Well, instead of looking for tropes straight away, there's plenty good stories and material online about real people exhibiting traits fitting a yandere (just look around for such stories about obsessive partners, ex'es, stalkers). You may also want to read about a bit for the reasons why some yandere turn that way - often (but not always) it's combination of particular mental or emotional conditions, insecurities or very atypical raising/outlook taken to the extreme.
Avoid making her a stereotype, especially anime-ish one. She can and should even exhibit certain traits, behaviors you see in works of fiction, but they all can be mitigated - majority of people violent and jealous enough to dangerous to their loved ones or their surrounding is often locked up or at least with some mental state adnotation in their files.
