Anything where the character has their gender bent in canon. I'm personally looking for ranma, but others are appreciated!

I dunno I'd say Ranma was somehow ridiculously unmasculine.

The shit he pulls as his girl half is oftentimes manipulative, not for personal pleasure.

He's got a pretty serious ego regarding his manhood, and he never even knew about the contract.

That all said, lets post some shit.

I've got an idea for a few Ranma adult fics. One more story oriented, the other more romance/sex oriented. The latter would also include BDSM as a major theme which throws me a bit since I like the idea a lot, but I don't know shit about the culture/whatever.

Is the ranma half manga any good?
>>
>>6827461
It's okay. Has a lot of absurd, amusing moments.

It works best as a comedy, then a martial arts action story, then last as a romance. Since it was written at a time when romcom stuff had a contractual obligation with Satan to never resolve itself in the actual story.

It's nothing serious though. You can easily pick it up for a bit, read some, come back later and not need earlier bits for a whole lot of context.
>>
>>6827461
What >>6827471 said. I have to add that it's one of my favorite manga. But you need to understand that it is somewhat an artifact of its time, the anime especially is, with its art style and character models being very much late 80s/early 90s standard.

>>
>>6827471
>>6827702
Is it decent on the romance / fetishy side of things, too?
>>
>>6827745
Not really.

Like I said, the romance is basically the most minor part and it's from when love interests never talked to each other about their feelings.

As I recall the series implies the MC and not-really-but-really S/O are in love/whatever but they never say it to each other in the entire time.

You want a good romance or fetish show? Watch or read something more recent. The focus is wacky and absurd shit and comedic situations.

Also, don't trust the fanbase. An entire meta-canon has evolved where there is stuff perpetuated by the fanbase that simply doesn't exist or is factually inaccurate.

The gimmick concept itself, change into curse form with cold water, back to regular with hot, is cute and used fairly frequently. But it's used as a gimmick, not for storytelling gender or anything.

Fetishy, I mean... there's stuff that's fetish related. Bunnygirl outfits, corsets, etc. But more like passing jokes than anything else.
>>
>>6827758
>As I recall the series implies the MC and not-really-but-really S/O are in love/whatever but they never say it to each other in the entire time

In the manga, in the final arc, they actually do acknowledge it. It never fully gets resolved due to the series ending and the interaction of the other characters...

Great series in general, but definitely not a romance series.
>>
>>6828252
Akane and Ranma do admit SOMETHING quietly I think when the other isn't around during the Saffron arc (been a long time since reading). But it was never one of those "hey you know I care for you" admissions to each other

I could easily be wrong, been a long time. But I remember that even to the end when it's obvious to the reader they're dancing around it.
>>
>>6827758
>Watch or read something more recent.
Any suggestions?
>>
>>6828497
Sekainohate de Aimashou
Not outstanding but the ending is sweet and cute and there's some admission of emotions as well. It has closure

Kanojo ni Naru Hi
More romantic with a flavor of comedy but the characters are fun. The original five chapter series had a weird ending but the additional chapters released are really good and fill in some blanks.

Kanojo ni Naru Hi Another
Sequel to above. Less romantic outright, more comedic + interpersonal. Good stuff though, I think I like it more than the original on some levels.

Megu Miruku
Pure guilty pleasure garbage with fanservice, but there's a lot of tits and shit. Terrible story premise. Almost a real ending with closure then a cockblock.
But hey, tits.

Idol Pretender
SUPER cute. Needed a better ending with more definite closure.

Conveni-N
Leave brain by the door. It features cockroaches piloting a human who was turned into a robot by aliens at one point. MC does turn into a cutie though about a third to halfway through.

Nozomu Nozomi
Has cute art, cute moments, and then weird shit where MC jacks off his sister, or a room full of boys jerk off incessantly to a porn DVD. Honestly better with less lewd, and it's not even that explicit.

Tensei Shoujo Zukan
Weird world where people go through puberty via cocoon metamorphosis. Interesting mini-stories though. Some sexual exploration, some FtM, some MtF. Some temp some permanent. Mostly cute fare.

Boku Girl
Mostly romcom with some weird supernatural stuff.

