Scythes are sharp I'll give you that. However you can still apply pressure to skin with them without drawing blood. Scythes and most other blades work the best when you're cutting with them. The reason why scythes are so dangerous is that they're designed so that you can effectively cut large areas at once. That means the area where careless people get their shit just fucked up is large.
And as long as you're applying the pressure in any other than straight 90° you can use suprising amounts of force and not draw blood no matter how sharp the blade is. That is as long as you just apply pressure and don't cut at all. With a regular scythe that's easy to do. With a scythe like in the OP not so easy but doable as long as they're holding the scythe around their waist.
Yes I've actually used scythes to do what they were designed to do. I've sharpened scythes. I've never seen anyone get hurt by a scythe. They're actually really safe to the user and only a retard or a kid would walk into the working zone of a scythe. And neither should be present when using one.

I live in a semi rural area and there are farmers in the family. So occasionally I get to do some farming related stuff. I wouldn't have tried it if I didn't have bunch of old guys to teach me how to use it. It's pretty fun as long as you don't have to do entire fields with it.
Seeing guys in their 70s and 80s lose 50 years when they remember their youth and how they used to do harvests with the same scythe they're teaching me to use was pretty great. And I've never seen anyone look me with such approval and respect than when it all clicked for me and I figured out how to use it.
