In honor of how progressive /co/'s favorite writer is, I thought I'd share something I picked up at the LCS and scanned just for you.
It's his first endeavor as a creative genius and shows what potential he had.
Enjoy.
>>84520561
Please forgive the shit quality of the scans, I hope they don't subtract too much from what this book has to give.
>>84520561
what year was this made?
Does it have his famous Bendis speech, and is it actually good?
>>84520630
>what year was this made?
1992.
>is it actually good
I think you'll be able to answer that for yourself soon enough.
Decompression before decompression was a thing!
>>84520561
I have never heard of this and I am always up for storytiming something obscure.
Go on, OP. I'm reading.
>>84520661
>It's a terrible curse
>It is?
God fucking dammit, Bendis.
See his progressive stance on women in action!
>>84520561
What the hell is a Todd boy?
What if that were actually someone's SSN
>>84520727
Back in the day there was a manga (or was it an anime?) called "Mai the Psychic Girl." I hope that explains everything.
> tall, handsome, Gentile looking artist
well, at least you can't accuse Bendis of putting in a self insert here
It's so dense; every single frame has so many things going on.
>>84520680
>I am always up for storytiming something obscure.
Be careful what you wish for.
>>84520769
Because of the font used on the cover, I thought the title was "Spunky the Psychic Todd Boy."
>>84520821
Well whatever you do, don't dead open inside.
Really progressive, empowered women.
benis = penis
>>84520661
>>84520691
Ha ha, oh wow
Even here, he's pioneering the fine art of dinner table conversation.
Such a lovely specimen of African American femininity, certainly not a caricature.
Bendis talked about this before, he said Fantagraphics said it wouldn't sell so they tried to get him to turn it into a Eros book instead
>>84520920
And now you know the truth.
>>84520909
She black features in a world of caricatures because she is a black woman. Chill.
That being said holy shit, Bendis Speak has been a plague since day one. Why do people like this? No one talks like this.
Dinner table conversation, you can't get enough of it.
>>84520935
The self-referential "humor" just really comes across as being overly self-conscious
>>84520937
Relax, I keed.
>>84520954
>self-referential "humor"
If I'd tried to make a drinking game of it most of you would be dead by now.
Anyhoo, more empowered women!
> and as blank as a FART!
>>84520977
>It's not fair
>Is it fair?
Mother
fucking
Bendis
>>84520946
>Donald Trump Gets Laid Again
Best part of the comic.
>>84521025
>Best part of the comic.
The best part of the comic isthe staples.
>>84520957
>>84520977
>that page long build up to "reveal" this ugly caricature with a triangular body
Get ready for some thigh slapping comedy, kids
>>84520800
>That woman on the right's fucking eyeballs
> 1989
Yes, this probably took him 3 years to find someone willing to print it.
AND MORE DINNER TABLE CONVERSATION!
>>84521071
oh hohohohohohohoho, ahahahahahahahahaa o i am laffin
pic is me, it is me laffin.
okay, well, it's only for one pa–
god damn it bendis
and then I burned all my Shrek DVDs
>>84521120
You didn't pay too much for this comic, did you, OP? I really hope you didn't.
>>84521103
>she turned my journal into a term paper because she thought the computer was a microwave
What? How did any of the preceding pages make that clear? We're not even shown the girl looking at or being near a computer. It looks like he turned in his journal instead of his paper himself.
>>84520863
>>84520877
>There was once a period where women shaving just one side of their head was considered outlandish and unfashionable
Skrillex was a mistake
>>84521161
>You didn't pay too much for this comic, did you, OP?
Yes, but not in money.
>>84520891
Are those the Blues Brothers on the left?
Observe Brian Michael Bendis shit talking his future source of income.
>>84521166
Fashion repeats itself anon
Amazingly what passes for sarcastic intent on literary themes here isn't really that far from what Bendis himself now uses unironically.
>>84521074
> Bendis now has to pander to exactly this guy to earn a living
Justice is subtle sometimes.