What is it with male nerds (I assume everyone here has to be at least a little weird if they're posting on /d/) and wanting to be girls? This fetish is way too common to be mere chance.
>>
>>6828716
I'm actually transgender, not a fetish.
>>
>>6828723
Ok, but that just illustrates the point better. 4chan has a higher number of trans women than you'd expect in the general population. Other nerdy communities/hobbies are similar (there are a ton of trans girls who major in computer science for example).
>>
>>6828716
>>6828729
Okay I love trans women and respect them but for real this is not the place to start this discussion.

It doesn't contribute to the topic.

Armchair psychology does nothing but piss people off.
>>
>>6828729
It is kind of a stereotype that transwoman will be in the computer field. I think it has to do with the ability to avoid talking to people face to face.

Oh snap. I follow your blog. Sorry I didn't have the finished one handy otherwise I'd have posted it.

Love the "Ranma as succubus" idea since it'd be a great fucking story as the male ego fights with the succubus "find dudes and fuck them to fuel your power" thing. Especially since the sex would probably be amazing.

I can safely say that your delivery is one of my favorite I've ever gotten by the way. You're doing good for the world with high quality Ranma smut.
>>
>>6828835

It does seem like an idea where there's a lot of potential to have fun with it. I really need to take some time and flesh out one of these outlines I've put together.
>>
>>6828847
Of the ones I saw it's the one with the most potential.

Spring of Drown Succubus, starts off like normal girl. Then it just starts building as the sight of men (and women) makes her feel warm and tingly. Starts getting more and more suggestive (in her clumsy, inexperienced way).

Starts with seducing people for things, just learning how it all works. Finding out the "less is more" method. It then escalates more, and more. Till she's taking stringing boys along for them to buy her things. She justifies it all as her just taking advantage of dumb boys, means nothing. Then one night a date goes further and she gives a blowjob and gets her pussy eaten out. And it feels AMAZING. The guy ends up putty in her hands, and she feels like nothing ever before. Satisfied and content but also more alive than ever.

It just keeps escalating from there till she has a side bunch of fuckbuddies to satisfy her. She's ditching her family and friends to live her female life, all the while she's developing her demonic traits which she only notices one day when bathing.

She finds the more sex she starts having the more control and power she gains, including the ability to nullify her curse and keep her in female form. Starts visiting hot springs, living a second life. Etc.

Sorry I like to ramble and brainstorm. I'm also a WAFF happy ending guy so I imagine this Ranma being like... a sex therapist and doctor since she can innately tell if people have STDs and help people out.

Still thinking of Ranma succubus. Maybe it's like half-succubus because the curse can't complete a total transformation.

She comes to terms that she's a sexual freak not because of the curse, but even before. Ends up wanting to be open and comes out to family after hiding it. Some shun her, others respect her.

I usually conceptually prefer carrying on from the end of the series rather than retreading canon, but then you have to figure out a way to contrive for Ranma either getting succubified later or having the spring of drowned succubus thing going unnoticed for the entire series. Which, to be fair, seems like the sort of ridiculous contrivance that would fit right in. Well, whatever, something to roll around.

Carrying on from the end carries a lot of baggage, but when it comes to fiction I'm open to whatever works best.

A Ranma who arrives in Nerima already a LITTLE different is a good place to start with it. It doesn't need to be an epic, just one of those ones where "This event happened this way in canon, but in this universe it happens this way" and focus the details on important things, like loss of virginity, etc.

But I probably aint writing it either. I want an Akane/Ranma-chan BDSM story where Akane femdoms female Ranma and at the end the two decide its better for Ranma to be a girl permanently to serve Mistress Akane all the time.

But I find the idea of the less powerful but incredibly willful Akane dominating Ranma really hot.

Personally, I've always enjoyed Ranma/Ryoga longform romance. I know it's cliche, but seeing Ranma slowly explore femininity as he/she grows more mature as a person is great.

Speaking of longform romance+Feminization and canon Genderbending...

I've read some decent Ranma/Ryoga.

It's just always neat to see a story that explores Ranma's femininity without.

A) Being completely boy in girl form (defeats purpose)

B) Being a cliche stereotype of femininity. (Some stories are more guilty than others, some at least try to justify it later).

That BDSM story idea sounds nice. Do you intend to turn Akane male though. Because a lot of fanfiction does that and I personally can't stand it.
>>
>>6832808
Hell no. Gentle/stern Femdom Akane.

