Its hard to say. For me personally, a few of my favourite characters (like Iris from Ruby Gloom, Leela from Futurama, and Nurse Hitomi, of course) are all cyclopses.
I can't give an exact reason but, assuming we go by Nurse Hitomi's explanation, I think a cyclops can be endearing, due to the largeness of the eye.