>>84521247
> including five Eisner Awards for both his creator-owned work and his work on various Marvel Comics books.
okay, I may have meant JUSTice.
BUT THAT'S NOT ALL FOLKS
>>84521058
>Low test betas actually believe this
> find all of these people and make them pay
and ~fin~
So /co/, was it everything you dreamed of? Could you see his genius slowly unfurling Would you add it to your Storytime of Pain folder or just say "oy"?
I nearly forgot:

>>84521247
Redpill me on Conway Spidey cause it looks like Bendy has a prob with it
>>84521103
>characters sitting around eating talking about life
>>84521369
I was wondering if anyone would notice that. Most of those typewriter asides pasted in the margins are references to things commonly done in classic Spider-Man comic books. Gerry Conway wasn't the only one, Bendis is just pointing the finger at him.
20 years later we're looking at the things Bendis does. It's like poetry.
>>84521305
>>84521341
>Bendis's first book was so un-notable it became a gimmick for itself
LOL
>>84521241
In case you needed this spelled out for you, the woman is wearing large round eyeglasses.
>>84521341
OP I'm not sure whether I should thank you or hate you.
Someone needs to tweet every page to bendis.
>>84521442
It's funnier if she's bug-eyed
>>84520561
you just scanned it? I'd congratulate you if I wasn't choking on bendis speak right now
Not gonna lie, it's entertaining
>>84520696
> I should have changed my pad
> I really should have changed my pad!!!!
> I think I'll have my breasts removed!
A man for all seasons.
>>84520696
Truly a feminist for our times.
>>84521535
>you just scanned it?
I was rifling through one of my longboxes and dimly remembered this pile of shit. Imagine my reaction when I read the name across the top.
I scanned it about a year or 2 ago, waiting for the best moment to share.
How long before it gets a Netflix Original Series?
This was on the same level as Girls
>>84520611
>>84520621
The repetition of uncharacteristically here is incredible and immediately makes you downgrade the writing.
>>84520769
>roommate painting Bongo
Don't you remind me of funnier comics, Brian.
>>84521589
Never, please dear god.
I can't say I enjoyed it, but thanks all the same.
>>84521614
god bless you for not asking why Bart has an overbite
>>84520829
Sick reference anon. Are you Bendis?
>>84521097
>Naval lint
>>84520937
No one talks like this? Like this?
>>84521792
I talk like that sometimes.Only when I'm drunk
>>84521341
All I could think was two things:
1. Gif related;
2. How did this man somehow manage to get such a prominent position at Marvel?
>>84520661
>before i go bald
now that he mentions it, are there any pics of him with hair? I've never seen one of those, and refuse to believe he looked like that drawing.
>>84521847
>>84521841
Ultimate Spiderman and his Daredevil were good, and his X-Men brought in revenue in a time of crisis. The rest is nepotism. He also continues to sell.
>>84521884
>>84521884
I refuse to believe that's him
Proof that Bendis is a hack. There's some genuine potential here, I mean it is a first published work. Then the first chance in his career he got to just produce cookie cutter comics for steady pay he takes and stops drawing.
There is not shame in supporting a family, I get that a ton of people at The Big 2 produce work that is as marketable as possible because they've got kids. It's just depressing to be able to see a time when they had aspirations beyond a steady paycheck
My eyes hurt.
>>84522301
My life hurts reading this.
>Sentence fragments. Everywhere.
>constant lampshading, tearing down comics and comic readers
>nothing fucking happens
Classic Bendis
>>84520877
w-why did he do that?
>>84520946
why doesnt benis just write sitcoms
>>84523046
>>84523141
> why
>>84523141
because no one in tv will hire him, he's tried
>>84521097
this is truly chris-chan levels of strange
>>84521184
idk one shot the other so...???
>>84523361
it is a mystery
>>84520909
> siskel and ebert for no reason
>>84521184
>Are those the Blues Brothers on the left?
No, just gangsters.
>>84521505
>Someone needs to tweet every page to bendis.
I'd rather tweet them to every television executive who thinks Jessica Jones means he's worth investing in.