I sort of see the whole thing starting off in a scenario where Ryoga, thinking Ranma-chan is his cousin again, spanks her while Akane watches and gets hot and Ranma-chan is both humiliated and turned on and it goes from there.

So Akane gets rid of Ryoga and, giving in to impulse, begins to dominate Ranma-chan.

And it goes from there, with Akane getting more and more dom and Ranma more and more sub. Ballgags, collars, etc. And the best thing is both know Ranma has more than enough strength to end it all, but never does because she likes it too much.

>>6828580
Here are some more:

Artificial Maiden:
Short shoujo manga where the MC ends up as a girl and falls in love with a guy. Not good.

Blazblue Remix Heart:
MC gets magically transformed into a girl and gets sent to a school where she lives as a girl. Pretty good and with a surprising amount of focus on the MC's psychology.

Entrans!:
Almost plain ecchi. MC keeps almost getting raped by her horny classmates.

Fukigen Cinderella:
Misogynist periodically transforms into a woman. Interesting premise, diappointing ending.

Kashimashi:
MC gets turned into a girl but was already girlier than all the women. Barely counts as genderbender and not really interestng.

Panikuru Iko-san:
Boy gets a sex change and is lusted after by an older woman. Very bad.

Sai Taker Futari no Artemis:
Nice art and a potentially good premice marred by awful execution and being a shitty harem.

Tsukiyo no Fromage:
Slice of life series where the MC ends up in a magical world as a girl. Worth a read.
>>
>>6833581
Problems with Jinzou Shoujo aside (and it does have problems) it IS my fetish to be upgraded into a badass magical girl in case of horrible calamity.

Most of your other stuff I largely agree on, having read most of it.

Remix Heart was corny as fuck, and obviously just a quick tie in manga with lots of awkward "GIRLS DO THIS" stuff I think was written by people who haven't seen girls in a decade.

But otherwise I did like it a lot.

I'm pretty sure that the author (Deko Akao) and the illustrator (Sumeragi) of Remix Heart know a thing or two about girls, seeing how they're both women. As for the "girls do this", it only happens in the first 5-6 chapters until the protagonist gets used to living among girls and then she stops it.

By the way, the series is getting a sequel that starts next month called Blazblue Variable Heart.
>>
>>6833603
Awesome. I did enjoy it and I hope to see Mai get with Tora.

I mostly meant the way it definitely seemed pandered to the main audience of BlazBlue. That or I just don't understand Japanese teenage girls at all. It just seemed really cheesy.

But maybe it just IS cheesy and I attribute it to the wrong thing. Or the women were writing to the expected market of people who play BlazBlue and like girls with big jugs in small outfits
>>
>>6833644
I think that Remix Heart was aimed at the same target audience as the games. The writer is one of the people works on the games.

But I think Remix Heart did a pretty good job portraying the girls as a group of friends who enjoy spending time together. A lot of series of this sort have the female characters that are linked only by their common lust for the protagonist. And I liked that it had the protagonist living like a normal girl; I don't like it much when a genderbent MC tries to live as a boy as it kind of defeats the point.

I did like that they were super friends, and I liked that Mai more or less was happy as a girl.

I do like SOME adjustment/rejection, but I like that Mai didn't see it as being the end of her life.
>>
>>6833074
kek
>>
>>6834209
Mai did have to adjust to living as a girl. She had to get used to picking and wearing women's clothes, at more touchy interactions with her friends such as hugging, at being naked around her female classmates, etc. And her friends did find her behavior odd and commented that she was rather boyish at first, so she she wasn't able to pull it off immediately. But I did like that Mai was actually competent at it without being perfect. In Boku Girl for example the protagonist acted like a complete idiot in that situation and couldn't even figure out how women use the toilet, which was something I disliked.

And Mai did initially have feelings of rejection since she wanted to reverse her change. Those intensified after she realized that she had fallen in love with a guy and that it wasn't just her body that had been affected, but her mind as well. She suffered an identity crisis as she started worrying that her original self was disappearing and being replaced by something new. In the end she accepted her new self, but it didn't happen automatically. I agree with you that there has to be some inner conflict. In Kashimashi for example Hazuki immediately accepted that she was a girl and had no problems adjusting, which made it feel no different than if she had been a girl from the beginning.

