no one is born being to draw. It's the other way around, you have to go out of your way to learn in order to be able to draw. With that in mind, I don't think you have any right to be criticizing artists and saying how "tragic" it is that he doesn't push himself when you can't even be assed to start. Listen, I really like your drawings, and I'd really hate to see you go especially since I'd like to get a drawing from you one day, so personally I think you should keep drawing as you have been so far. Not every artist has to strive to become some kind of technical pro. There is such a thing as doing it for fun, and some of these anons can't seem to comprehend that. As for the shitposting, this happens in every drawthread to every artist who can make even a small impression. Just ignore it, and when they get bored of it after they stop getting replies, it'll die down. It always does. If you want, you could wait for this thread to die and the next thread to pop up before drawing a request again, since the normally slow speed of /e/ will give things enough time to settle down by then.
