Anyway, it was cool. They took a movie with its memorable characters and its versatile setting and fleshed it out quite well over the run of several dozen episodes. Didn't go quite as far into lore and continuity as Gargoyles did, but a good job nonetheless.

That was the charm. Intellectually he was far superior to Aladdin. He had more resources, more ingenuity, and actually was a massive threat. The issue though, like most people that brilliant, was his obsessive nature. I loved how Aladdin would use that to win.

I recall it being much better than it had any right to be. While it didn't have the tight continuity of Gargoyles (what with the loose nature of mythological figures and similar appearing throughout it), it was still incredibly fun and expanded the movies to a scope nobody could have foreseen. Given the way the third film ended, I could see Disney bringing Aladdin back in some way. Either through his father going on adventures with Iago, or featuring Aladdin and Jasmine's son.

Buzz Lightyear had no right to be that funny or interesting. Yet it was one of Disney's best works. Those rules are basically bullshit:
1) Murder: he can make someone incredibly strong or powerful allowing them to do as much murder as they want. Also he didn't specify that he can't hurt or reduce a person to a point where he's as good as dead.
2) Love: he can basically create the perfect circumstances for a woman to fall in love, so it's almost the same thing. He can even tell the person what her perfect man is like or make the wisher perfectly attractive in her eyes. Fuck, he could probably grant the gift of hypnosis to the wisher.
3) Reviving the dead: this on makes some amount of sense, but he can create sentient things out of thin air or at least completely transform living beings: he might as well just create a perfect copy and reconstruct the character by utilizing memories of the living regarding this person. Also this wasn't specified, but conceivably he could go back in time and just prevent them from dying.

1. The point is the genie can't murder. If I sell you a gun and you use it to kill someone, you're guilty of murder, not me. Genie's are literal slaves to your whims (in the Disney universe). They are just a tool. How you use them is up to you and the consequences and guilt are on you and nobody else.
2. The examples you gave are not love. Using hypnosis, money, etc. doesn't really get you love (same in real life). Perfect circumstances? Watch the movie 50 First Dates where Sandler recreates the perfect first meeting (that originally worked) and it pisses her off. This is completely believable. People are WAY too complicated and there is no such thing as "perfect circumstances".
3. I never saw an example in the cartoon that one of Genie's conjured people was a real person. They simply appear then disappear when not needed. I would argue the genie is so powerful, he can make them seem real, but it's like if you were a master puppeteer. The doll would seem very life-like.

1) A tool, exactly, that's how everyone treated Genie before Aladdin, he was the first to treat him as a friend and not a slave. That still makes no sense though. The Genie, being a tool, might as well kill someone. What's the difference between murder and creating perfect circumstances for death? The beings Genie conjures are real enough, I would assume he would conjure up a retinue if you wished to be a Prince (just like he did with Aladdin), even if they are just an extension of him on some level, who cares?