I should have phrased it more like "more extreme". She showed some discomfort but I like a bit more.

But it's more personal preference. I enjoyed Remix Heart, it was light and funny. Had some decent moments of introspection too.

Mizuki in Boku Girl being so clueless was played for laughs.

Kashimashi barely counts as a TG manga. As I recall we never even see his face before, we have no comparison for it. It's a yuri romance manga, and a boring one to boot
>>
>>6834249
Fair enough. As for Mizuk, she was too dense, passive and indecisive for my tastes so I didn't like her as a character. And I think having a character be that much of an idiot is going the easy route to generate laughs. The manga disappointed me as well because it kept dragging on and desperately maintaining the status quo by a constant stream of filler.

I agree on Kahimashi; it barely felt as a genderbender manga and I can't say I liked it in general. Suspending one's suspension of disbelief with the setup they had, where a bunch of aliens moved into a house after announcing themselves to the world and nobody ever tries to contact or interfere with them, was difficult. Also the way they resolved the love triangle in the end was quite forced and disappointing.

I just hope Boku Girl doesn't return to status quo for its ending. It would kill me since I've largely enjoyed the slow transition to femininity Mizuki has undergone. The story has its issues, but I've liked how much of it has progressed in its pacing.

Kashimashi was just plain old boring. I've read a lot of boring shit, and this one kept me from finishing.

Kampfer was boring too.
>>
>>6834314
Boku Girl has ended. You can probably guess what the conclusion was.

Kampfer and Ore Twintail were both very bad. They're standard harems with an ultra-dense MC surrounded by pretty girls who throw themselves to him but he fails to notice. The genderbending in both cases is simply a gimmick in order to provide extra fanservice and doesn't seriously affect the protagonist.

So it ended like shit then.

Damn. That's got me salty. They spent a LOT of time transitioning the character so I imagine she just goes "back to normal" like nothing happens because that's what this shit is like.

Idol Pretender had effectively a non-ending in how little closure it offered, but at least it didn't pretend the MC was unaffected by everything.

Ore Twintail sort of interested me because of the MC being interested in being the little girl, but it seemed exactly as you said.
>>
>>6826205
Same here, I mean the dude looks like a trap already and it's a shame he didn't get bigger boobs, he's almost flat-chested which makes this whole gender bender even more meh to me. atleast.
>>
>>6834376
Actually Boku Girl ended with Mizuki staying as a girl and hooking up with Takeru. Pretty much the same ending as Idol Pretender, though the latter had a pretty rushed ending.

As for the Ore Twintail MC, he never cared about being a girl; he simply liked twintails. And he spent less time as a girl than even Natsuru.

I think Boku Girl was a victim of its own success. It was reasonably popular and as a result it kept going even though the author had nothing substantial to write about. This is a manga that would have benefited from being around a third as long as it ended up being.

I believe Unbalance School Life is the only gender bender manga running right now? It's amusing enough for what its worth. Different take on the feminization aspect; it's the non-gender bent guy who's being eroded. At least Variable Heart's coming out soon.

There's a couple of gender bender manga that have yet to be fully scanlated, Mao Marimo and Haikyo Circle, that seemed promising, in terms of being a serious gender bender work.

One day, I'll get up off my ass and order them off Japanese Amazon.

There's a couple short comedy gender benders that are pretty shallow, but might be amusing; Otome no Iroha, which is the rare focus on FtM, and Seijou Kouchakan no Jijou. This is the product of scouring some site's gender bender category, through countless manga about crossdressing. I hate how annoying that makes looking for out and out gender bending is.

I feel like I've reached the bottom of the barrel for gender bender manga. I'm still waiting for Tiger Dragon Brothers to get serialized, which may well never happen. Now it's just relying on the occasional hentai to come out.

Oh and there's also Ame Nochi Hare, which I haven't read. Shishunki Bitter Change also, but that's technically body swap.

I've read or touched most of all those you listed except two I think.

Every so often I use Batoto and skim the last few dozen "gender bender" manga but it's like if someone even toes the line of gender ambiguity they toss the tag in. So lots of crossdressing, traps, reverse traps, etc. Makes it annoying to find one specific genre.
>>
>>6834727
>>6834727
Yeah, I mean I get that crossdressing and androgyny is technically gender bending in a broad sense, but it'd be nice if it they could be tagged a bit more specifically.

