Yeah, I still can't compare the two. Was TCW really mediocre? I thought it was fine apart from the tone from the beginning. But it doesn't look like the tone in Rebels has changed at all when you look at them fighting the Empire. It's just a constant cat and mouse chase. I'm willing to bet they're going to kill off Thrawn at the end just like every other antagonist for the last two seasons.
Trailer was pretty good. I hope they cut down on the cliche episodes a bit this season. I am a little sad that vader won't get to finish what he started.

Well, in defense of it's design, it was originally not meant to be a lightsaber, but a sword with an actual solid blade. But Lucas was adamant on there being no MAN MADE substances (I'm not talking about Magnaguard Staves, Zygerrian wipes, ray shields or a Zillo Beast hide) that can stand against or repel a Lightsaber. They literally just changed how the blade looked and turned it into the Darksaber. Without that, if it had gone down how they originally intended, It would've been some Mandalorian sword. Hence why the Darksaber has alot of the Mandalorian cubism still in it's design. They just made a quick alteration instead of completely making a new model from scratch.

I keep reading that Donnie Yen's character uses the Force to see. Is that true? I know he's no Jedi, but then you didn't need to be a Jedi to be Force Sensitive. We've seen non-Jedi with varying degrees of power. Sith, obviously, but Night Sisters like Talzin and Old Daka seem to rival the abilities of the other two orders. Dagoyan Masters use visions and are immune to mind tricks but don't use any of the other abilities. They use it passively, so no push or pull or any of that quasi-physical stuff. Maz is Force Sensitive but certainly no Jedi. Not sure if she still has her powers since the scene was cut, but almost certainly. Hard to imagine they got so far as filming it and then decided she didn't have any mojo.

It never minded the Dark Side because the Dark Side is natural, as much a part of itself as the Light Side. What it hated was Sith dickbags fucking with the balance. That's because the SITH are anti-Light Side or really any side not their own. They'll even fuck over rival Dark Siders and even their own kind. They're intrinsically disruptive, harmful to the fate of the galaxy. That's why the Force decided to create Anakin to balance the Force.

The Dark Side can make you kind of stupid, and Ezra's age doesn't help. Maul can easily work it to fooling Ezra if he can play to the fact that Kanan thinks Ezra is using forbidden powers. He can tell Ezra that he was doing it for the kids own good because Kanan will never understand, never accept, and only hold him back - but with Maul as his Master he can truly become strong as he wishes, strong enough to defeat all of his enemies.

They took out the features that were extra layers on the costumes. Kanan lost his arm armor while Ezra doesn't have his jacket look anymore.
What they're wearing looks skintight and thin, compared to TCW where the characters' outfits looked like they were layered and had several features to them like pouches on belts and even sleeves occasionally.
Personally though, I think the animation looks vastly improved when it comes to texture and lighting

Whitaker's change could be account for by age, though- Whitaker is stockier than young Saw (granted, Whitaker's always been a big guy so we don't have a "young fit Whitaker" to compare to). His features aren't identical but they're close enough.
With Thrawn, his features are too different from Del Toro. And the situation here is different because you're casting Forest Whitaker in the role of a character that was designed in a cartoon years ago- with Thrawn, if he Del Toro was intended for the role, they could design Thrawn to actually look like Del Toro since Rebels and Episode 8 were being produced alongside each other.

He's given pointers for a lot of projects. For major projects he'd usually show up to meetings to give input, tell them what stuff to steer away from, etc. He's even said he's a fan of certain things (Thrawn trilogy, SOTE and Dark Empire, for example).
But that's different from him saying he considered the EU canon, which he's said several times the he never did. Even Dark Empire, something he liked so much that he gave it away to employees as a gift, was something he called out as not being canon in his eyes.