I'm sure crossdressing fans don't want to read transformation stuff either.
>>
>>6834654
I think that Back Street Girls, which is about 3 failed yakuza members who are forced to undergo sex change operations and then become idols, is still going on. Though it isn't getting translated and also I prefer stories where the character actually transforms into a girl.

I agree that Otome Otome no Iroha and Seijou Kouchakan no Jijou were pretty shallow. I found the former's story that was about punishing the characters for not adhering to their gender roles kind of dumb, while I thought that the latter's setup was uninteresting.

Tiger Dragon Brothers looked like a simplistic battle shonen with gender bender thrown in, so if it ever got made into a manga I think it would take a shallow approach to the transformation similar to say Ranma instead of doing anything interesting with it.

Ame Nochi Hare is good. Mao Marimo and Haikyo Circle both seemed pretty promising, though I found Shishunki Bitter Change to be pretty boring. Very little happens and the characters don't seem to change even though thanks to timeskips they spend years in each others' bodies.

I'm really looking forward to Variable Heart, though since it takes place a few years after Mai transformed and decided to live as a woman, it will presumably not follow the standard genderbender story formula and it is likely to have Mai behaving like a normal girl. Not that this is a bad thing, since we already saw Mai adjusting in Remix Heart and there's no need for them to retread that.
>>
>>6834765
I've found some good, weird shit under the gender bender tag I wouldn't have otherwise.

But they need like subcategories. Gender Bender - Transformation. Gender Bender - Clothes. Gender Bender - Ambiguous/Androgynous

Not like super detailed, but you can search the main category or a sub category. Most places would benefit from some finer tooling of the searches desu

I want to create a manga or something to where the main character is a guy who gets turned into a shrine maiden, or something like that. but they start mentally shifting into a girl as well, where they lose themselves to their new personality. Ranma was great. But make it to where kind of like Natsuru would turn at inconvenient times. turning into a girl because of like a virus or genetic mutation. The change could have potential incomplete changes. Maybe the person maintains their voice, or they have tiny tits, like a guy or masculine features, or they become a futanari or cuntboi. Both mtf and ftm gender bend. I love tg caps And tf. I got into this stuff as a kid with ranma, naruto, kampfer, a flash animation, with link turning into a big titted girl called Linket. She squeezes her new boobies and they make a squeaky toy sound. And giggles and says bewbs :3 it was funny. Then the fact I wanted to be a girl as a kid too, was that way literally from 7 or 8 years old. or earlier. Watching it kind of let me put myself in the protagonist shoes.

Technically any of the videogame nekama qualify. SAO's kirito, Log Horizon's Akatsuki, "there are no girls who play video games" anime.

Milk cure, trans-trans and Neverland de Tsukamaete, are good examples of nekama in manga.

I had found this manga a lot ago and I got very turned on as I kept reading it
Don't know at what point it is right now but things were getting pretty sexual at a certain point
>>
>>6837632
I liked that in Tsukiyo no Fromage the MC actually lived as a girl surrounded by other girls. I prefer that to the "genderbent MC lives with male best friend until they become lovers" setup.

I too didn't like Boku Girl. I agree that the protagonist was way too dumb. Also the manga dragged on and there was no story progression for ages. Both it and Sekainohate de Aimashou should have been shorter.

Idol Pretender was genderbender. It was badly paced and the male lead was rather badly handled, but I thought it was decent.

Personally I'm not interested in series where a character pretends they are the opposite sex online. That's just a role they play after all; I prefer it when they fully turn into the opposite sex and then have to adapt to living the part.

By the way, what did you think of Remix Heart?
>>
>>6828716
It is weird because I wanted to be a girl before I even knew what sex was about or that trans people existed. I just thought it was my weird thing.
I even had dreams at 8 years old and leaving my life and live like a girl.
I am just to scared to tell this to anyone.
>>
>>6837746

Tsuki no fromage had the worst non-ending. Author literally fi ished promising a continuation and yet...

Remix heart was derivative from a fighting game, I avoid such derivatives.

Well the manga I listed where they are okama generally has them stuck in those worlds (potentially fprever). When you achieve the level of virtual reality in those games like Farafella, it's more real than role play. But yeah, I can't get into skinsuits because you always think they 're not really girls and can take it off.

Ore to hero to mahou shoujo is another genderbent one in canon, like boku no hero academia. It is less stale than joshishougakusei hajimemashita.

Remix Heart is a prequel and can be read and understood on its own. I think it's worth reading; it's pretty short and I liked it more that many other titles. The MC becomes a girl permanently, together with other girls gradually adapting to it and eventually becomes a girl in both mind and body and falls in love with a male student.

Ore to Hero to Mahou Shoujo was OK, but it is a comedy series where the MC transforms to fight rather than going any further.

A girl can make herself pretty by wearing interesting clothes in a wide variety. That's basically impossible for men.

Why not try to separate the hentai from the non-ero manga? Generally doujins being ero? The erotic content is practically limitless, and infinitely expanding like the cosmos.

Yeah that's annoying on manga updates too. I find it hard to keep up with the latest non-h series. The ero ones are easier since they get posted on ero galleries with accurate tagging.

The scripts for the translations already exist, it's just that the person in charge of putting adding the text to the RAWs has been lagging behind.

I would post the ending in spoiler tags but they don't work here.

It's still worth a ride as the fact of him ending up as a woman or staying a dude is less relavant in that case (as the show is mostly a gag manga, not a romance).

Pic of the cover may or may not be misleading.

One Easter Egg the author hid in th manga: the genderbender's mother is herself strongly hinted to be a character from an earlier genderbender comic he made (back when he wasn't professionally publishing)

Yeah I know, it was about twintails. (Spoilers if you care)

I'm just disappointed that they never did anything with the fact that Souji's transformation(s) is exactly what the villain wanted. In fact, he was completely unaware that Souji was a guy, or the effects his curse had on him.

At the end in the dream sequence, they depicted Souji's male form growing twintails, just as he accepted himself as a man that loved twintails. But rather than show that to the villain, he gets lol 2sword and it just ends on "twintails rule!!!"

This early scene (same subs) pretty accurately depicts the build up. http://youtu.be/PyPgH5XJlqI

>>6853556
The series was a stupid harem/tokusatsu fusion with no budget and a twintail obsession. It had a dense harem MC who can't realize that all the beautiful women surrounding him are desperate for his dick even when they literally try to rape him. The only inner conflict the MC is allowed is posing the question "do I love twintails enough" with the answer being inevitably "yes". And the transformation is merely a gimmick that's there to provide more fanservice rather than leading to something more. This series somehow managed to be worse than Kampfer.

Ranma 1/2 is probably the deepest comedy series Takahashi made. Inu Yasha was downhill. But, Ranma is on two levels only one of which is accessible to moat people.

The series is actually a study in machismo and hinor. At first glance the characters are quirky to fulfill Takahashi's comedy. What makes it eerie is when one realizes the characters act consistently and their comedic quirks are the result of deep-seated psychological scars. Another eerie point is that there is a razor-thin edge between death that the main characters laugh off. The series gets midly darker as it progresses as a result of the characters psychological issues. I think Takahashi had to leave it without everyth in ng being resolved because it's hard to imagine everyone getting out alive.

The curses are all indicative of the characters inner selves. Genma is a lazy punk - panda. Ryouga would (and tries to) bang any girl that offers - pig. Mousse's unwavering fidelity to Shampoo is symbolized in the duck, Shampoo us a cat cause she's a slut. Ranma is a girl because what Ranma really wants is to be loved and have luxuries. You can see it when he abuses his female form and in how he strings along all the girls to avoid causing rejection or pain.

But, most people don't read that deep and assume the characters are quirky for comedy and not that Takahashi is doing a character study on all of them. If you watch her other work you know she usnt that shallow.
>>
>>6862364
You're overanalyzing like crazy. Ranma is a gag manga and all the characters are extremely simplistic. They don't operate like actual human beings.
>>
>>6862594
I think you underestimate the shallowness of actual human beings.
>>
>>6862618
Ranma characters are caricatures. They have a couple of traits that define them and that's it. Plus, they all at best behave like psychopaths rather than something resembling a normal human being.
>>
>>6862364
No offense intended but if you go looking for deeper meaning you'll find it. It's a good gag manga, no doubt, and the characters are well formed. Curses aren't just given willy-nilly like being thrown at a dart board.

But they also aren't deep psychological studies. A character being well formed does not mean anything more.

Sometimes the duck is just a duck.
>>
>>6862364
Maison Ikkoku was way deeper than Ranma. Especially the fact that Kyoko renamed her dog after her dead husband. The whole series indicates the characters were psychologically damaged in one way or the other, especially Kyoko and Kozue

>>
>>6862624
>Ranma characters are caricatures. They have a couple of traits that define them and that's it.

Not at all. The characters have complex motivations and they're explored through the stories. There are one-off gag villians but the characters that stay through multiple volumes are developed.

>Plus, they all at best behave like psychopaths rather than something resembling a normal human being.

This is true. The characters of Ranma have very abnormal psychology. However, many of them walk the line of life and death regularly (the life of a martial artist is fraught with peril) and their craziness is the result of that.

Ryouga, for instance, suffers from a gag that makes him lack a sense of direction. While funny, it's deeply troubling to him. He is so unable to have a lasting relationship because of this that he fixates on the only classmate to show him kindness and engages in a very serious, dangerous rivalry because honor and martial arts leaves him no other way to interact with Ranma. He obsesses with Akane for the same reason as Ranma - Akane's the first girl to ever be nice to him. Yet, for all his professed love of Akane he attempts to bone Ranma everytime Ranma puts on a disguise to trick him. Eventually, he leaves with Akari simply because she's willing to initiate the relationship and Akane wasn't. Ryouga drops the girl he pined for over 2/3rds of the series because some other girl would put out. That's why he's a pig but it also depicts some serious abandonment issues.

Thus, Takahashi takes her gag defect (no sense of direction) and builds a character that would naturally result. It's fun to watch and it is that deep if you actually read the comic and pay attention to what Ryouga does.

That's just one example. I'm not saying better character studies haven't been done but I don't think anyone ever managed to make it as funny and as intense at the same time. It's a martial arts comedy that, if you read between the lines, is really a tragedy.
>>
>>6863177
What complex motivations are those? Ranma's motivation is to beat everyone in the "martial art" of the week.

Plenty of people have fought in long wars and they aren't as deranged as Ranma characters. Their behavior has nothing to do with how humans act. Even non-combatants are nuts, such as Ranma's mother who keeps trying to decapitate her son because she thinks he isn't manly enough.

By the way, since when did Ryoga have honor? He's a stalker who disguises himself and spends time with the girl he obsesses over, even bathing and sleeping with her. In one arc he tries to use a magic item to make Akane fall in love with him. After he accidentally uses it on Ranma he decides to murder a non-resisting Ranma, thinking that Akane will fall in love with him once he informs her that he has murdered him.

You're taking a gag manga with shallow caricatures and try to imagine it some sort of deep character study. This is a gag manga aimed at elementary schoolers, it's not Dostoevsky.
>>
>>6863209
>What complex motivations are those? Ranma's motivation is to beat everyone in the "martial art" of the week.

Ranma's motivation is to be loved. Martial arts was the first thing that got him friends and acceptance (Furinkan, etc.) His neediness is why he actively works to string along all the ladies and what's interesting is that actual sexuality makes him uncomfortable - he just wants the ladies after him, not to actually get anything from them other than a stroked ego.

>Plenty of people have fought in long wars and they aren't as deranged as Ranma characters.

True, and others are far more deranged. This isn't really a point.

>Their behavior has nothing to do with how humans act.

I disagree but you haven't really given support for your point.

>Even non-combatants are nuts, such as Ranma's mother who keeps trying to decapitate her son because she thinks he isn't manly enough.

Nodoka is interesting and complicated but, yes, she is nuts. Would most fanatically devoted wives with lying husbands that abandon them handle it well?

>By the way, since when did Ryoga have honor?
Takahashi's point (which I don't agree with, but her point nonetheless) is that male honor doesn't exist - it's just a pretense. Hence, Ryouga follows it when it is socially visible and ignores it when he won't get caught - like all the characters, albeit in different ways.

>ou're taking a gag manga with shallow caricatures and try to imagine it some sort of deep character study. This is a gag manga aimed at elementary schoolers, it's not Dostoevsky.

Dostoevsky it is not, I agree. However, it is far deeper than most of the stuff put out today and exceedingly deep for it's genre. Why do you hate on it so much?

You sound like my father when he tried to convince me the Peanuts gag comic had depth, when I told him I thought it was stupid. He said every character was a character study too. Or I could put it like this: you sound like a fanboy who wants to pretend a mediocre series like theology. Ranma 1/2 ran for years, and I'm not impressed that the author managed to create some interesting personalities and interactions over a long period. Fukigen Cinderella was shorter and much more interesting psychologically speaking though.

Btw I'm not dissing on the classics without reading them. My first manga collection was Ranma 1/2, but in hindsight those were the dark ages of ignorance. I can't get into shounen, gag manga, or crude 80's art now.

You can interpret whatever you want from it, just don't tell us that it's the intention or some deeper aspect that is meant to be from the author.

Hell I recall hearing a quote about Takahashi being asked if Ranma could get pregnant, with her responding she doesn't think about it and neither should we.

If this were a work she intended on some level to be serious, that's a major thing to consider and examine.

But like I said, if you want to interpret it, do it however you please. If you glean some insight into the universe, enjoy yourself. But please quit preaching that we're idiots for missing things never intended to be there. No, art doesn't have to intend something for it to provide commentary. Some good stuff is accidental. But Ranma was never intended, and in my read of it barely more than the deep end of the public pool.

Maybe up to your neck if you try, but not really over your head.

>>
>>6864362
>Where do you get that Ranma wants to be loved? He's simply incredibly proud and can't stand it unless he's #1 at everything.

The reversal jewel arc explains a lot of it. His need for the girls to love him. Remember that, at the beginning, the only thing Ranma cares about is martial arts - he had no need to be #1 at everything - just that one thing. He tells his dad he has no time for a fiancee.

As the series progresses Ranma actually develops a relationship with Akane (a disfunctional one) based on him trying to relate to her in the same way he relates to his dad (because that's the only relationship he's had) which consists of hurling insults. Of course, Akane gets pissed because she doesn't realize that's the only way Ranma knows how to have a real relationship. The reason Ranma doesn't hurl insults at the other girls is because he doesn't have a real relationship with Shampoo and Ukyo; whatever repoire he manages with Ukyo is based on their childhood friendship and him treating her like a schoolmate.

>And the "romance" in Ranma are what you'd expect from kindergarteners.

Some characters are kindergarten level inept because of hyper-focus on martial arts (Ranma, Akane, Ryouga, Ukyo) others have foreign ideas of relationships (Shampoo, Mousse) and still others are hung-up on what the media sells you is love to an obsessive degree (Kuno, Kodachi)

>We are never given any sign that Ranma's mother was driven mad by her bum husband.
Nodoka being pushed into accepting the seppukuk pact? Her wandering the streets looking for her husband? Her excusing her husband's conduct when he's a theiving good-for-nothing?
>>
>>6864408
Look, some people write fluff, but if you read Takahashi's earlier works, it's clear that she is capable of and prefers to write deeper. To say she just stopped understanding her characters is ridiculous. To say she let her depth take a back seat to gags - sure. That's why the depth in Ranma takes a few readings to notice. I also believe she ended the series where she did because it will end up with either the Amazons or Tendos dead by the end of it. Hardly an acceptable conclusion for an 80s manga. Today she might've been allowed to draw the bloodbath that would fully conclude the piece... but I don't think she wanted to. I think her characters wrote her into a corner as things kept progressing more and more violently.

I second this request. I don't read much Fictionmania because they ban loli, and stories where kids have sex. It's the "think of the children, the imaginary children" fallacy. You will never read a good AR story on Fictionmania with minors in sexual situations or rape, unless it slips through the moderation.

Shadow has a controversial Ranma fansite, I think it's a paysite that comissions meh Western Ranma comics and puts them behind a paywall, while shamelessly pirating asian ones.

Here's my experience lately:

1. Fictionmania is now largely a site with sissification/crossdressing/humiliation stories with VERY LITTLE in the way of legitimate "guy turns into grill" stories. That's been the trend there for years. Granted not all of the stories are bad, but most of them aren't pure TG.

2. TG Storytime has more pure TG stuff.

3. Most stuff on both sites is total dogshit. Welcome to internet erotic fiction.

4. Can't help you in the realm of futa/shemale/loli stuff. There are a few stories here and there where the protag gets turned into a prepubescent girl but I've never seen one that has a sex scene... that kind of stuff does nothing for me so I don't actively seek it out.
